Help understanding new syllabus

Hey guys, so if my understanding is correct we do the common module with one elective for the entire HSC year. The common module is Literary Worlds and our elective is Reimagined Worlds. So is this what we do for the entire year? Also, what does the elective involve? Does the exam vary for students doing different electives? How much of the content is the elective and how much is the common module?

Sorry if these questions are stupid.
Thanks so much for your time!

Hey, BakerDad12!

That's correct  :) You'll be doing Literary Worlds and your elective Reimagined Worlds. When it comes to how Ext 1 English is taught, you should be doing a fair split between Literary Worlds and Reimagined Worlds as your focus study. Literary Worlds is designed to prompt evaluation, creativity and reflection on how settings, places and "worlds" are constructed in texts. Reimagined Worlds specifically will look at the way texts "reimagine" our reality and explore representations of alternative possibilities, truths and unknowns. You'll be studying a different text every term under your elective which will take the whole year (3 texts over roughly 3 terms each and then revision and exam prep in Term 4).

Down the track when you get to exams, everyone will be Section I which is for the Common Module: Literary Worlds and then you'll do a question from your elective for Section II. Each section will be worth 25 marks. You can have a look at the sample paper here and the 2019 exam once that comes out soon on the NESA website.

And never apologise for asking questions! That's the best way to learn and get answers  :) Hope that clarifies that!

Hey, thanks for the great response! So does that mean we do not study any texts for literary worlds, instead the exam will have unseen texts for that module?

Precisely! Your teacher might give you an assortment of shorter texts to supplement your study, potentially for related text use too, but you won't have a prescribed text for Literary Worlds itself  :) It'll be purely unseen!
