Title: Antagonistic Functions

Don't know whether to put this in the Biology or Psych thread, but anyway...

What is the definition of antagonistic function?

I can quote examples, like the longitudinal muscles and circular muscles in the oesophagus - when one contracts, the other relaxes...
But for the brain, the left hemisphere controls the right side of the body, while the right hemisphere controls the left side of the body... is this considered an antagonistic function?

I don't think so. That's called "contralateral organisation".
