I lurk whirlpool for career advice and direction too :P hehe some pretty good advice on there! This is the main reason why I'm against the diploma in math, since an honours year seems more valuable in some aspects.
Thanks for you input! But still at square one haha finance/eco or finance/eng these were both my primary options in the latter half of last year, but still haven't decided! I'll have to sleep on it and go at it again tomorrow :P

Are any of you guys doing summer school? Just to get a subject out of the way and ease the work load further down the track? Think its a good idea? :)
Yeah I plan to do business finance during summer :) And maybe another unit depending on what major I decide on - would be best to do ESD2 if I choose eng stream. That's my main reasoning - get one unit out of the way now. It depends on what you have planned imo, if you've got a lot on then maybe take more time and relax during your holidays. But since I'm only working part time and the remaining time is free I figured I may as well! :)

Remember that class registration for summer classes is on this Monday, so make sure you have decided between ESD2 and BF before then otherwise you will have an absolute shit timetable.

Yeah I saw the other day! Hence my stress! >.> Ahh I've looked at the timetables for a few units too and some units look fairly hectic!

Just be aware that if you want to get into engineering that you need to do all of the pre-requisites. I don't know what they are, BUT I imagine that they WOULD be Engineering Systems Design and alike, in addition to subjects like Engineering Mathematics which would require probably both subjects from the mathematics AND undergrad-eng disciplines.

The problem?

I'm not sure you can do the ESD ones in a diploma of maths.

So maybe pick those / do them as breadth and use a diploma of maths to do your math subjects.

Just be aware too that you only get free subjects IF You FINISH the diploma. Make sure you finish it, or you'll pay a fair bit extra.

Where does one find the summer intensive subject list?

Make sure to select 'Summer Semester' in the 'Study Period' section.

Ta. I never knew that was a criterion of the Hanbook.

I don't know how to post links from the handbook.

Go to handbook.unimelb.edu.au
Click Advanced Search
Search for whatever options give you all subjects you are interested in, but for the term of study, click the drop down menu and hit "summer semester".

Wala.

Edit: Damn, Hancock beat me to it.

Just going off your username, but are you majoring in Mech Engineering?

EDIT: Wait, I just remembered you getting marks from your Arts degree. My bad  :P

Yeah, I study philosophy and politics.  ;D Mech is just a short name that generally seems to describe my interest in conceptual mechanisms of things.

Just a quick question - is there a date by which we need to have all our subjects chosen?

Are you a returning UoM student or just starting? If the former, you need to have your subjects in by the 14th December if I remember correctly. I did mine a while ago, so I do not remember.
