Do you have any other Year 11 wisdom to share, Marvin?
Sure, listen up kids:
Try to bond with your classThis may sound really cliche, but if you don't have a good strong bond within the class, you will not find Year 12 as easy as you might. In Year 11 it is a good time to make sure you have a good relationship with your classmates, and in particular your teachers. It isn't that you try to butter them up to get better marks, but psychologically if you have a good relationship with your teacher then you are more likely to be happy with doing work for them and Year 11 is the time to do that.
Get ahead, and look aheadCliche again, but if you have checked out the Year 12 exams before you start Year 12 then you have some idea where you are headed, and this is really key, or else you can easily become discouraged, so I would advise you to ask your teachers for the previous year's final exams, so that you know which topics are more important for you to really focus on.
Have a hobbyMake sure that there is something other than school in your life, because otherwise you will find that you become totally focused on school, and this is
not healthy. Some variety is good, having a hobby or a job or a sport, something to distract you from school. Just don't let it become too distracting ;P . A job or a sport are particularly good, and I personally have a job, so this is my advice.
Enjoy school, and find applications in real lifeThis is particularly important, since it is so easy to get into the 'cool' attitude of "oh, school's dumb, I really hate it, it's so boring". I understand this attitude because this was me for so much of last year it's not funny. Enjoy it. Find ways that the things you learn are applicable to life. And if you don't enjoy it, then enjoy it anyway. All it requires is effort. And if even that doesn't work, you're probably in the wrong subject. If you are unsure of what to do in school, in uni, whatever, never look back. That is one of the worst things you can do in your life, since once you start to ask the "what if" questions, you will start to become unsatisfied with where you are, what you are doing, and even eventually who you are. This is THE single most poisonous thing that your brain can do, so just don't look back. Ever. Follow your heart, and your feet will follow.
Good luck, Class of '19!
