Hey ashmi! So exciting to see another journal! Costume sewing; very cool. Do you sew regular clothes as well? ;D
That is so cool that you design costumes for cosplay!
I can really appreciate people who can make and design their own costumes! What do you cosplay as?
An welcome to the journal thread!
Hi Ashmi, amazing choice of subjects! I’m also in yr 11 doing a VERY similar set (how rare is it to see people doing PDT! I’ve only done 3/4, what is unit 1/2 like?)
Can’t wait to read your future updates! ;D
☆Term 3 - 5/09/2019☆heyy, welcome! your subjects sound very interesting!! oh my, i feel the same way with you about further! very keen to start doing practice exams eeee
Time for an update! I've been super unproductive this week. Just recently I've finished my last 3/4 SAC which is a miracle and a disaster in a way. I love the subject so its going to be a bit sad there is no more content to learn. This month so far has been quite good, except that it's spring and I have massive allergies with grass....
On the plus side, my future SACs are all spread out, which saves a whole pack of stressing out in the future. Holidays are really close now and that means filling it with last minute revision lectures!
☆Further Maths~☆
Finished my last 3/4 SAC two days ago and just got my results back really quickly. We had it on our last module Matrices and another 100% which is exciting. ;D Things are going pretty good in this subject and I love my CAS to bits (and it's slowly dying on me). The Further team is now making us start a mammoth amount of practise exams, about 10 minimum to be done before the holidays. It's really nice to know that all the content is done and we have a lot of time to practise before the exam in 57 days.
☆Product Design~☆
One of the easiest and most fun subject! We handed in our folios last week so right now we are finalising our production plan and getting ready to finally start sewing!
I've spent this week helping my Year 12 friend on her final product. I also helped her do a photoshoot for her cosplay which she was super excited about. Might put a full photo of the end-user wearing it next time, but here is what it looks like! 8)

I've been working on something a bit different in the meantime 8)~

☆Chemistry~☆
The subject I've been neglecting. Redox doesn't catch my interest at all so its been quite hard to enjoy this subject. Slightly tempted to drop it and pick up a University Extension. ???
☆Methods~☆
Definitely not as enjoyable as Further but still has its ups. Just plain old derivatives which is a nice change from having to draw constant circular functions (had to buy a new pack of pens because all mine ran out of ink!).
☆Physics~☆
One of my favourite subjects at the moment! We are just finishing up motion and we have our SAC early next week. Unit 2 of Physics works really nicely with other subjects like Methods so the workload doesn't feel like a lot. Really enjoying the content and how things actually 'work'. :D
☆English~☆
We are doing a comparative on All About Eve and The Great Gatsby. Thankfully we don't have a SAC till next term! Super chill in this subject and enjoying how there is not much work to do.
Congrats on the fantastic score in Further!
heyy, welcome! your subjects sound very interesting!! oh my, i feel the same way with you about further! very keen to start doing practice exams eeee
do you have any handy dandy cas tricks? :D i'd love some extra tips!
Further needs so much more love ;D.wow thank you so much for all the awesome tips!!
Best things to know about your CAS are the shortcuts! Always remember them and try not to look at the keyboard when typing numbers in, trust me, it saves so much time once you get the hang of it! (Might do a mini post during the holidays on some clever tricks!).
The more you know about the CAS, the better, saves so much time during assessments! Clearing your CAS before a SAC/exam is a must too. It stops it from lagging and is much more efficient. Also making sure your 'float' setting is set to a number quite high to reduce rounding errors.
Financial is pretty much your Financial Solver. I'm not too sure if people know this, but your CAS works the same as your basic computer operations, like ctrl z! You can do ctrl c and ctrl v to copy and paste, which is great for finance solver (especially those two-step process problems).
If you are doing the Geometry module, using Numerical Solve on CAS and not 'solving' anything by hand (solving for x etc) is a massive time saver. Just write the equation you input on the CAS on your assessment paper and just solving on CAS for the variable. Making sure your CAS is on the right settings (approx and degrees would be best!). 8)
For matrices, defining anything that looks like it will be repeated on in later questions and whatever you do, never clear your CAS till the end, just in case you want to go back and look at your previous working out.
Data analysis, make sure you know how to use your spreadsheet quickly and well for statistics and regression (yes, I'm looking at you too Log graphs and Data Transformations. Not confusing RV and EV variables).
Whenever in doubt, even with the simplest 'find the median' question, just use your CAS ;D That's pretty much what I can think off on the top of my head :)
New Update and having a really good week for far! Just only 1 week left till school ends. Only 50 Days left before the Further Maths Exam 1 and I'm slightly keeping on track! The holidays are approaching. Only mere days to go. Good luck for you further exam! It sounds like you're on top of things!
The AN VCE lectures start next weekend (which happens to be on my birthday). Who am I going to see there? ;)I'll be there for the last weekend!! What about you? ;D

I'll be there for the last weekend!! What about you? ;D
How do you make your designs so neat and flawless?? Even using protractors & rulers I doubt I could get that level of precision.
What is it that you like about further?
How'd do you find the Further exam, ashmi?
One of my teachers at my school is a Further VCAA examiner and she made a list of all the answers for Exam 1If you still have the list - what did she put as the answer for Q7 in Matrices? That question killed me :'(
If you still have the list - what did she put as the answer for Q7 in Matrices? That question killed me :'(
Also, congratulations on your (hopefully) 40/40 on exam 1! ;D Best of luck on Exam 2 this Monday.
Wow, that is amazing! How long did that take you too make it? The colour choice is really nice, and having a small sliver of green makes it different!
Kinda jealous that you have a dress form...... ;)
How was exam 2, did you think you went ok?
How did Exam 2 go, ashmi?
Oh god someone who likes mint chocolate... chocolate and mint DO NOT go together :(
Also you seem to have went really well with further, congrats! Also I know how it feels to lose a mark on an easy question, but you’ve done your best and it’s difficult to avoid silly mistakes 100% of the time! And I feel you with 1/2 subjects - I crammed for chemistry all on sunday and I’m cramming for methods today. Surely a day for each 1/2 is enough revision? ::)
Whys, I think it might be time for you to try some good quality choc mint ice cream then! ;)
We can be the cramming Methods buddies together! I can feel you on a spiritual level there. At this point in time, one day looks pretty decent to revise all of Unit 2. :P
Do you have any more upcoming Unit 2 exams? Honestly, right now, let's just cram together and hope that everything turns out alright!
Nope... I will reiterate, mint and chocolate never go together and never will.
I had english last friday, which was meh. I had methods tech free and chemistry today. I lost one mark on methods tech free, which i’m super cut about (I knew the answer but in the exam room I was being dumb, as always) so now my hopes of 100% are gone. Oh well, maybe I can do well on methods tech able tomorrow. Lastly, I have bio on friday. Then, freedom!!!
(honestly cramming is the way to go, who even puts effort into their 1/2s anyways right) :D
Nope... I will reiterate, mint and chocolate never go together and never will.
I'm quite excited for the Product Design exam as it has a drawing component, it will hopefully be a good, relaxing exam after Methods. What kind of things do you do in product design? Is the exam about the process of designing products in general or the products you have designed specifically? ;D
lies lies lies
What kind of things do you do in product design? Is the exam about the process of designing products in general or the products you have designed specifically? ;D
It's a really fun exam and honestly feels like you are doing a part of your folio but in a timed condition. ;)
That does sound like a lot of fun! You'd have to be really creative (and good at drawing)! How do you study for an exam like that? ;D
I actually really like choc-mint :DGreat minds think alike! ;)
Good luck with your chem exam tomorrow! (Is it your last one? ;D) Love to see you post some digital art if you're comfortable. I think it's so cool and certainly a skill I don't possess! ;D
OMG those drawings are super cute!!
I seriously applaud anyone who can do digital art. I'm a traditional artist myself but digital art kills me. You're super talented :)
Oh my goodness; they are the cutest drawings I think I have ever seen. I can't draw (either on paper or digitally). I don't know how you've had the time during VCE, but I hope you find a way to keep it up next year!
Have you got headstart at the minute? Enjoy the summer and I look forward to seeing heaps more art!
Thank you so much! I seriously can't do traditional art at all so that's why I go with digital (we love ctrl z saving the day!). 8)
I'm terrible when it comes to painting traditionally as I have a tendency to spill stuff onto my artwork :P
What type of art do you like to do? It's great to see some more arty type people on AN! ;D
Congratulations on your awards! I think I'll go to the AN meetup sometime in the afternoon! Hopefully, I'll see you there! I love my Miniso plushie. Which ones do you have? Have you got any Christmas ones? ;D
We will definitely bump into each other at the meetup! So excited to see you there! I have the dog, cat and the blue penguin Miniso plushies and I love them to bits! I don't have any Christmas ones but now that you mention it, it may be time I went back and did a mini shopping spree ;D. Do you have any Miniso plushies and if so which ones? :DGlad to hear it! I have the dark grey dog! ;D
That's amazing, Ashmi!
You're so talented!
;D
Sorry if you've mentioned this, but what tablet specifically do you use? Really incredible outcomes. Very talented, indeed!
I really love your art style, can't wait for the finished piece!
How long does it normally take for you to draw a piece on your new tablet?
How'd you go ashmi? ;DNot too good with the results :'(
Not too good with the results :'(It really sucks not to get the score you hoped but a 44 is still amazing (don't lose sight of this) and you've got a great attitude for next year!
Got a 44 in Further and I'm really disappointed in myself. I have sort of had a mental breakdown for the whole day and eventually went to school to see my teachers (who actually cried with me). I really wanted this subject to be a primary 4 subject (really wanted that 45) but at this rate, it is looking like a 10% sadly. In all honesty, I'm just really upset and hopefully I can move forward and try to get better scores in my other subjects (looking at you PDT and English for 50s :P. I'm not giving up on you two.)
My new goal for 2020 is to try and get all my subjects above Further! I doubt this will happen but it is worth giving it a go!
Hi Ashmi,
I've been reading your journal for a while. First of all, your artwork is incredible, can't wait to see more!!!
It really sucks not to get the score you hoped but a 44 is still amazing (don't lose sight of this) and you've got a great attitude for next year!
Enjoy and embrace those holidays!

Hey ashmi,
It's okay to feel disappointed about your SS but I just want to chip in to say that 44 is an amazing SS that you should definitely be proud of!
Aww... it’ll be okay Ashmi. Next year you’ll definitely achieve your subject goals!! You go get that 50 is PDT and English!!! ;D
Thank you so much! Usually takes a few hours (maybe 2 to 5 ish) depending on the type of piece it is! The more detailed ones though just to do the lineart would take a few days! ;D
Not too good with the results :'(

Thank you so much for your support! I've been an emotional train wreck the whole day and have never felt like so much of a failure. Thank you to those that stick around and comment on this journal every once in a while, you are pretty much the only reason I'm getting through this. (Yes, especially the frequent ones that always reply or like my posts. You know who you are and I love you guys ;D).
I actually moved schools to do PDT as a subject! (Really didn't want to do it as distance ed so here I am now). My goal from last year was to aim for a 50, and today, I have realised I'm not leaving the 2020 school year without it! I really want to get my PDT artwork into Top Designs for 2021, so I'm going to try my best and aim high! I'm also going to try for English too (realistically aiming 45) but you never know what's going to happen.

I know it was slightly below your goal, but it's still amazing, and you should be proud of yourself :)

Congrats for finishing Year 11! I know how it feels to not get a score as well as expected (although 44 is really good to me at least)
Good luck for next year, I definitely know you will smash VCE next year!!!
I know it feels upsetting but a 50 is for sure possible. Good luck in your new school and aim higher because you will achieve better! Get those 50s!
Congrats on your score in Further Maths. I know it was slightly below your goal, but it's still amazing, and you should be proud of yourself :)
Also, good luck with PDT/English - get that 50! ;D An advantage of doing a 3/4 in Year 11 is being able to try harder in your subjects next year to push a result you aren't happy with into your bottom 2.
Congrats on your Further score Nexica/Nate! That is IMPRESSIVE! Finding it really hard to accept my score (especially when your teacher looks really sad. That hits home :'() so I'm honestly just really down and disappointed in my efforts. You are pretty much right with it being a bottom 2 in the end! That is actually a neat way of looking at it, I always had the mindset of making the Year 11 subject the primary 4. Never actually considered making it a bottom 2 till now. I'm going to need the luck for PDT/English! (Especially English. Please bless me with your 50 luck).Thank you for the congrats, and you have been blessed with the 50 luck, use it wisely~
Now it is time for us to suffer through English, Chem, Physics and Methods together! :P (Also, what do you think is your strongest subjects out of the 4 by the way?)
Thank you for the congrats, and you have been blessed with the 50 luck, use it wisely~
Methods is definitely my strongest subject out of the 4. I love the content in it. Good luck with English/Chem/Physics/Meth btw :)
Hi Chocolatemilkshake! (such a cool name 8))
Thank you so much! Glad to see that there are people that enjoy my impulse artworks ;D.
I'm sort of struggling to come to terms with this score and I really don't know what to do or expect for my other subjects. I'm not going to lie, but I am really lost on what I should be aiming for next year. Just really hoping my other subjects can pull through and do better than this year!
(By the way, it is so good to see another KLD 2020 scholar! If there are events in the future we have to meet up sometime! ;D)
Yes, I was actually inspired to put that KLD in my signature by you! Definitely should xx
I love the approach of not just looking at study score goals but what specifically you want to work on. In regards to English, there used to be a few active vocab threads - maybe you could start one up again?
See you tomorrow :)
Update: 14/12Wow damn those look good!! Specially the contrast (idk exactly understand photography and editing but it looks really nice! :D)
Ashmi's Artwork Catastrophe update:
I usually don't like having such close journal entries, but I have some really exciting stuff! I finally have gotten my Adobe Lightroom subscription back!! ;D Now that the holy grail application is here, I've been able to do some lighting touch-ups/photo-editing again!
My friend recently just finished Year 12 and she did amazingly in PDT (so proud of her) and here are some pictures that I took for her final folio piece~
My friend made the costume for an end-user (happens to be my other friend) and we were able to take some interesting photos for her folio. I have just gotten back to looking at the other discarded photos (surprisingly they look pretty good now) and lightly edited the massive backlog of photos that have been sitting on my computer for ages.

Update: 18/12
So first off before I go into anything, thank you so much to those that were at the meetup on Sunday! It was lovely to meet you all and it was definitely a very enjoyable experience! (That Uno game was seriously so good and those cookies...YUM)
For those that are reading this right now and are in the class of 2020 or younger, what do you plan to study once you leave high school and why do you want to study it? With Uni offers out today for the Year 12s, it sort of got me thinking that I still really don't know what on earth I want to truly study. I've been tossing up the ideas of statistics and mathematical physics for a long time but then there is that arty part of me that wants to do design (I guess engineering would probably be the best in this situation). If you have any good ideas of eliminating options let me know!
Ok so moving onto the more interesting school subject stuff~
PDT:
Ok so my goal for 2020 is to get into VCE Top Design for 2021 and let's be real, who wouldn't want to have their VCE Folio and Product displayed in a museum?Probably won't happen but who knows.
On the other hand, I finished learning all of Unit 3 + Unit 4 and now I'm just starting to get inspiration for my final piece I'll be making for my project! Right now, my end-user is just trying to figure out which Pokemon she wants to model for next year. Hopefully we can finalise on one soon so I can make some visualisations! (I'm so excited to make a costume and a massive weapon ;D)
So here are the potential options my end-user is picking out of~ This is definitely going to determine my folio colour scheme for the next 10 months.

Physics: (♡I LOVE PHYSICS SO MUCH♡)
So I have officially finished learning AOS 3 (Motion) and AOS 1 (Fields)! Just going to do AOS 2 now and I'm all set for Unit 3. Currently just trying to compile a whole pack of SAC revision material as well as filtering through the old Physics study design for some more questions I can work on throughout the year. I've also been stalking the NSW Physics exams as they have some good questions on projectile motion and fields in general. (If anyone does Physics and wants a list of stuff that overlaps from our study design in other states DM me). I am really enjoying Unit 3 of Physics so far and I might be able to even finish Unit 4 before next year even begins! 8)
Chemistry:
One AOS down, another AOS to go for Unit 3! The whole idea of fuels and energy was quite simple to understand, considering most of it was actually from 1/2. Chemistry is actually going pretty smoothly and so far is much easier than 1/2? Everything is flowing really nicely in Chemistry and sort of links together very well!
Methods:
Only 3-4 chapters in and have barely done any work for this subject. Aiming to catch up a little next week!I'm so sorry for neglecting you Methods
English:
I have officially lost count of how many times I have watched Rear Window. (This movie is surprisingly addictive to watch). I've also have been re-reading my English books (Never let me go and Stasiland) and trying to pick out some interesting ideas to write for future essays. I've also tried to expand my vocabulary for Argument Analysis so it makes it much easier for me to focus on ideas rather than constantly worrying about my essay flow.
Well that's it for me for this update! How is everyone else going? Also is anyone going to the AN Lectures in January? If so, we should meet up sometime!
Wow sounds like you are super on top of your work! Especially PDT (how have you already finished the course!?)! Not really any idea what I want to do after school. Probably biomedicine as I loved biology this year and chemistry is my favourite subject.
Sounds like you've had a productive week Ashmi! You've actually motivated me to go and do some school work now ha ha.
What lectures are you planning to go for? I've so far got Chem down for the 15th.
I was thinking of just doing a bachelor of science majoring in immunology (I love diseases, especially the extremely deadly pathogens) as I would love to work at the CDC, or in chemistry. I may go into dietetics, but the job market is SOO bad.
It's amazing that you have got so much pre studying done! I really need to get on the bandwagon, but time keeps going by quicker....
I want to go to the lectures, but i'm getting my wisdom teeth out on the day it starts, and I rather not leave the house as a chipmunk....
It will be awesome to see your portfolio throughout the year, I hope you keep uploading your work!
At least we will be in the same boat of taking all heavy subjects, and have that one the scales down massively. I mean PTD scales down just as much as food studies, it insane...
In all honesty, I have no clue how I finished everything for PDT :P. I sort of just sat down and literally read the whole textbook in one hit. Thankfully most of the things in there I have actually learnt in previous years and all I really needed to know was some fancy processes for making clothes to a large industrial scale. (If you do Chemistry, you can save yourself a lot of work when it comes to materials. Didn't even realise how useful Chem was till I saw polyethylene terephthalate in my PDT textbook).
Biomedicine sounds like a really good choice since you love Chem and Bio! Do you have an idea what uni you wanted to study it at?
Probably Melbourne or Monash, I have no idea what to choose and kind of have been neglecting it.
Oh yeahhh.....gotta love Art subjects though ha ha. Lucky for me, Art doesnt get scaled down too much, if I score high enough it should stay the same.
But yeah..its so annoying how they can scale down out folios if we just do poorly on the exam.....
I'm *planning* on doing the BSci @ Melbourne Uni, just to keep my options open, as I'm still so indesisive, and hopefully moving towards Biomedical Engineering.
And yay! Hopefully will see you at the lectures in Jan ;D
Oh this folio is so cool!!! Its so interesting to see a completely digital folio as all the ones I've seen are traditional.
I really like the colour scehem and format. Its simple, but because its simple it doesnt draw away from the images and writing on the page.
Love the folio so far ;)Thank you~~~
Also, does anyone have any tips with sticking with your New Year's Resolution? (I am a terrible culprit for not staying on track)If you have a lot of goals, or just some big goals that can be split into mini-goals, how about making them into a bingo card?
I've also been having a lot of problems trying to make the final theme of this folio look appealing. After multiple attempts of experimenting with different designs, I ended up rolling with a really simple green bar like theme? I'm not too sure if this works (or even looks good) so if you have any suggestions to make the folio stand out I would love to know!It looks great! Sometimes simple is good. :D
If you have a lot of goals, or just some big goals that can be split into mini-goals, how about making them into a bingo card?
You could set up a grid on an A4 sheet of paper, writing small, achievable goals in each box. Add a number in a corner, stating how many times you need to do that goal before you can cross that box off. Each time you achieve any goals on the page, you can put a tally mark in that box. Once you have hit the number in the corner, cross the box off. Then, like a normal game of bingo, your aim is to have an entire row, column or diagonal crossed off by the end of the year.
To add difficulty, try to make similar goals as far away from each other on the grid and if it’s a small, simple goal, make it so that you have to do a lot of times e.g. 50. (Same goes for habits you want to create.)
The hardest part of this is not lying to yourself and doing this regularly enough that you keep yourself accountable.
I did this at the beginning of 2019 with a 7 x 7 grid and I stuck this sheet somewhere I’d see it regularly, with a pen nearby. It kind of worked; I achieved majority of the mini goals like drinking more water each day and getting more steps in a day than last year, with me about to hit bingo very soon (possibly today). I’m hoping to make a new bingo card today for 2020 and carry this on, as I found it quite helpful, so maybe this will work for you too. :)
It looks great! Sometimes simple is good. :D
This is an amazing idea!! I absolutely love the idea of making it into a bingo card. It sounds like a really fun way to stay on track with your goals ;D (Might actually get my friends to try doing this too so we all have a yearly mini-bingo game of goals)No worries! Glad it helped. In true creative fashion, you could make it as pretty/ neat as you like and customise it as much as you like. If it's not too personal, feel free to share yours here, if you like, and we can keep you accountable! (By the way, I did get bingo yesterday.)
Thank you so much for sharing this, will definitely create one and use it for my 2020 goals :)
Immunology sounds so cool! Where did you plan to study it at? (Melb Uni? Monash?)
I actually haven't realised how much work I've actually done till I was writing in my journal tonight actually. (PDT, Physics and Chem feels more like a hobby rather than a subject which is weird) Our time is actually disappearing so quickly and we are nearly at Christmas, let alone the end of the year :o
You probably don't want to be going out of the house when you are getting your wisdom teeth out. *sending healing powers* At least you will get a copy of the lecture slides! Hopefully, I'll see you for Term 2 holidays then ;D (The chipmunk bit had me laughing way too hard)
I'll definitely be uploading a lot of my folio for this year into this journal for sure! I might even have a few pages of visualisations done by the end of the week if I can get my PDT contract finalised.
VCAA really hates us and our arty subjects don't they? Like it takes so much work to do a folio (PDT SACs and Folio is 70% of SS) and then our exam decides the scaling of our folios? It is so bizarre and PDT and Food Studies scale down by at least -7 which is insane! :'( Even with scores that are 46+, it scales down so badly still. We can suffer together Geoo :P
*A silent moment to all the VCE Art/Design/Tech students out there suffering from scaling*

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't see it until now. I'm still not sure where I want to study. I haven't seen either campus (so I will make sure to go to an open day next year) so I'm not sure on that, and another decision I have to make is commute. Melb is 2 hours and monash is 1 hour from where I live. So it really depends on if I can make that commitment to commute, although I really like Melbourne uni looking from the outside.
Yeah hopefully the term 2 holidays! Haha, I will take all of the healing, apparently it is going to take a while to heal so...
Anyway, i'm looking forward to you uploading your folio works throughout the year, and yes, we can suffer and make it through VCAA's scaling!!!! But in all seriousness it is really insane how much VCAA scales us down, and that really sucks for it to come down to an exam, especially since it is written work not taking into account all the hard effort it took to draw all the assessments throughout the year. Our exam is worth 40%, and doesn't take into account all of the cooking we do... But good luck ;)
Hi Ash!
Great summary and good way to lead into 2020....can't believe how quickly this year went and I'm sure you'll feel similar next year, but try to embrace it!
That bet sounds kinda mean...unless you choose a day like today for the ice bath, in which case it sounds like your friend is trying to do you a favour! In any case, I have a feeling you won't have to worry about it :)
NYSF sounds interesting! What's it about?
Hi Ash!!!!
That bingo card looks amazing!! I think I might have to adopt one of those into my life to keep myself accountable haha ;D
It was interesting to read your goals - I can say theyre pretty similar to mine!! I'm also trying my best to get into TopArts next year!! I agree, itll be soooooo cool to see our folios on display for everyone to see!!
Have fun at NYSF!! It really sounds like a great program to be apart of :D
Nice intro into 2020 Ashmi! Can’t wait to read your journal next year ;) Also good luck with your goals, with hard work there is a very high chance you’ll smash them (at least your bet gives you good motivation!)
Hey Choco! ;D
Hopefully, I'll work smart enough to be able to achieve my goals!😂
As negative as this sounds, I've sort of come to a conclusion that if I work hard, I don't ever seem to reach any goals no matter how much I try to break them down into smaller chunks? Like I can get close, but never actually get there? 2020 please bless me with some luck so I can actually achieve at least one main goal😭. Also, thank you and good luck to you too~
Hi Arty! ;D
You should make a bingo card too if you have the chance! If you feel comfortable posting your goals, I would love to see them sometime :D
If your folio gets accepted into Top Arts for 2021, guess who is going to be the first person on the day to run in and find your folio🤣. It would be amazing if we could both get our folios in!!
If you can, please post some folio pictures as I would love to see them!
I'm just really put off doing more thanks to VCAA's terrible scalingFeels lmao 😥
You can also get a scholarship to go or get endorsed by a rotary club if you struggle to pay the full amount (I was able to get a full scholarship to go because of this).Sorry for the dumb question :-[, but what is a rotary club?
YES ASH! I BELIEVE in you SO MUCH and you can totally do it! When results come out next year I'll totally be holding out for your 50 in PDT!!!!!
Also, not sure why I'm writing this but I have a (bizarre) fear of birds. At the moment we are bird sitting and I held one! If I can do that you can do anything 8)
Thanks Ash!!! It will be amazing!! I'll be sure to do the same at Top Designs if that happens ;D
Yep! I'm planning to post my goals sometime soon - you made me motivated to get on to it ha ha.
Cant wait to follow your journal into next year :)
Feels lmao 😥
All the best for this year Ashmi! And I absolutely love how you’re aiming high for PDT! It’s tough but also a really rewarding subject especially for engineering and design and it will give you a great head start in comparison to those who know all the STEM-related theory inside out without any practical knowledge or experience. Good luck for this year and for top designs!!
Sorry for the dumb question :-[, but what is a rotary club?
This is like the most inspirational thing I have ever read.😂 I'm just going to hope that I get extremely lucky in the exam and that it is going to be a 50. (Watch it be like 46 or something).
If you ever need someone to protect you from birds just summon me at any time! (How do you deal with going outside then with a fear of birds? Like what do you do about it? :o) Thank you for the motivational support and hopefully, everything works out!
Not a dumb question at all! Rotary is basically a non for profit organisation that strives to make the place we live in better while giving opportunities to people to do something big who may have not been able to do it by themselves. The main theme of Rotary is "Service above self" and then there is a 4-way test each Rotarian stick by.Thanks so much for the through explanation :)
In terms of NYSF, NYSF highly recommends that you apply with a rotary club which would be one near your local school or home. Your school may actually be involved with a rotary club and it would be a good place to start to see if they would like to endorse your application. It would be really good if you could get involved in a club or even if you know a few people from it. (My old primary school teacher was part of the club and that's how I got my application endorsed).
NYSF and Rotary Australia work together to give young people who are particularly interested in Science a chance to be able to pursue it through this program! Do note, Rotary does not have any obligation to pay for your trip though. In my case, I got half of it funded by rotary and the other half from a scholarship provided by NYSF. The main idea of Rotary is to give without expecting anything back!
Thanks!! Well, if you ever see a person running below a bird with their hands over their head you’ll know it was me.
All good, can’t wait to follow your journal next year 8)
Thanks so much for the through explanation :)
I guess I'll need to start doing a bit of research into this!
I'll probably make an NYSF review and application process post when I get back from the trip! *Stay tuned*Sure will :)
Wow I can’t believe it got cut short cause of air quality :'(. Sounds like you had a great time despite that though, would love to hear more. :D
Glad to hear you had a great time Ash, despite it being cut short!!
Would love to hear more about your adventures :D
Ahh! NYSF sounds amazing!
I was pushed to go by my teachers from school but couldn't find an endorsement by a Rotary club and at some point, I couldn't be bothered... but I really, really regret it now!
Oooooooo looks like you've done a good amount of work as preparation!! Its actually super motivating to see ;D
And yessssss......we love Physics :D
Glad you had a great time at the lectures!! (and I cant wait to see how your PDT final turns out!!!)
Thanks for tuning in to this episode of my journey journal😂
In the past few weeks, I've abandoned my dear CAS calculator completely and I'm seeing some massive improvements when it comes to doing Methods without a CAS.That's a great idea, I normally try and do all the exercises without a calculator because I feel pretty confident in my ability to punch some numbers into a computer, so it's time better spent improving my 'by hand' skills.
Nice Ash! It seems like you've got a fantastic start on the year. As Arty said, I'm really looking forward to seeing your final design (ahh it's going to be awesome, I know it!!! :o ;D ;D)
Wow! I wish I had the motivation to do that much work over the holidays! Seriously, you should be super proud of that effort. ;D That's a great idea, I normally try and do all the exercises without a calculator because I feel pretty confident in my ability to punch some numbers into a computer, so it's time better spent improving my 'by hand' skills.
Great to see you enjoyed your time at NYSF, that looked like a blast! Best of luck for the year ahead, I'm sure you'll smash it!! :) :)
Wowie, looking at that previous post at all the work you've done on the holidays makes me feel like I've truly done nothing (which is true).
But seriously, congrats! I could have never gotten that far! (I'm a procrastinator at heart and I'm going to end up trying to finish all holiday homework in the last few days before school...)
Have fun starting school tomorrow (whilst I sit at home until Tues...). I'm excited to see where the year takes you!!
Folios looking super great too! I'm loving the colour scheme.
Yessss the science subjects are so interesting in Year 12...Year 11 seems like such a drag now that I look back! Especially Chem..
No phones policy? Thats interesting!
Have a lovely night :D
The guide is awesome Ash and LOVING the folio work so far ;D Have a great day at school today
Something magical has happened to all the science subjects because unit 3/4 is so far much more interesting than 1/2. A bit weird but loving the way it's going right now.
Yes, this magic is wonderful and I hope it stays this way throughout the year.
Are you going to get an analogue watch or digital? :D
Most likely an analogue watch so I can bring it into the final exam ;D. I'm going to go watch hunting this weekend so hopefully, I can find something nice that will last the whole year.
How are you finding your subjects and the new year Ionic Doc?
Also, does anyone else have any interesting experiences with the 'Mobile Phone' ban? (Would love to hear about it! :)))
Great so far. I love learning all the content in every single one of my subjects. I know it's bound to soon get rough and hard in certain parts of the year but I still won't ever stop enjoying the experience of learning. STEM subjects will never get me bored. ;)
My school has had this policy for the last two years. In the year they introduced it everyone thought it was like a temporary rule that wouldn't really be reinforced. We were all wrong. Teachers would literally make students empty out there pockets and if you had your phone on you they would take it up. Your parents would then need to come and pick the phone up after school at the reception. My school is crazy strict about it and everyone now knows to leave there phones in their lockers.
Have you gotten much homework this week? I've already been bombarded with work
completely different teachers from Head-Start (which happens to be all my fav teachers woohoo!!)Lucky! My teachers this year are pretty mediocre
I'm so excited for AOS 4 Probability (I LOVE Probability).Woah, that's a first to someone who likes probability. I mean, I don't mind it but I certainly prefer circular functions and calculus
If you guys have any recommendations on stuff please tell me! Looking for food ideas.Whenever our school would sell those snowball treats, my friends and I would buy them in bulk and store them in our lockers XD
Wow, I just logged on after a while and so much has already been happening for you! Tests and sacs already?
Lucky! My teachers this year are pretty mediocre

Whenever our school would sell those snowball treats, my friends and I would buy them in bulk and store them in our lockers XDOh yum! I think I'm going to add this on my list for my next grocery study period shop 🤣. Buying in bulk is such a good feeling and knowing you have a collection of quality food in your locker is the best!
Good times
It's great to know you're enjoying Year 12 so far (just hearing the number 12 makes me dread rn lol)! Good luck for everything, not that you will need it :)
Nice to hear from you Ash! Congrats on smashing the chemistry mini test ;D
What did you do on study camp? Like is it study 24/7 or do they do different activities and stuff?
re: tension
A generally good approach is:
1. Draw a diagram
2. Find the acceleration of the whole system. You can do this by adding all the masses and forces acting on the system together (keep in mind that some forces may be acting in the opposite direction and thus negative) & using f/m = a. Recognise that the acceleration of each component of the system will be the same as the acceleration of the system
4. identify that mass(es) that the tension is pulling on using your diagram from step 1.
5. use f=ma to find the net force on those masses (a is from step 3 and m is from step 4)
6. Add/subtract as appropriate other forces acting on those masses from the net force to identify the magnitude of the tension force.
7. Check you have presented the tension using the right units and fully answered the question
Awesome update Ash!! *sending lots of good vibes your way for your upcoming SACs*
I'm loving following your journey its motivating haha. That camp sounds like it was super fun too!
Have a great week ;D
I just came back from a Study Camp and I'm seriously out of whack.I'm probably very late but how was it? Was it a lot of fun or a bit more on the stressful side?
I bought a whole pack of Muji pens the other day and have never felt so satisfied.I never really knew the hype revolving Muji pens until my friends got them for me for my birthday. Ever since, my filthy notes took a great turn.
My cat is secretly plotting something. I can feel it.As someone with a cat, I can relate. Since I moved, I've been away from my cat a few days and I think he's already got it all planned. My mom told me he's been in my room for a while and also spending time alone at the basement (that's where all the wicked things happen though).
Very odd thought here, but when I was catching a tram down to the State Library, I have never noticed how amazing Melbourne architecture is. (Especially Flinders Street. Never noticed it during morning/afternoon peak). That's an very different opinion to someone who goes past almost everyday. I just notice the amount of bird poop and get scared from all those birdies flying around.
I have a SAC this Friday and then less than 2 weeks later another one! I'm ready to cry because of tension and no matter how much I try, tension just doesn't want to cooperate with me. On the other hand, I LOVE projectile motion, so I guess it balances out in the end. I'm not feeling a good vibe about this SAC, but I'm hoping that my Physics teacher doesn't destroy me too much... ::)Good luck!!! I believe in you and I know you will do great. Definitely helps when you genuinely enjoy the content/
Had a mini-test (sort of like a learning checkpoint thingy) the other day and somehow got 56/57! Thank you Thermochem and now we are doing Gas Laws. We had a practical task today which was about fuels and was super fun! Chem so far has been so good but let's watch my mood change as soon as a SAC comes around the corner.Great to know chem has been working out for at least one of us XD Teach me your ways!
The SAC is due next week and straight after we have the beautiful Argument Analysis!
2 SACS in two weeks, one this Wednesday and one next week Monday morning.
We are now doing transformations and then there will be a SAC soon.
Recently, I've also been looking at different universities courses and possible majors to do. I'm still pretty set on doing the Bachelor of Science/Masters of Engineering combo at Melbourne, but I'm everywhere when it comes to picking a major.
I've been thinking of doing Electrical systems and also doing subjects in the bioengineering systems so when I do get to Masters, I can choose between Electrical and Biomedical? I don't know how Biomedical came into my head, but it has and now it's stuck there with Electrical. It's still a long way away so I would like to see what I end up putting on my VTAC preferences.
I'm probably very late but how was it? Was it a lot of fun or a bit more on the stressful side?Very stressful because I couldn't do any work on it🤣. A very fun camp but wasn't really for me as the workshops were already stuff I felt comfortable in. Other than that pretty good!
I never really knew the hype revolving Muji pens until my friends got them for me for my birthday. Ever since, my filthy notes took a great turn.Muji is a blessing to this world, saving poor handwriting and turning it into eligible words :P. Physically cannot go back anymore to normal pens.
As someone with a cat, I can relate. Since I moved, I've been away from my cat a few days and I think he's already got it all planned. My mom told me he's been in my room for a while and also spending time alone at the basement (that's where all the wicked things happen though). He is definitely up to something crafty. I guess it's just a matter of time to see what he comes up within the next few days ;D ('Cat updates with Chopsticks' should be a whole other journal😂).
That's an very different opinion to someone who goes past almost everyday. I just notice the amount of bird poop and get scared from all those birdies flying around.Ok now that you have put it like this I fully agree with you :P. I go past it every day too but now that you highlighted that, I don't think I can look at Flinders the same way again.
Good luck!!! I believe in you and I know you will do great. Definitely helps when you genuinely enjoy the content/Aww Chopsticks thank you!!!
Great to know chem has been working out for at least one of us XD Teach me your ways!
Good luck for all of your sacs. I know how annoying it is to have them scheduled near each other (some of my friends have their Bio and Jap sac on the same day). Stay strong and ace all of them!!!
Both my 3/4 sacs happen to be next term (including Methods). I'm surprised your Methods sac is coming up so soon. Either way, good luck again!
That's a really cool course. Meanwhile, I'm growing ever so indecisive about what I want to do. It's good to know you know exactly what you want to do (if only I was actually dead set on a course).Don't worry Chopsticks, you still have plenty of time! If you told the 2019 me that I wanted to do Electrical + Biomed Engineering, I would have laughed my head off ;D. Still not 100% on it but so far, it's the only course that involves stuff I like? Right now, I'm just trying to pick something that covers a range of stuff I enjoy (physics, chem, maths, design) and if I do decide to change, at least it means I've given everything else a go and that certain things work/doesn't work for me. I'm definitely very far from being dead set Chopsticks but just keep in mind that a flexible course is a really good choice if you don't have a specific thing you want to do.
I've said this a million times already but good luck, good luck, good luck! Believe in yourself and remember to take care, even if it's doing small things like taking a break or having a nap. You will get through this and ace everything :)
✰Update: 1/03✰
✰PDT✰
Why hello PDT my fav subject right now! 8) Had a SAC for this last Monday and I'm pretty sure I did well in it. We are onto the research stage for the folio and I have begun to print out small sections of my folio one at a time. Will post a few pics when it comes together soon. Our class is having a competition on who will reach 100 pages in their folio first (thanks to this girl who got premier's in 2018 for setting a high standard). I'm about 20 pages in so far which is not too far away from the goal but I'm excited to see who will reach the goal first.
How's the 200 pages goin? (please tell me you're doin better than Rachie)
Heyoo! Finally caught up with all the missed entries wow! Also 100 PAGES OR 200 PAGES WTHH! That’s like an actual thesis full length thesis right?! Good luck, I’m sure you’ll ace it! ;D
Update time!! (Before I get started, anyone part of KLD 2020 that is going to the 'Day Zero' Event? I want to meet some new people!)
Ok, last week was seriously jam-packed. So much happened I don't even know where to start. Well for starters I went to the International Women's Day Breakfast at Crown and was probably one of the most entertaining social events I've been too. I got to meet a girl who is actually on exchange from Switzerland who is part of my Rotary club (and actually does PDT WOOHOO). I also signed up to do more volunteering through my Rotary Club and got to meet the people that helped sponsor me for NYSF. We went to Luna Park on Friday to 'feel the force' and had a blast/
The folio pages are beautiful Ash! And yay that your physics SAC is over :)
Kind of keen for the KLD event but not sure what lecture I'd want to attend, do you have an idea for which one you want to do?
Also Luna park sounds fun and that's fantastic that you are volunteering, very inspiring ;D
Have a great rest of the week 8)
For the KLD event, I put as my first preference 'Engineering System Design 1' (cause Ashmi over here loves her maths and design in one place) and then for second preference I put 'Introduction to Mathematics'. (I didn't really see myself being able to sit through a lecture about Australian wildlife.... Give me an update when you pick which lectures you are going too! :D)Just going to jump in to say that I have Engineering Systems design as my first preference too! Then Introduction to Microeconomics... hope to see you there! :D
Just going to jump in to say that I have Engineering Systems design as my first preference too! Then Introduction to Microeconomics... hope to see you there! :D
(It's rare to see anyone on the forums that is part of KLD. I'm going to be slightly sad if we actually miss each other)
I was part of KLD and it was a Kwonger that introduced me to AN but maybe I don't count because I'm in uni now :P
I feel like there should be a bunch of KLD ANers ... would be weird if it was only the two of you
That KLD event sounds really fun! I'm in KLD Class of 2021 and we have an event, "A Day at Melbourne", on April 4. We have to choose 2 sessions from these different workshops and lectures and I've put down the Engineering and Economics sessions as my first two preferences. Hope you enjoy yours, it should be a lot of fun! :)
(Also, very weird question, but is anyone else using Microsoft Teams? ;D)My school has been using Microsoft teams for 2 years+ as a replacement for another online program we had been using in in year 9. We use it for everything haha - chatting (the main one lol), study groups, asking teachers questions after hours (literally teachers are always online it's crazy), announcements from teachers/principal, announcements from clubs, lost and found property, library announcements, resources for each subject etc. It's really handy! We'll be using teams as well if school goes into lockdown through the meeting option for each subject. I think lots of schools will be using teams/zoom since they're really easy to use. I prefer teams since you can upload things onto it and you can send announcements and chat to each other privately/create group chats/study chats. I really hope we don't have to move to online though, it'll be a massive disadvantage (albeit for everyone).
Hey ashmi! That really sucks about PDT, but don't give up hope! The ATAR is a ranking, so if you are facing these problems, so is everyone else. I definitely believe you can achieve your goals - don't give up!

I really hope we don't have to move to online though, it'll be a massive disadvantage (albeit for everyone).Awesome to see someone else that uses Teams! (I love the private study chats so much)
Nice to hear from you Ashimi!
I'm in a similar boat as you are when it comes to PTD. I need lots of food products for Food Studies so I 100% relate to running out of supplies. Is there any way you can hire/rent an overlocker for a few weeks? I got mine at Aldi when they did a special, they are quite expensive otherwise from places like spotlight and linecraft even with sales.. Is there a local sewer in you area you could borrow off either?
I think alot of people are in thinking the same way when it comes to ATAR's, this is just such an odd situation were in, so at least there is some solidarity in that. Lets hope all the panic buying stops soon! Enjoy your last week at school (which will probably be the last for a while...)
Thanks for the update, I'm really love reading this journal!Yeah it sort of sucks for all the folio/material-based subjects right now but hopefully everything works out in the end! (Ahhh thank you very much for your kind words! Hoping it shines through with my final PDT product)
It sucks about PDT and I can't imagine being half way through a final before being told that you might not be able to have access to the technology you need to finish it. Hopefully it works out :) (On another note, can I just say your cosplay (on your insta) is INCREDIBLE! I can't wait to see that talent in your final!
Congrats on english and physics (so proud ;D ;D). Also I feel you in chemistry (a subject very easy to panic in aha) - was that your first SAC or have you already had two?
How have you guys been going with your holidays? I bet by the time we come out of quarantine, we are going to have some amazing cooks. ;D
Hey Ashmi! ;DYou will not believe how much this actually means to me Evolio🤣. I really do mean it though, it means a hella lot! (I BELIEVE IN YOU TOO!)
Don't give up hope on that degree! YOU WILL GET THERE! I know that you've got this! As you say to me, I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!
Wow, you have certainly been busy. I definitely think that doing some exam practice now will benefit. Even though I'm in year 11, exposing myself do different VCAA questions for my 3/4s has been very helpful!Hey, eloisewebster! ;D
That sounds horrible in terms of PDT. Corona has hit us all hard, but that really would be a pain! Your folio pics on this journal have been incredible and I admire your creativity and obvious talent (I have never been good at art)! Also, how is methods going? I am little worried about it and I just want to see where everyone else is up to.
We all believe in you! You can always get into your dream course. As long as you stick at it, you can do anything. The fact that you are already ahead in your subjects bodes well for the rest of the year!
What have you been doing to relax? From 2 weeks of experience at the end of term 1, virtual school is quite tiring and you need some downtime.
Can't wait to read more of your journal 8)
Hey Ashmi,, hope you are okay, we're all in this together! you've got this - don't stress too much just do the best you can! I'm also in the same boat, im not too happy with plan b being that our yr 11 scores may be used,, but all we can do now is do the best we can and hope everything will be okay :)
Every storm cloud does pass, after all - but not without a little rain! I believe in you ashmi, and the resolve of the class of 2020 will forever be a memory we can look back on later on.Hey whys! ;D
ashmi - you WILL reach your goals!! you WILL do amazing!! Its okay to feel a little down and demotivated (aren't we all) but I'm SO positive that you will come out of this and do amazing!! Just keep your head in the game and we'll support you no matter what.
I BELIEVE IN YOU. YOU WILL GET THERE :D
Hey Ash,Arty and Choco, I want to say, YOU TWO ARE AMAZING! One of the best motivational comments I have read and thank you so much!💕 After reading all this, I do feel so much better and the goal is getting a tad bit clearer in the fog.💖
I agree with all the other positive comments above ^^ You are incredible, you work so hard and deserve amazing things! We are all with you 100% and it is totally okay to feel like you're not going to make your goals, we all do sometimes. But I know that you'll persist and achieve awesome things at the end of 2020 despite the challenges we all are facing at the moment.
You are honestly one of the most valued members of the class of 2020 AN gang and we all believe in you ;D ;D
It seems like with all the stress going on you're catastrophising a little (one of my "favourite" hobbies in year 12)
I totally feel you on the learning from home bit - apart from missing classroom interactions a bit I actually like it!!
Ah Physics - a subject we both love at hate at the same time - congrats on finishing motion though! Def a big relief ah ha. I'm postive that you WILL reach your goals in this subject! You've got this.
Also Congrats on the PDT mark!! So excited to see what this subject brings for you in the future!
ANd good luck with everything else thats happening! I'm positive you WILL do well in Eng and Methods ;D (I genuinely miss methods lol - enjoy it while it lasts ah ha)
In terms of tutoring, I've never gotten tutored for anything for my entirety of schooling. Not to mention, I'm def not blitizing in my subjects either and some extra help could be beneficial - however, I'm not interested in getting it. I personally find that by learning myself, I'm learning more skills and content thoroughly without slacking off if you know what I mean. It does help that most people around me don't get it either, maybe around 20% of my Spec class does, but that's moreso the people who are genuinely struggle and do need that extra assistance.
SpoilerOk here is the negative bit/weird part cause I don't want to ruin it with the nice positive bit of the journal.
I don't know what's happened to me again, but it sort of feels like I'm taking one step forward and two steps backwards? I do wonder sometimes if this work is going to pay off, but there is always that little bit that says "Yeah, no sweetie that ain't happening". The other Chem teacher literally gave me so much hope yesterday and said that if you keep your average above 90+, you are likely to get a 40+ SS based on his statistics from teaching Chem, so I magically feel a little bit more motivated after that! My new goal for Chem is to challenge myself and to get my average up to 95% (which is going to be super difficult but that's what life is!).
Also, is it super common for people to do tutoring these days? I was having this interesting debate with a friend and it turns out that in my friend group everyone gets tutored for at least one subject except me😅. I find that at different schools, tutoring is either really common or not common at all.
At my school, it's really common to get tutoring for EAL/English, Spesh and Languages so what is it like at your school? (Similar subjects or completely different ones?). Do people tend to get tutoring for subjects they are weak at or some other reason? This whole debate happened yesterday when my friend explained how nearly everyone but one person in her Spesh class gets tutoring for Spesh *insert shocked Ashmi face* (I knew it was common, but I didn't think it was THAT common. Big eye opener).
It does help that most people around me don't get it either, maybe around 20% of my Spec class does, but that's moreso the people who are genuinely struggle and do need that extra assistance.Like others have said tutoring is definitely not 100% necessary for someone to do well. There are definitely examples of those who didn't get tutored and still do relatively well and those with tutors not doing so well. However, as a whole on a population level, I would think it does help a student do better. It is definitely one of the contributing factors (amongst many others) on why those who are of a high SES are more likely going to have higher ATARs.
Trust me, if you keep on top of everything and stay motivated, you can do whatever you dream. You dont need a tutor to do well, just keep at it, and dont let the others make you feel bad about yourself. You've got this! I believe in you!!
Hi Bri and thanks for stopping by ;D
This. This is it. What you said here I think is exactly the problem I've been stuck with.
I really find it hard not stress about things and really have no idea how on earth to control it.
Do you have any techniques or advice on how to stay calm? I've tried taking breaks and getting exercise/spending time with family, but I don't really know how to control the stress. (It could be because of trying to get my sleep schedule back on track or lack of proper food but is there anything you know that could work?). It's sort of like the cloud that just hangs over you and you have no clue how to get rid of it.
(If anyone has really good calming techniques or anything at all, I would love to hear about it so I can try them! :D)
\With the new situation and learning from home, I am so happy with the extra free time! On a school night, I usually get home about 5:30/6ish so it's great to have so much time to do things ;D. Virtual school has been so much fun and I'm finding it easier to get work done on time (and sleep early too). Other than that, I do miss the social interaction of the classroom and being able to walk outside freely for no reason.I do agree with the free time bit, however, I'm not sure if it is just me but I find it so hard to motivate myself to do homework/study after class! I also do miss the social aspect a ton🥺
✰PDT✰You can do this!! I've had a look through your folio and it seems incredible! And 98% on a SAC is UNREAL! You go get that 50 girl 💕💕
Hey PDT! I have a SAC for you in less than 3 weeks hahaha.
My folio has been going alright and I'm just waiting for an authentication check from my teacher. I got my first SAC back the other day and got 98%. A bit upset considering it was a one mark difference but other than that it's all good! (I'm gonna try get that 100% for the next SAC 8))
*Stay tuned to see Ashmi cramming her design options*
But seriously, Methods is going SO GOOD! Everything has been great and I've just being doing a lot of practise exam questions here and there. I love the extended response questions and I get so excited when I can use my CAS. (That sounds super weird but yeah I have a CAS obsession if you haven't noticed by the journal name).
There has been something I've been wanting to say about this subject for a long time, but OH MY LORD IT'S SO MUCH EASIER THAN FURTHER.
Further looked so hard compared to this subject and I have absolutely no clue why. I think it's because Methods is much more straightforward? It's a bit weird, but I'm glad it's like this! I have a good feeling this is going to be one of those subjects that does well for once.
Also, is it super common for people to do tutoring these days? I was having this interesting debate with a friend and it turns out that in my friend group everyone gets tutored for at least one subject except me😅. I find that at different schools, tutoring is either really common or not common at all.At my school, it is SUPER common for people to have tutoring. In my methods class last year, about 16 out of 22 had tutoring. Most people get tutoring to get ahead. Most of my methods class learnt 1/2 in year 10, 3/4 in year 11 etc. I don't really know why people do this and I think tutors should only really be needed if you are struggling with a subject. But honestly, do NOT worry about other people getting tutoring. At the end of the day, hard work really does pay off. You have been working so SO hard and I KNOW you can reach your goals 🥺💕🥺💕🥺💕🥺💕
With the new situation and learning from home, I am so happy with the extra free time! On a school night, I usually get home about 5:30/6ish so it's great to have so much time to do things ;D. Virtual school has been so much fun and I'm finding it easier to get work done on time (and sleep early too). Other than that, I do miss the social interaction of the classroom and being able to walk outside freely for no reason.Yes!! I feel this, but there are definitely days where it can be counter-productive (oh I'll do it later cause i have the time), but agree that the extra free time is amazing cause, in reality, teachers seem to not set enough work to last the entire period (to account for mucking around and them talking lots?) so its nice to finish work 'early' and get some revision in or chill before your next class
✰Methods✰What. what are we all missing? are you god? how is this possible?
There has been something I've been wanting to say about this subject for a long time, but OH MY LORD IT'S SO MUCH EASIER THAN FURTHER.
✰English✰You're doing better than me I've only written the 2 essays I had to do in class haha, I love how prepared and dedicated you are like can i have some of your dedication in persistence please thanks haha
SAC next week on Argument Analysis and guess who doesn't feel prepared at all? That's right, I've barely done anything except mini-essay pieces here and there. (Excluding class stuff). My whole plan for the rest of the week is to write full on essays and get them marked for feedback. I'm going to aim for 100% (cause why not?) and now I'm going to get started on some lovely essays.
Hey Ashmi! I absolutely love your journal!! :))Hey colline! ;D
Re: tutoring - I know people IRL who got tutored in all SIX of their subjects, at really expensive rates too (I'm talking $60-90 an hour) throughout year 11 and 12, and ended up with 60-70 ATARs; I know people who didn't get any tutoring and scored 99+.
I got tutored in 2 of my subjects - chem (because I didn't do 1/2 and having a tutor made it easier to catch up), and methods (because everyone I knew was getting tutored so I got peer pressured lol). I found them helpful, but at the same time, if you have the motivation and self-discipline to set goals for yourself and go out of your way to find extra resources, I wouldn't say it is necessary.
The other benefit of tutoring I can think of is having someone there who has went through it before to answer questions even outside of class and just to provide guidance in revision etc. But I think that's only something you'd get from private tutoring.
Congrats on your sick chem score! All the best for your methods test this Thursday! Can't wait for your future updates! ^-^
Like others have said tutoring is definitely not 100% necessary for someone to do well.
You're absolutely welcome :)Hey Bri! :D
Some people find mindfulness/meditation exercises useful, and generally mental and physical wellbeing are closely tied together. It sounds like you've been implementing some good things already with exercise, socialisation etc. so that's good :) What's been most useful for me was seeking counselling which helped me process some of the underlying stuff and break out of some of the patterns driving my stress. Earlier this year I reached out to Monash Online Counselling and they linked me a few resources like moodgym and reachout tools. You could also try things like headspace etc. to talk to a counsellor.
Hope this helps!
Edit: I didn't get any tutoring and achieved my 98+ goal so just adding to the chorus saying it's def possible to do well without it even though tutoring can be really helpful :)
I do agree with the free time bit, however, I'm not sure if it is just me but I find it so hard to motivate myself to do homework/study after class! I also do miss the social aspect a ton🥺Hi eloisegrace!
You can do this!! I've had a look through your folio and it seems incredible! And 98% on a SAC is UNREAL! You go get that 50 girl 💕💕
I am SO glad that methods is working out well for you! For me, methods feels astronomically harder than further. This could be due to my teachers but idk why I find methods a lot harder and more strenuous this year. Also, any extended response tips would be very useful haha. We had a diagnostic circular functions test (from NEAP so it was v hard) and I feel like I failed the extended response...

Hey ashmi,Thank you so much for your input!
Always great to see a journal update from you, nice to see you are going well in all your subjects! :)
I just thought I would comment on the thing about tutoring (heads up, I have never received any tutoring). I certainly think there are benefits to tutoring, (as many people have already explained better than I ever could), but I would like to make sure of a couple of things.
a) Tutoring is not a prerequisite for success in VCE; I know several people who had zero tutoring throughout their entire schooling life who received high 99s. Success ultimately lies on the individual and their work ethic, and purely based on the way you speak about school and your subjects on this journal, you clearly have a very high work ethic and pride yourself on your school work.
and
b) At the end of the day, it should be your choice as to whether having a private tutor would be beneficial to you in VCE. If you decide that it would be, I would hope that that decision is yours, and not influenced by other people. Please don't feel like you have to do something just because other people are doing it! :)
Anyway, hope you enjoy the rest of your week, and best of luck for your upcoming SACs!
Heyyy ashmi!Hey whys! ;DGo to sleep!
You with physics sounds exactly like me with English - I have such a love-hate relationship with it :(. But, we shall persevere and beat our teachers/VCAA/whoever! (And can I just say, that Pingu reference was great). Also, I did something similar in my bio SAC. I can do the hard stuff but I always forget the easy stuff... which sucks. We can share our pain!
Art block sucks, but I'm sure you'll get out of it soon! Good luck with your PDT SAC - I'm sure you'll ace it! Congrats on methods btw - you should be super proud! Good luck with your English SAC - boy do you have a whole lot of SACs coming up!
That chem thing scares me too - not being able to go back???!!!! :0 But I'm sure you'll do well. Everyone's in the same boat, so give it your best shot and good results will find its way to you!
Have a great week, and good luck with everything :)
Hey Ash,Hey Choco! ;D Thanks for stopping by to read this
Thanks for the update :) Congrats with the physics and YES, go for that 100%, we believe in you! Art block would suck but I know you'll get there soon and it will be aMaZInG, can't wait to see more of the folio.
Good luck with your many sacs. Sounds like a busy week but I know you'll ace it 8)
Hello Ashmi! Yay, another update! 😁Hey Evolio!😄
CONGRATULATIONS on that Physics SAC Mark! That's a fantastic score!
Looks like you have a lot of SACs but I know you're going to do amazing on them!
Have a nice day and looking forward to the next update! 😊
I can kiss that 40 study score good bye now. It's official. No, you will NOT kiss that 40 ss a goodbye. You will persevere, you CAN do this. It's never too late to improve. The people who truly fail are the ones who give up after their failures, not realising how close they were to success. Please, don't give up! I'm rooting for you :D
I did so badly in that Argument Analysis SAC. Poor expression, terrible analysis and much worse than any of the practise essays I wrote in the past. I'm definitely not get 90%, let alone 80%.As long as you learn from your SAC and don't do it again, you will be fine on the exam. I know exactly how you feel - you KNOW you could have done better because you have done better, but you just can't reproduce it in the actual thing. But, do not lose hope! Do well on your other SACs and you most definitely can mitigate a 'bludge' SAC score. Also, I'm sure you didn't do as bad as you think, and even if you did, it's all a learning experience. Don't think too much of it. Everything I said was very hypocritical, but saying it made me realise how much time I wasted mourning a very poor English SAC score. Don't do the same! Find your mistakes, fix them, and move on. If it's not doing well on a SAC - why is this? Why could I not write an essay of the same quality as before - stress, mind blanks...? If you can identify it, you're halfway through fixing it. I believe in you ashmi, and I believe we can both do well in English if we put our mind to it. We CAN, so we WILL. I'll hold you up to that 40+ ;)
This is literally me trying to do PDT and Physics but thinking about English.Love the Pingu reference, once again. I think I tangentially recall the specific episode when Pingu was angrily making that card...
Got my creative SAC mark the other day and it looks like 100%!You're dedicated, a hard worker and I know it'll pay off in the end. Persistence is key and we believe in you!

Also, congratulations on that envious methods mark! It is definitely something you should celebrate at one point or another :)
Plus it is just one SAC, so hopefully if we both don't screw up the others too much we will be okay :)Thank you geoo! ;D
Don't let your english score bring down that awesome methods achievement (Can i please borrow your skills?). That's a fantastic mark, and you should 100% be proud of it.
Enjoy the upcoming weekend, and try not to be so hard on yourself.
No. English will not bring you down. You CAN DO IT!!Pingu is officially my life now and no one can tell me otherwise😂.
In all seriousness, pleaseeeeeee dont let one score get you down - its so normal to have an 'off' day, and I think we all that with English! You will persevere and I'm totally sure you will achieve your goals in this subject - keep at it!!
And super congrats on that Methods score!! Yay!!
Gotta love physics and creative subjects after english ha ha - also that pingu reference is everything lol.
:D
As already said ^^ you've got this Ash! I totally understand how it feels right now, always sitting in the back of your mind, but it will get easier after a couple of days! As whys said, I'm sure you did better than you think (it's so easy to be super critical of your work) and getting a "bad" mark on one sac DOES NOT mean your english study score is doomed, plus remember this You're dedicated, a hard worker and I know it'll pay off in the end. Persistence is key and we believe in you!Oh my lord Choco, I completely forgot that SAC score from the other term actually exists😂. (Thank the lords of creative writing)
Besides that, congrats on the methods result 8)
So we are just finishing off fields right now and our SAC is quite soon so that means I'll be spamming practise questions like there is no tomorrow. I really like Physics and this is really one of the only subjects that I want to study no matter what the scenario is. I can't seem to get bored and there is so many things to learn about (like my lord Gauss and Biot-Savart laws are so cool yet they are not in the study design).Hey ashmi! It's great you're liking physics a lot :D. Physics to you is like bio to me right now haha. There's just so much interesting stuff to learn and it's impossible to be bored!
Either way, this electrolysis/redox sac went well and I'm sort of happy with the results. Could have been better but it's an improvement from the Fuels sac so I'll take it!Congratulations! It's always a good feeling to know you've done well on a SAC.
Methods. Hey bro. Thank you for not slaughtering me yet. Let's keep it this way for a little longer please?Haha. It's great you're enjoying methods! It is a pretty chill subject. 8) Also, memes in your bound reference? YES! Thanks for giving me that great idea - now my bound reference is going to become a meme fest.
I don't want my Argument Analysis sac to come. Stay away from me English, please let me enjoy text response in peace.I'm the exact opposite! :D I hate text response and would take AA any day. But I mean I really don't like English in general anyway... so I'm one to talk...
Also to add onto this personal update, I've started to look a bit more into future courses to study and with the BSci + Masters engineering combo at MelbUni, I'm also somewhat interested in their BSci + Masters Teaching combo? I don't really know why, but there is like a weird aura drawing me towards it. I've also started looking at different pathways and readjusting goals (cause I might be a tad bit unrealistic with my ATAR goal and my own abilities).I love those costume ideas - can't wait to see what you end up making! And it's great you're becoming clearer regarding what you want to do in uni. I wholeheartedly believe in you! You can definitely achieve your ATAR goal if you put your mind to it.That doesn't mean I'll stop aiming for that 96 (which would take a miracle).
I love your bound reference!!!! I wish I could use it for my methods sac in two weeks :( is yours coming up soon? Glad to hear the Chem sac went great! My teachers are also reluctant to release averages for some reason......I wonder what will happen with validation tasks.
Hey ashmi! It's great you're liking physics a lot :D. Physics to you is like bio to me right now haha. There's just so much interesting stuff to learn and it's impossible to be bored!Hey hey whys!! ;D
Congratulations! It's always a good feeling to know you've done well on a SAC.

✰Physics✰Awesome to see that you are destroying Fizix, you are going to do absolutely amazing in this subject!
Oh boi it's you again! MY SAVIOUR! MUHAHAHAHAHA
So we are just finishing off fields right now and our SAC is quite soon so that means I'll be spamming practise questions like there is no tomorrow. I really like Physics and this is really one of the only subjects that I want to study no matter what the scenario is. I can't seem to get bored and there is so many things to learn about (like my lord Gauss and Biot-Savart laws are so cool yet they are not in the study design).
✰Methods✰I know what you mean about methods, I just want some stupidly hard questions to get me working because I worry that I may become complacent. And memes in your bound reference is quite interesting!
I want to be pulverised in this subject just like Physics does to me because it's becoming quite problematic as I feel like I'm not being challenged enough? Like I'm never on edge and it's hard to make extended response questions for Methods in comparison to Physics?
On a plus side, I started making my final bound reference! My goal for this BR (as the same with Further) is to give me some company during the exam just in case I start panicking so I think the appropriate thing to do is drumroll please:
*drumroll*SpoilerADD MEMES!
That's right, this bound reference is going to be MEMES WONDERLAND!
YES YES! Couldn't agree moreincoming 50 I reckon;D ;D
Awesome to see that you are destroying Fizix, you are going to do absolutely amazing in this subject!incoming 50 I reckon;D ;D
YES YES! Couldn't agree moreI don't know what planet or frame of reference you guys are looking from🤣
omg it's an ashmi update!
I know what you mean about methods, I just want some stupidly hard questions to get me working because I worry that I may become complacent. And memes in your bound reference is quite interesting!over here having not even started my bound reference oops:oSpoilerHoly cow, your cosplay is ridiculously good! That's so awesome that you got onto a website, you really deserve it! :)
Also, it's good you're continuing to explore your career options. Best of luck with whatever you choose to do, I believe in you! :)
Thanks for the update and good luck for your upcoming SACs!
Incredible ash! Wow wow wow, your cosplay ideas look amazing can't wait for them to come to life! I'm actually in love with your style. As a person who has been oblivious to cosplay pretty much my entire life, I love looking at your unique ideas and photos! So talented ;D
Congrats on your chemistry sac!!!! ;D Very well deserved as I know you have been putting a lot of work in (Is it combined with the fuels sac or separate ones for Unit 3)? 8)
Also, super cool that you know where you want to head with uni and have been doing some more research into courses. I look forward to seeing where you end up after high school, wherever it is I know it will be amazing!
Have an awesome weekend ashmi
✰Update: 24/05✰Hey ashmi, great to see another update from you before we head back to school! :) Are you looking forward to the recommencement of classes on campus, or are there some things that you will miss?
Hey everyone! I'm back again for another update. (After quite a lengthy period of time).
✰My sweetheart Physics✰Awesome to see you are absolutely smashing Physics, isn't it so amazing when a subject doesn't feel like work at all! Keep it up, you are definitely going to reap the rewards! :)
✰Draw till you drop PDT✰Great job on your SAC, I'm sure you shredded that boi to pieces. Best of luck with your folio, I can't wait to see how it turns out!
Hey whys, TigerMum, Geoo, Sine, CM, Evolio and ArtyDreams! Thank you for your positivity and your logical/emotional support❤️. I barely know any of you, but here you are taking the time to read one of the messiest journals on AN and still type up a response and I really can't thank you all enough.whys🦁:Hello whys!
Welcome back to this mess of a journal where I expose my vulnerable thoughts to the anonymous people of the internet.
I love the board game analogy you used! I just wished that I could play for the sake of learning and lose without getting stepped on by those who shove their expectation onto me...
I just wished I could enjoy learning with no strings attached, is that too much to ask? (Maybe this is why I like Physics, cause there is no catch)
I try to ignore certain teachers, but it can be very hard when your locker is right next to the Further office (Thankfully my locker is getting moved due to corona spacing issues; a miracle has happened yay)
Thank you for the straightforward and supportive words whys and I hope you have a great week when you go back to school!TigerMum🐅:First off my bro TigerMum, why on earth were you awake at that hour of the night? Teach me your ways.
Definitely going to miss the sleeping in and the amount of extra time available! The main thing I'm looking forward too, is giving my eyes a break from looking at the computer screen too much and the science experiments.
Thank you so much for your supportive words and the offer to chat. 🥺🥺🥺It's reassuring to hear that someone else has similar issues with comparing (man I thought it was just another one of my whack thoughts).
Hope you have a lovely week TigerMum and have fun at school!Geoo🎂:Yo yo yo it's my tech buddy Geoo!!😃
When I say handing it in, it means finishing off what we call the first 3 criteria's out of 10! Usually criteria 5 - 9 will be making the product and the criteria's before and after is theory for it. I think my official folio handing in date where everything has to be done is the first week of September?
Geoo, we must be living parallel lives or something. I actually did think I was alone in my train of thought till I read your story, and I've got to say, I think we may be the same person but in different dimensions. You are so inspirational Geoo with your dedication to your subjects that I'm starting to feel motivated?? Either way, thank you for sharing your perspective of your story and good luck for the first week back!Sine💿:Hi Sine!
I honestly feel much better after reading your comment, its a logical approach and perspective, something that I needed to hear. I really did think this thought process would go away a long time ago, and I'm just really frustrated that it's still with me in May, the middle of the year...
Eitherway, thank you so much for taking the time to write your reply up!😊Choco 🍫:Hey hey Choco!😃
I think I need to whip out an Uno Reverse Card here cause I gotta say YOU were so inspirational to me when you popped up on AN! I feel 10000000% more motivated now after reading what you had to say. Thank you for understanding Choco and I'll try to pick up some hobbies again.🥺 (Yes having a folio due in two weeks is a struggle as it will probably smash me to bits but not without me smashing it first 🤣)
Thank you so so much Choco and have a fab week!Evolio 🐘:Hey Evolio! Thank you for stopping by to this chaotic mess.
Also, thank you for sharing your own feelings of the same issue. It really does suck to feel all down and all, but they way you put it makes it seem more bearable? You are so hardworking yourself and a total inspiration to me. 😭(I will be the one with the pom poms cheering you on!)
Thank you Evolio for taking the time to write up a reply and have a great week!ArtyDreams🐨:Yay it's ma Physics buddy Arty!
I hope your folio is going well Arty and that you have been doing great yourself!
I think you may have just summed up my whole problem in a nutshell... I've never thought about it in that way till you have mentioned it. You are definitely right with the 'doubt' bit and it's something that I don't think I've been able to fix this year. Thank you Arty for the kind words and I shall somehow get out of the hole! (Well assuming my escape velocity doesn't exceed the speed of light)
✰Update: 8/06✰YAYYYYYYYYYYYY an update! I'm glad you are getting back into the swing of things and figured out what you want to do with your life, you will not only make it but smash it too ash!
I've also decided after the Physics exam (24th Nov), I am shredding everything relating to VCE (unless I can sell it or someone wants it) and starting FRESH.i've already started the countdown for you lmao. i bet that first night's sleep after everything is cleared and clean will be the best you've had ahahah can't wait to do the same thing next year tbh
✰Physics✰Yay! I am so happy that this subject is going well for you! Your love for physics definitely shines through this journey and I know you will do so well!
I don't actually have much to say for this subject other than the fact it's going great! Our SAC is like Methods, the first week back of next term on Induction. I'm not feeling super prepared right now so my aim this week is to finish off some exam-style questions and then try to fully understand the concepts and how they are applicable in real life. I've also started a few weeks ago my big Unit 3 exam booklet which I'm hoping to get done by the end of the holidays.
✰PDT✰A folio of 45 pages! That is so much omg! Legit so proud ash🥰🥰
On Tuesday, I handed in one of the biggest folios I've ever made in my life. I think just for the first 3 criteria I had over 45 pages and that doesn't seem like a lot till you look at the folio. I am super happy that is done. That mini-thesis has been on my mind for a good 6 months and it feels so nice for it to leave. Next week, we are working on working drawings and production planning so we can start making our product next term! I've also started doing exam revision for this subject because content-heavy stuff like this is my biggest weakness and will definitely be a subject I need to put a decent amount of effort into.
✰Methods✰YAY WE LOVE WHEN METHODS GOES WELL hahahahaha. Good luck for your SAC, I know you can do it and making your own SAC is so dedicated and I didn't even think or that (I wouldn't have been bothered to either haha I'm so lazy)
Methods is going GUCCI!
We have our SAC first week back of next term, and I think this is one of those subjects I have under control for once. I'm just going to finish off some exam questions and try finding some harder extended response questions. I might also make my own mini prac SAC to see if I really understand what I'm doing.
ashmi!! always so good to see your updates!
PDT sounds so exciting!!! 45 pages of a portfolio seems like so much to me, I'm so proud of you for smashing through it! really can't wait to see everything you come up with next term ;D
regarding uni - if your careers counsellor isn't that helpful I'm guessing that the unis themselves could help you with your questions about pathways. from what I've seen, RMIT are pretty supportive with pathways and their online help service could possibly answer some of your questions. maybe try reaching out to Melbourne's student support as well? also, I'm sure asking around in the uni chat here on AN could help a lot.
i've already started the countdown for you lmao. i bet that first night's sleep after everything is cleared and clean will be the best you've had ahahah can't wait to do the same thing next year tbh
holidays is so soon, make sure you enjoy your well deserved break! <3
Yay! I am so happy that this subject is going well for you! Your love for physics definitely shines through this journey and I know you will do so well!
A folio of 45 pages! That is so much omg! Legit so proud ash🥰🥰
YAY WE LOVE WHEN METHODS GOES WELL hahahahaha. Good luck for your SAC, I know you can do it and making your own SAC is so dedicated and I didn't even think or that (I wouldn't have been bothered to either haha I'm so lazy)Have a great week Ash!SpoilerI know VCE is hard, but I am so certain that you will achieve what you want! Even if you don't get them (which isn't going to happen because you are so damn smart and hardworking, there is always other options and I am sure that you will get to where you want to study.
Random, but I am also heavily considering a bachelor of science with grad pack at Melb Uni so twinnies😆 *prays for anywhere near the 98 atar for physio that ain't gonna happen lmao
Also, I completely get what you mean by wanting a fresh start after VCE. VCE is tough, very tough, and I know you can do it. Having the excitement of a massive shopping spree could legit get me through anything and I pretty sure you feel the same ;)
Wow your doing so many exams....I feel like I’ve already wasted time learning today! I thought I’d do 15 in total for a subject but your doing that this soon, your bound to ace all your subjects!!!!!!!!Hey Elle!
Also completely understand hating memorising organic Chem :( is it just reaction pathways your memorising? I tried so hard not to memorise them and I’m not sure if I learnt or memorise in the end but HEY the SACs over.
And oh my gosh rear window! I did that as text response and yeah this movie seems....how can I put this....dry? Like the movies great BUT there’s no thing I can personally connect to like how do I knowwhy Hitchcock chose a mysoginistic character to violate privacyauthorial intent?
Enjoy your holidays ashmi!! 😊
Physics isn't my friend right now.Aww that sucks, but hopefully you'll be back to being best friends with physics in no time! I remember when I did electricity and electromagnetism in unit 1, and it was something that I really couldn't rap my head around. More so magnetism than electricity (I think it came from confusion with my chem knowledge when I couldn't understand how electrons could move out of their fixed electron shells, in order for them to move to create a flow of electrons to generate electricity...). Anyway I wish you luck on your SAC, i'm sure you'll do great! Out of interest, what is your favourite area of physics that you have studied? For me it was nuclear, particle and astrophysics, which aren't in unit 3/4 if my knowledge is correct (it was a reason why I didn't want to continue on).
Insert angry Pingu. You need to get your sleep! Especially now that school is nearing and we have to wake up earlier (at least I do) it's super-duper important that you stick to a (somewhat) consistent sleep schedule.(I am so sorry Evolio and whys. I'm the world's biggest hypocrite)
✰Physics✰Hey Ash! You can do this. I love your passion for physics (wish I had a passion like that). Also I can so relate to the Ashmi vs Electricity series, that's the same as Eloise vs Methods hahaha. Let's hope we both win :)!
Got a SAC this Friday and I'm not feeling good. Physics isn't my friend right now and there are just so many things to do but so little time. So our SAC is on electromagnetic induction + electricity which I must say is a fantastic topic, however, I make so many little mistakes when it comes to transmission of electricity. Putting that all aside, I love the content in Physics and yes there may be tricky things here and there, but I absolutely love the challenge! 😎 (And then being absolutely crushed and trying again).
*Ashmi vs Electricity. Stay tuned to see who wins*
✰Methods✰You can do it ashmi! Two Methods SACs is a lot but I know you are able to do it. I am very glad you are looking forward to probability, hahaha I could only wish. I am dreading it :'( :'(
I have double-the-trouble Methods SACs this Thursday and next Monday. I'm feeling super good haha.
The objective is to get through as many questions as I physically can and make sure that while I'm at it I finish a few exams in my big exam bundle sitting on my desk. After these two SACs we are moving straight onto probability wooohoo!!
Seems like NYSF is a great program and I am seriously considering at least applying for it. I am really sad that my French Exchange isn't going ahead due to COVID but hopefully domestic travel will go ahead and the NYSF can go ahead in January :)That's a wrap for this journal update! Hope to see you guys sometime soon ;D. For the Yr 11/12s, hope you have a good first day tomorrow!Mini reflection of NYSF?This is just for my own personal reference for when I reread this whole journal again at the end of the year. Maybe best you skipped it cause it's one lengthy read!SpoilerMan, you really want to read what's in this spoiler, don't you?SpoilerNice try you are going to have to keep clicking moreSpoilerOk this is the last one before I jump straight into the NYSF train ride.Spoiler*It's not negativity for once WOOOHOOO!*
It's been 6 months since NYSF has ended. To those that have no clue what NYSF is, think of it as a selective nerd science camp with some of the most beautiful people you will ever meet + disco style.
I have never hit rock bottom as hard as I have this week. Not demotivated rock bottom, but like an emotional nostalgia rock bottom. When I first heard about NYSF, I thought it was just an average science camp, and when I was picking interest groups, I was sort of interested in engineering so I picked that. What I didn't know was that this engineering group (we were called Newton haha) would give and teach me so...much.
Many things happened from 12:36am evacuation from ANU (bushfire smoke getting into the building), late night disco parties, very competitive science competitions, toothbrush parties, singing for no reason in the dining hall, the riddles that would never stop, running around like lunatics in a shopping centre, bombarding QuEsTaCoN, Formal 2.0, the many science lectures and even the Newton's dressing up as the bachelor/bachelorettes and somehow winning best group.
The main highlight of this program was the people. Now, the Newton group I was in, the other 11 people in it were the most down to earth people I've ever met in my life. I still don't know how I was able to be a part of this, how out of the 1700 people that applied, I somehow managed to slip past and sometimes my mind wanders off and I think to myself "how did someone like me manage to get this opportunity?". I'm nothing special, but man I got lucky, real lucky.
We may have had our program cut short to only 7 days, but to me, those were the best 7 days I've had in my life to date.
Ok, so that happened and for the past week I've been catching up with my close buddies to see how they are going, and nostalgia hit me like a truck. This week has been filled with NYSF webinars which I must say were amazing and finally being able to all come together to see each other's faces has definitely been a highlight of these holidays. The one thing I'm really looking forward to the fact a lot of people from my interest group is planning to study in Melbourne next year! I am SO looking forward to seeing them all in person again and it's definitely something I'm excited to see at the end of this tunnel, the VCE journey.
So what's the goal now? Get out of VCE with that 85 ATAR!96 if I sacrifice myself to VCAAI am going to make sure I get to the end of this year alive!!!I need to seriously flush this negativity down the drain
Aww that sucks, but hopefully you'll be back to being best friends with physics in no time! Good luck with the sewing piece I can't wait to see it! I think that's the hard bit about portfolio subjects, all the time it takes to work on the pieces!
I know the feeling when it comes to memorising. It's so nice to just understand and apply, which I think a decent chunk of chem is, but the organic chem with all the memorisation, especially in unit 4 course work it's crazy. It makes me wonder how I was able to get through bio..... If I could, I'd give you an SD card for your brain! Good luck, and I hope your first week back is great, and go smash those SACs!
Hey ashmi! God, if only term 3 WASN'T filled with SACs... (how nice would that be!)Hey hey whys! 🥰🥰
Like Geeo has said, I hope you and fiziks become best friends soon.
Insert angry Pingu. You need to get your sleep! Especially now that school is nearing and we have to wake up earlier (at least I do) it's super-duper important that you stick to a (somewhat) consistent sleep schedule.
Anyhow, I'm so glad you finally updated. You seem absolutely on track for methods (oh, how I wish I could say the same!), and I'm sure you'll smash your SACs. Good luck! And your mood with English is my mood with English exactly. I wish I just didn't do English. Thinking about a world without having to write annoying essays over and over seems like bliss. Anyways, that's an alternate reality that will never come true. :'( In fact, I've got my notebook open in front of my laptop with a half-written essay staring right back at me... (yep, I'm going to keep procrastinating actually finishing writing this).
PDT seems so cool! I could never do a folio subject haha, it's so much time and effort! I seriously commend you for keeping up in the first place, let alone actually doing well. You've got this - I believe you'll do really well in PDT. Also chem is a mood - I like it but I suck at it and I put no time into studying it. So, at least you do that. :P Only 2 more terms of chem, then you're free!
Also - NYSF seems super cool, and you make me wish I had applied back then as well! It's great you'll be able to catch up with your friends once all the restrictions ease completely (whenever that will be). I also definitely reckon you can get a 96 ATAR! You've got this Ash. 8)
Hey Ash! You can do this. I love your passion for physics (wish I had a passion like that). Also I can so relate to the Ashmi vs Electricity series, that's the same as Eloise vs Methods hahaha. Let's hope we both win :)!

✰Mini-Update: 1/07✰
Current Mood:
✧I have desperately tried and failed to explain to a friend for 2 days straight the story of the game Kingdom Hearts (I would be surprised if someone knew this🤣). The one thing I could explain was the 'Persona' series and I tried to explain 'Final Fantasy' but that was just as bad as KH.
YAYYYYY I love an ashmi update!!!
Like everyone has said before..........Physics will make up with you in no time. I seriously admire your passion for this subject so so so so so much and I wish I could say the same! I'm so positive you will reach all your goals in this subject, because having a strong passion for something makes everything so much easier!!
I wish you the BESTTTTTT of luck in Methods and Eng - Eng is such a drag but I'm sure you'll be fine!! And yay! I'm glad methods is wokring for you!!
Ahhhhh the dreaded folio subject - we love it and hate it so much - but so rewarding. I'm sending you all my artistic powers and I;m sure you'll get your costume done in time!! I'm so excited to see your finished outcome!!
**sending you a magic chemical potion to make you love chemmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyy**
Awesome update Ash and have an awesome first week back of term!!
I haven't seen the DLC stuff for KH3 and only know part of the KHUx story line (and none of dark roads) but aside from that I get KH.We are exactly the same with this point because the stuff you haven't seen is the stuff I've also haven't seen🤣. (My plan after exams is to catch up on everything because I'm so behind. I've only seen a bit of gameplay from others here and there for those ones you've mentioned)
✰Update: 8/06✰
Hey AN! I think this is the first time I haven't gone on AN in two weeks... (Catching up with the amazing journals on here has been super hard). Life has gotten in the way and I've been overwhelmed by everything but I'm back with another journal update! 8)
(https://i.imgur.com/uokDj6a.gif)Songs of this journal update goes to:I couldn't decide on one🤣
✰I live in my school's Physics room✰
So on the first day back at school, the very first place I went to was the Physics room. That's right, I bypassed food and my locker for the physics room. 100% worth it.
We have been learning electromagnetism and induction (AOS 2) and there was something I got really fascinated about. Mother nature doesn't like change and creates a "force" (not exactly a force but for simplicity) to oppose changes in magnetic flux, so I thought, hmmmm how can I use this to my advantage? Well after seeing an experiment with a metal ring go flying because of this idea I was like, YO LET'S MAKE SOMETHING THAT SHOOTS SOMETHING. (My inner gamer coming out here)
And thus, for the past two weeks of my life, I've been trying to construct this device that whenever I change something, I can project something metallic. It wasn't until last Friday where my Physics teacher explained that it looked like I was trying to make a railgun...
So yeah, long story short I've been trying to make a small scaled railgun and shoot random things with it.
Other than that, I've gone completely off topic with the VCE course and was like" I wanna learn rotational mechanics" so that's where I've been.... I know what I'm about to say sounds really lame, but now I can spin a bicycle wheel and tell you what's going on.😂
We have a SAC next term on electrical power which is a big relief (less to worry about) and so far so good!
✰Chemy Chemy Chem Chem✰
Had a SAC afterschool last Thursday. Didn't go as well as I wanted but I'm glad it's over and that means moving onto the Scientific Investigation! I'm relieved to finally have that SAC off my mind and move onto other more important things and hopefully improve in the future! Someone remind me why I picked this subject again? I needed Spesh maths more than this...
✰CAS has entered the chat✰
HELLO MY LITTLE CAS BABY WHAT'S UP?
So our official Methods SAC has been moved?? To next term??? WHAT?
We have just been having tests here and there but nothing official. I really have no clue what's going on but will update when I know something. There is one thing I do know though and that is the fact I have another Methods Test in 2 weeks. Fun times! Other than that, things seem to be going smoothly.
✰Drawing? What's that? PDT✰
Hahahahaha.... Hey mate. Long time no see.
So let's start with that 70 mark SAC I had the other day. Ya girl over here somehow managed to get full marks and I still don't know how but WOOHOOO I'll take it! So yes, after my mini celebration I got back onto drawing design options. My folio got checked last week and so far was so good! Now, I just have to finalise everything so I can start on working drawings soon.Spoiler(https://i.imgur.com/tQljlqc.png)
Some drawings I've been working on recently. One of them may actually be the real thing I make UwU
✰Yo Rear Window English✰
I'm not going to even comment on this subject cause nothing is happening. I'm not joking this subject is so boring and I can't even engage with it. I want it to disappear ASAP but then again I know I need to do well or I'm screwed. I'm really hoping I can bring up my average after that A.A SAC so at least I can stand a chance at end of year exams. That's it for today's update! I have started sewing some costumes and I'm hoping to do some more crafty stuff this weekend (Might show a pic of the product when it's done too) ;DLife/Goals and you name it mini-update:So a lot has happened since I've been off AN. Let's talk positive though.
I think the first big thing is that now, I now firmly know what I wanna do in 2021. I want to study electrical engineering, and that is final. Turns out that my Physics teacher is an E.E and after talking to him, something sort of "clicked" in me, something felt "right". I can't describe this feeling but after feeling lost for a long time, this is it, I have finally found it. I have a goal and my lord it feels good to know there is something to chase after.
So YAS that's the good bits. Moving onto the more shocking realisation bits. Hahaha... I just looked at the VTAC statistics for the courses I'm considering, and both look quite...daunting?
I mean looking at the UniMelb Bachelor Sci/Masters Eng was already terrifying enough with its median being 98.15 but then I looked at the BSci and median 91.85... I'm scared, it looks tough.
Other than that, I've finally gotten back onto my feet after what seems forever and I'm ready to tackle the challenge once again. I need to keep going forward and that's exactly what I'm gonna do! I am not looking back now and I've got my eyes staring straight ahead. I'm going to drag myself over to my goal even if it kills me. I am getting there slowly and I'm trying but I WILL get there. I AM GOING TO MAKE IT...somehowOk that sounds so cheesySomething good happened today, I got another tutoring job for Further! I'm really happy to be teaching as it forces me to be social and actually communicate which is a plus! There is something I love about teaching others... not sure what it is though. Might find that out in the future.Spoiler*Make way negative Ashmi coming through*
Personal life-wise, everything has been a bloody mess, especially in the past few weeks.
I think the one thing I can talk about which isn't dark in this journal though, is the idea that for the past few days, my parents have been trying to stop me from studying something STEM-related? They know I hate finance and business yet no matter how much I say no, they are very... persistent. Yeah, that's the best word for this scenario. Persistent.
I've tried reasoning with them multiple times, but it seems they don't want to accept what I'm saying? I'm paying for my course anyway so I don't know why you guys are angry? I think I sort of got the idea with what they were saying when it comes to 'good paying', but I'm not really all about the money? I more about the enjoyment and being happy concept? I think it will go away with a bit of time and they are going to have to accept it anyway cause these science/maths subjects makes me happy.
This journal itself has also become my "recovery mechanism". It holds no other purpose than to stop me from going insane, and so far, it has stopped me countless times from falling too deep. I'm grateful that somewhere on the internet, I can write and write and write without no one ever finding out who I really am. Maybe it's the idea that on here, I don't need to be an illusionist. One day, this journal might help someone out, but in the meantime, it's here to talk about the weird, wonderful and the wild stuff.
OKI DOKI LEMME MOVE ON BRO.
Goals for now:
> Get into at least BSci at MelbUni (and be the first person on my Dad's side to have a tertiary education whoop whoop! Even better the BSci + Masters Eng)
> Smash some Physics Unit 3 exams
> Get PDT together and mass print folio out.
> Go to Muji and treat myself for once.
> Start studying like wildfire to make sure PDT doesn't swallow me whole for my other subjects.
> Just hope that I've done enough to get me to that next step in life.
okay first, I saw Haikyuu and my heart literally dropped wuwuwu so cuteeee, i love the gifs you have damn you got some treasure and!!! congrats for SAC?!! I'm so happy for you woop woop and even though 91 seems so far, I totally already believe in you and it sounds like you're uber into physics so I know you're totally gonna get it !!! go! go! let go! lets go! aSH-mi!!! (used the date kou chant!)Hey Fluffysama!!
Where on earth have I been?Wow! This transition would have been hard (especially since it happened so quickly). (I can't even imagine being a student who chose to do a folio subject and then not having access to a folio). Have you got all your PDT stuff at home though? How's the final going (like how long to go?) I'm super excited to see pictures.
First things first, corona. My school got shut down last week. We got a notification about 1am on Monday morning where we were told to not come to school. If I didn't check my phone before I left for the station (had a SAC scheduled period 1), I would have caused myself a whole pack of trouble. So yeah, we were in remote learning before the big news today happened. Contact tracing is still going on in the background and it seems like a Yr 12 student has contracted the virus. At my school, many of my classmates aren't coping well (especially since lots of people left stuff in their lockers) and the art/tech students have been hit quite badly cause no one can finish making their projects or their folios are stranded at school (the amount of tears is unreal).
When I first read NLMG I didn't have too much interest in it, however today I decided to watch the film. As soon as the end credits started rolling though, I juts sat there in silence, thinking and thinking.
I have never had so many piercing questions flooding my mind all at once.
"What does it truly mean to be human?"
"Where do I draw the line between what is morally right and wrong?"
"What is being 'humane'?"
"How far does one have to go to prove their have a soul?"
Very weird feelings and questions everywhere but either way, I'm excited to be writing some essays on this book!
hi ashmi! it's good to see your journal pop up again!!Hey hey Jeyda!!also i may or may not have turned on the notifs for this journal but that will remain a mystery
the way you've described NLMG seems super interesting, i might have to check it out even though i'm not studying it!SpoilerWith vtac/uni stuff, I'm so certain that whatever you choose to do, you can do it. And hey, I think learning is a lifelong process. Whether you choose engineering or teaching at first, that doesn't mean you can't do the other at some point down the track. On another note, I'm so sorry to hear about your family, I really wish you guys the best through these tough ass times. It sucks, it couldn't suck any more than it does, but even if it feels like rock bottom, things can only go up from here, right? Reaching out is so important and I really am proud of you for making that decision, I know it probably wasn't too easy. My pm's on AN and insta are always open for a chat <3
good luck for your chem and physics sacs, do your best and it'll be over and done with before you know it !!! (:
looking forward to ur next update !!!!
Hi ashmi ;DHey Potato!
You have no idea how fast I clicked when I saw your update ahahah
Reading your passion for teaching was so inspiring!SpoilerI'm really really sorry to hear this about your family. AN is here for you and feel free to pm me if you ever want to chat
All the best for your sacs coming up! I have faith in you!
Hey Ash! Sooo loving your updates! <3 <3Hey Colline!
Just regarding VTAC, I'm not sure if you know this but UniMelb's graduate degree packages are really flexible and getting an offer into say, B Science / M Engineering doesn't immediately lock you into that pathway. Your 3-year BSci would still be the same as someone in the standard BSci course, and at the end you'll have the option to continue into Master of Engineering, or another postgrad degree, or honours, or straight up graduate and go into the workforce. The 2 courses are completely separate. So I would recommend still keeping Science/Engineering or Science/Teaching (or both) in your VTAC preferences, because it wouldn't impact your BSci at all and you still have the option to go into different pathways if you change your mind. Basically, you have nothing to lose from including either or both in your preferences, but you do get a nice guarantee and a peace of mind if you get in.
Idk if my explanation made sense hahah. ;D
And massive congrats on getting onto the interview committee of NYSF! Keep us updated!
Hey aprimogenitor! ;D
This made me smile :)
I get happy whenever people start thinking about those things because I think they're more important than anything haha.
Nice journal, I'll bookmark and come back some other time to see if you updated. I hope COVID has not been too harsh on you, and I'm sorry for any pain it has caused you.
This is a beautiful community created around someone (you) posting journal updates.
Thanks, I got many smiles from the numerous updates I read.
Good luck and all the best, I can tell you're an amazing person (from your journal) :) I hope the people lucky enough to have you in their lives are aware of that :)
Also: Good luck on the GAT! I'm sure you'll smash it! hahaha seriously though :)
This is definitely the hardest subject to study for. Right now it is either going to be a hit or a miss.I seriously agree with this one. Really wish my folio subject was like maths so I could spam practise questions and feel prepared. I hate that exams are used to moderate our folios - like seriously. They are two completely different things! I'm positive you'll do fine though!! Have you checked out some company exams for PDT? I'm pretty sure most have updated to the 2020 study design :)
UNIT 4 SUCKSOMG. I pretty much said this in my last journal post. Especially AOS1. It was horrible. I seriously hate everything about waves!! WHy did unit 4 have to exist.
OH AND OMG I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE PHYSIC TRIAL EXAMS COMING UP!!! Apparently my teacher is gonna use exams that he did back in high school on us for one of the trials and YOU KNOW HOW PUMPED I AM TO SEE THEM????You passion for physics will forever inspire me.
I cannot even begin to describe how excited I am to try some nice spicy physics questions that are not just boring repeats of VCAA.
See above. Just handed in my folio 3 hours ago and I am DEAD inside. One year of hard work accumulated into a weird looking product and a big fat folio. My hands were literally shaking when I handed it in. I am very relieved that it is over and now I can focus on the exam. You are INCREDIBLE! I'm so proud you did it! I can't imagine the stress of trying to complete a folio during confinement without easy teacher guidance or materials but yours is incredible regardless! A massive massive congratulations Ash ;D ;D and pleASE send me a picture of your final, I'd love to see it
Did a trial the other day and did pretty well for my first timed exam [I think it was mainly luck though]. I lost about 7 marks in total but I'm hoping to shrink that down to 0 as time goes on. I'm not going to lie, but I was a bit upset first with the score [stop inner competitive Further get your butt out of Physics please. This is not your subject and I don't want you here] but then I realised that it is the first exam and there is definitely time for improvement! So after that little scenario your girl here is back in action. She is READY to be smashing some papers ~with style~. *fist bumps the air*Only losing 7 marks on your first exam! That's amazing (and I'm actually in awe). Whilst I'm not entirely sure, I don't think the marking is as strict as further, so losing a few marks can still yield VERY high scores 8)
Oh yeah I probably should add that yesterday I got my results back from the trial exam [they were externally marked by VCAA examiners OH NO] and I thought I did badly but I ended up doing extremely well? I have been struggling with this subject all year and when I saw those scores, I nearly fainted on the spot. I am so happy and this has given me more motivation to write more essays! This is awesome and proves you are going to do so well in english (almost there!) Your texts sound really interesting as well. Guessing your favourite section is the comparative?
Chem has definitely not been a good friend. She is very boring [COUGH Food Chem COUGH]. The only fun thing in the whole Chem course for me is Redox... I wish I could chuck Unit 4 Chem into a massive hole, bury it and never look at it again.Well, um, this is a little offensive... Unit 4 chem is the ORGANIC stuff and I'm frankly quite uninspired by your prejudice towards it... ???
Please check on your folio buddies because art/tech subjects during a pandemic is NOT a good idea.*looks at subject selection list. sees vcd. has flashbacks to ashmi's echoing words...*
First of all I'm sorry if you found it offensive. 😭 I didn't mean it in a bad way.😖🥺Gosh I was totally joking (and everyone likes different things which is why AN is so cool) - also I feel like your brain is more wired towards the mathematics of chemistry? but yeah the organic chem stuff is more similar to bio. I kind of understand where you're going though, I mean sometimes the lack of depth in VCE or the fact that they only skim the surface of certain topics can be annoying (although I had the same problem with electrolysis, which you probably didn't have because of your physics background - I was so confused between the difference between voltage and current and my teacher just could not explain it at all.)
The main reason I find Unit 4 to be bland is the fact it is not really hands on. It is sort of hard to explain, but in Unit 3, most of the concepts were things you could do experiments on [fuels, redox, electrolysis etc] and I think the word I'm looking for here is "physical"?
I also find it a little bit sad that you can't always go right down to the very bottom of something. It is not like maths where I can fall back on first principles [which is why I like unit 3 because this happens], but for Unit 4, there is a lot of memorisation and we don't really know why for some of the things? For example, the catalysts used in organic Chem pathways. I would really love to know why it is that specific catalyst and sort of work backwards. I don't know if that made any sense😢. Food Chem is also the same problem, but a lot worse than Organics... I dislike food chem mainly because of the lack of hands-on stuff? It's kind of embarrassing to say, but I really struggle to engage with anything if it is not in the form of visuals/maths and food chem just so happens to be that.... There are some good visuals here and there though but everything else doesn't particularly interest me.
I've heard a lot of Unit 4 Chem is similar to stuff you learn in Bio? Is that true? If that is, please don't murder me Choco😱.
I don't know, maybe my brain isn't wired in the right way to appreciate this type of stuff. Out of everyone I know, only me and my close friend [the French girl you know] seem to severely dislike it. I do agree with you, I am definitely uninspired by this topic and I'm hoping there might be a prac or something hands-on I could try in a hope to 'rekindle' the love for Unit 4 Chem.
Good luck with everything you have coming up Potato!Thank you!! Good luck with your upcoming exams (though you don't need it 8) )
Just handed in my folio 3 hours ago and I am DEAD insideWHAT A ROCKSTAR, amazing job!! I can't even imagine how terrifying or stressful it would be! Don't worry though, your products are AMAZING and I'm sure the examiners will be in awe ;D
I lost about 7 marks in total but I'm hoping to shrink that down to 0 as time goes on.That's not 'pretty well,' that's extraordinary, Losing 7 marks in your first exam is outstanding and shows how much passion you've had for this subject this year. I also hated Bio before Year 10 all my life hahaha, sometimes it's our least favourite subject which becomes our favourite!
[they were externally marked by VCAA examiners OH NO] and I thought I did badly but I ended up doing extremely well?Wowowowow! I don't have anything to say, Im legit so amazed (I have very bad vocab lol). This is sooooooo amazing. Waiting for that 50 in English dude...
Gosh I was totally joking (and everyone likes different things which is why AN is so cool) - also I feel like your brain is more wired towards the mathematics of chemistry? but yeah the organic chem stuff is more similar to bio. I kind of understand where you're going though, I mean sometimes the lack of depth in VCE or the fact that they only skim the surface of certain topics can be annoying (although I had the same problem with electrolysis, which you probably didn't have because of your physics background - I was so confused between the difference between voltage and current and my teacher just could not explain it at all.)Hey Choco!!🥰
Anyway sorry for that mini rant and thanks again for the update, keep being the best 8)
Hey,Hey Bri!
The reason you're using concentrated H2SO4 is Le Chatlier's principle! It's a reversible reaction & dilute H2SO4 would mean adding more water...
Usually people hate mechanisms (the actual step by step of how reactions work) but I learnt a bit of that in VCE and I found it helped me feel like I was actually understanding a process rather than just memorising.
Also: spectroscopy is the best topic in chem imo so u4 gets major points for that
With physics:
- you should be able to do standing wave formation in strings practically
- the formulas don't come from nowhere - you should be able to learn/be taught why the path diff eqs are as they are and same for De Broglie model of the atom. Not sure if that helps?
Congrats on your folio!
It's pretty normal to be feeling a lot of pressure at this time of year but I hope the heaviness of it eases up soon :)
Yay, an Ashmi update!! So sorry about the late response, I spent the entire day spazzing about the GAT today ahahaYo yo yo what's up Potato?🥰
Thank you!! Good luck with your upcoming exams (though you don't need it 8) )WHAT A ROCKSTAR, amazing job!! I can't even imagine how terrifying or stressful it would be! Don't worry though, your products are AMAZING and I'm sure the examiners will be in awe ;D
That's not 'pretty well,' that's extraordinary, Losing 7 marks in your first exam is outstanding and shows how much passion you've had for this subject this year. I also hated Bio before Year 10 all my life hahaha, sometimes it's our least favourite subject which becomes our favourite!
Wowowowow! I don't have anything to say, Im legit so amazed (I have very bad vocab lol). This is sooooooo amazing. Waiting for that 50 in English dude...
You are literally rocking all of your subjects which most people find difficulty with and you've shown extra resilience doing a art/tech subject in a pandemic. All the best for all of your subjects, and especially for PDT and Physics, you're gonna ace it! Have an amazing week ;)
Hey ash! I literally missed you so much!!Oh would you look at this cutie🥰. Hey sis how is it going??
Awesome job on your folio, I know how hard you've worked all through the year and I hope the examiners can see it :) By the way it looks incredible!!!!
Also incredible(sorry my lack of vocab is really showing through)job with the interviews... your role sounds v important so good job. Awesome work with all your subjects so far, you're showing incredible results and we're super proud!! I love how in-depth you go in English ahha I could never. Hope your trial exams go well, and best of luck for the term ahead :)
Hey ashmi! Been a bit busy so I'm late to the party, unfortunately. :(Hey hey whys! 🥰
Firstly, a massive congrats on finally finishing and submitting that mammoth of a folio. It's no easy feat, especially in the mess of a situation we're in right now, so I'm very very proud! The photos you've attached are astounding and I can see the hard work you've put into it.
I'm going to have to terminate our friendship right here. You don't like unit 4 chem!?!?!?! My goodness, it's the only bearable part of chem! If it weren't for unit 4 I don't even think I'd have picked up this subject. I cannot, for the life of me, understand unit 3, and it's so so confusing, and I still have all of unit 3 to relearn before exams. :( In all honesty, I'm so envious of your love of unit 3 because I just don't understand anything in it. :(
Congratulations with physics! I know by this point I'm just echoing what's already been said by the people above me, but you did so well on your exam and you should be mighty proud! ;D I know you'll do amazing in this subject, keep working hard! It's also great to see your love for English shine through the comparative.Re. thoughtsI don't know what it's like to do PDT or further, but I do know how you feel. Take a deep breath ash, I know things will get better. It's hard to maintain a positive outlook on things right now, but you've been working so hard and I think you're being hard on yourself. It's totally valid to feel fearful and I hope things get better for you. I'm always here if you need someone to talk to, and ease some of that pressure. <3
On top of that, I would also really love to get into Top Designs for 2021 (or at least shortlisted). Just the idea of having your folio and product up on display in a museum sounds pretty cool and I would really love if I could get my costume up there one day!+1 Accomplishment = Happy Ashmi
Currently, I'm a mixture of burnout, relief, excitement and fear. I've taken a VERY big break since my last update and I'm currently on a mini vacation with my friends which is helping me recover from this overload of stress that I've placed on myself for the past two years.Understandable :) The mini vacation looks incredible, any fun highlights? You definitely deserve it!
At this point, I was desperately curious to know what was in this box so I grabbed a small set of bolt cutters, cut that lock open and had a peek inside. Oh boy, I did NOT expect what I saw inside of that tin box. This is such a cool story, even 8 year old you knew it aha. I can't wait to see your passion grow for physics as you explore the subject further at university.
It was a bunch of photographs and a good chunk of them were from Scienceworks Planetarium.🤣Now, 8 year old me had no clue what the majority of these photos were, but now that I look at them again, it was pretty much astrophysics, electricity, fields and particle/high-energy physics.
It was then and there when I realised, I had an obsession with Physics. (whys thinks that is an understatement though...). I'm not talking about a small little "I love this subject" type of obsession, I'm talking to the extent where this subject has literally become my word. Its funny to think that the child version of myself already loved Physics before I even knew it was a thing.🤣. I don't even know what I got emotional over, but something about that little box got to me.
Well anyway thank you so much AN for all the support throughout this journey and I look forward to hopefully giving another update soon!!💕 Congrats Year 12s you have made it and good luck to the class of 2021!! We love you as always and have a super relaxing holiday💕💕💕Another congratulations on becoming a finalist in Top designs, I'd love to (and I'm sure many others would too) see more of your final/folio on here. All the best for the rest of the year, I hope you have a nice relaxing break.
Another congratulations on becoming a finalist in Top designs, I'd love to (and I'm sure many others would too) see more of your final/folio on here.Seconded!!!
So happy to see an update from you Ash!Hey mamma bean!
There was this eerie build-up in your journal to your PDT score, I was literally on the edge of my seat while reading! I so badly wanted to scroll down and look, but I kept reading, and when I reached the big reveal - oh boy. GIRL, YOU DID IT. RAW 50. R A W 5 0. All that perseverance and love for the subject really paid off, huh? You're amazing, Ash. You are such a hard worker, and you're the type of person that never gives up. You achieved your dreams and surpassed your goals - now your dream uni course is waiting for you!! This year was not easy, and the fact that you did so well makes me a super proud mamma. Congratulations for not only pulling through, but also achieving everything you dreamed of. You are nothing short of an inspiration, and I wish you all the best for your future endeavours.
I know how much you loved PDT, and it makes me so happy to hear you achieved a 50 for it. Congrats girl, you deserve it, and more!
Thank you for this awesome update, and I hope you have a wonderful 2021!
So happy for you!!!Hey Bri!!🥰
Sounds like you get to avoid being thrown into an ice bath as well ;)
You've dedicated yourself to PDT in particular and put in so much hard work so I'm especially glad to see that that has paid off!
Huge congratulations :D
P.S - next time a voice in your head tells you you can't achieve your dreams try to remember how exceptionally well you did in PDT despite how you felt after the exam :)
OHHey El🥰

Congrats again,
Eloise 🥰
AHHHH!!!! Congratulations Ash that's amazing!!!Hey Geoo!🥰
I remember reading the update when you finished the exam and knowing how up in the air it was with them changing it, so and i'm just so happy for you for PTD! You deserve the 50 so much, and i'm so proud of you. All of your hard work and dedication has paid off, and I couldn't be happier for you. I hoped you celebrated that amazing score because you 100% deserve it. Your journal has been such as pleasure to read throughout the year, and I always looked forward to your PTD updates. When I saw this update pop up, I felt just so nervous, crossing my fingers, and bam, a 50!!!!
The school move was so worth it for PTD!
So happy and super proud of you, hope you have a fantastic 2021! Looking forward to see what the future holds for you.
Your folio is just amazing, and the time and effort you put in really shows, and it paid off, congratulations!

Also I'm very honoured to have been christened as a young yet wise boi ahahahhahaha
Congratulations on completing VCE, ashmi! I hope you know that you've done amazingly well and deserve every ounce of success! :)Hey LM!
Whichever path you take, your AN fam will be right behind you, supporting you every step of the way :)
Physics can take you in many directions. There's a YouTuber called PaigeY who studied astrophysics at uni and now she's on her way to becoming an actuary!
I'm excited to hear all about your uni journey!
P.S. I think I might do the ice bath thing too - might remind me to stay on track!
I still cannot believe that I was able to get this. When I first created this journal, this was the course I had my eyes on and was my major goal. Once 2020 hit and a lot of personal issues came up, I pretty much gave up on even getting close to the ATAR I needed and at one point, I was pretty sure I wasn't going to even get into Bsci at UniMelb. It just feels so surreal to be able to receive the offer of my dreams. Seeing the journey it took from Year 10 all the way to now just to get this offer has been out of this world.I can definitely relate to this and I'm SO PROUD of you for getting there. I always knew that you could do it but that doesn't mean it didn't take diligence, hard work, sacrifice and all those stressful minutes before SACs and exams (it really makes it all worth it). I'm so, so excited that you made it into your dream course and I can't wait to see you absolutely blossom at Melbourne uni, pursing something that you are completely passionate about.
Am I going to do a Master in E.E? Or am I gonna run to physics for master? I don't know but I probably should start a uni journal for this.Um obviously? We need an ashmi uni journal.
Now, we are at the final destination. I am truly honoured to have met such amazing people through the forums. Each and every one of you have such unique personalities and aspirations that make me so glad to be part of AN. You all are so supportive of each other and this is one of the nicest and friendliest communities I've been part of. AN, you guys have been absolute legends. This has been one of the most incredible journeys to follow and I always get so excited when I see a new entry! Echoing Geoo it's a little sad to see it come to an end but I'm sure we will hear about your uni adventures soon. Thank you for being one of the members that has made AN such a supportive community. Enjoy the break, you'll smash 2021 8)
Hey Ash!
Well why was I crying?Spoiler(https://i.imgur.com/BTOOjYr.png)
I got a Raw 50 for PDT.
What shocks me, even more, is that there seems to be only 4 other people that got a 50 this year.
