UNSW Co-op Program

Hey guys!

i am looking at applying for a Co-op Scholarship at UNSW for Actuarial Studies. I am a 2019 HSC student doing Economics, Legal, English Adv. and English Ext 1. In 2018 I sat HSC for Maths 2U (99) and Maths MX1 (49). I am confident I will be able to attain target mid 99 ATAR.

Unfortunately, I did not choose to do 4U due to my circumstance at my school (rank approx. 170th) including teacher's ability in 4U and significantly better teacher in extension English. I have a passion for mathematics, however under the Actuarial degree it says 4U is recommended knowledge. Will I not be considered, or, significantly disadvantaged, despite doing well in 2 and 3 unit maths in my application.

Thanks in advance!

Hey!! So two points:

- Coop won't discriminate against you (directly) for not doing 4U. Like, experience there is probably a plus for your application/you as a candidate, but there are lots of other plusses that you can present. It's like, "Yeah I didn't do any sports in high school, but I did X, Y, Z" sort of thing. So not doing 4U is unlikely to matter much at all in the context of getting a Coop scholarship.
- Despite "recommended knowledge," UNSW doesn't have mandatory entry requirements. So for entry into the course itself, not doing 4U won't exclude you. You may or may not have trouble with the content itself because of the missing knowledge, I'm not sure about how much overlap there is or how much they expect. But on paper, recommended knowledge is just that  - Recommended! Not compulsory :)
