Would love a recommendation for face sunscreen please 🙏 I find most sunscreens are too greasy or make a white film on my already too pale face!

omg yassssss guys for people with acne Benzyl Peroxide is 100% the way to go but it will FUCK up your skin. To fix it up I use a really gentle oil-free moisturiser from Neutrogena, and I use the ego QV gentle cleanser in the shower, which is the best find ever.

Anyway a friend of mine swears by drinking celery juice on an empty stomach in the morning as an acne treatment but ain't no one got the time to blend and strain. If anyone tries it out lmkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk k baiii honeys <3 <3

YAAASSS I'M SO READY FOR THIS

To start off, I'm a huge fan of Korean skincare and makeup. Since I have a normal skin type, I tend to just stick to sheet masks every Sunday. I know a lot of beauty blogs tend to do sheet masks everyday but I'm a bit concerned that my skin will get irritated from the alcohol.

Pro tip: avoid products that have a very strong fragrance *cough cough* Aveeno moisturiser *cough cough* If it's to moisturise your body, it should be fine but if you're planning to use it on your face, then I wouldn't recommend it. It's also the reason why I hate flower sheet masks. I used an Etude House Rose sheet mask and my face dried up so much my skin started flaking. Flower products tend to have a lot of fragrance.

My go to sheet masks are usually: tea tree, green tea, aloe vera and hyaluronic acid. I would be careful using hyaluronic acid sheet masks during winter, especially if it's dry winter air because what it will do is that it will take the moisture from your skin and then dry you out, and dry skin in winter is a nightmare (trust me, for 14 years of my life, I detested moisturising and my skin would be cracked. I started moisturising properly in Year 10 lmao). Collagen sheet masks are also good- they're great for skin tightening. But I don't usually go for collagen sheet masks because I'm more into hydrating.

As for my go to brands, I love Etude House, The Face Shop and Innisfree. The Face Shop is the most accessible Korean skincare store because they have a store at Hurstville, Town Hall and Macquarie Centre. Although Innisfree is difficult to find in Australia, they recently set up an Australian-based Instagram account, but I'm not sure what they're planning here. As for Etude House- it's ridiculously difficult to find them here. They have stores set up in most of Asia and even the US but not Australia -_- I tend to get them when I'm visiting family overseas and my aunt (big skincare junkie like me lmao) sends me sheet masks.

Moving on to makeup, I love Etude House makeup because they're not too intense. Sometimes I like something that's not too full glam but natural. Their Dear Darling Jelly Lipstick is really good- quite sheer though. They're comfortable to use (didn't need to use lip balm) and they smell nice! I am a bit sad that mine melted, even though it wasn't in direct sunlight ;-; I also have their Etude House Dear Darling Soda Lip Tint in the shade PK001 and Dear Darling Water Tint in the shade Watermelon Red. I bought these 2 online at Yesstyle because my friend and I did a group haul so we can get free shipping- they're a trustworthy account and they ship really quickly. We ordered the products on Wednesday night and by Friday same week, they sent an email saying it's already shipped. The thing I didn't expect was how bright these colours were (Here's a swatch: First is Watermelon Red and the second is PK001 ) They both look the same on camera but I swear they're different! PK001 is a lot more pink while Watermelon Red has a more reddish tone. But the consistency is a bit different. Watermelon Red is a bit more watery. I'm still tried to figure out how to make it work because when I apply it on the centre of my lips and try to blend it out into a gradient look, it doesn't blend well. With PK001, I had to scrape off the excess on the side of the bottle and it applies and blends out well- Susie complimented my lip tint yesterday so I'm glad it worked out.

I also love using the Australis Lip Oil. They're vegan, it doesn't smell like chemicals and they look natural enough that my dad isn't suspicious of me wearing lip oil lol. A lot of lip products I use are lip tints, lip glosses and lip oils so they tend to not be transfer proof. I do have to give a warning with the Etude House Lip Tints, you need to get the Lip Tint remover to take it off properly. I have to scrub off the lip tint and there's a bit of colour on my lips. I just let it fade away.

As for eyeliners, this has been a big struggle. I started off with an Essence Waterproof Eyeliner but that didn't work out. Right now I use the Maybelline Hyperglossy Liquid Eyeliner because I can actually line my eyes properly. I recently bought the Maybelline Eyestudio Gel to try it out but it didn't work out as an eyeliner so I'm using it to tightline. I tried the W7 Liquid Eyeliner from their Very Vegan collection and it was horrible! It didn't apply properly and it get gathering in the corners of my eyes and irritated my eyes.

For mascara, I use the Maybelline Falsies Push Up. I have thin eyelashes so I found that any mascara with a massive brush did not help my lashes at all. I used the Elf Plumping Mascara and it get smudging on my eyelids because the brush was massive- I loved the formula though. The great thing about my Maybelline mascara is that I can actually feel it brushing my eyelashes and they actually stick up (and I don't curl my lashes because those eye lash curlers look like something a gynaecologist would use). It's not waterproof though so I may need to find a better one.

So here's my long review of skincare and makeup products I use (I was supposed to write my English essay but welp ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Hello! To get the thread started, I'mma share my make up and skincare routines!!

**It helps that I work at Priceline because I'm able to get free samples of makeup/skincare products and check out which brands are popular amongst my customers.

Bea's Makeup Routine
Since I prefer to have a natural and dewy look, I avoid foundation since I find it really heavy. ANYWAYS

1. I prime my face with the Rimmel Stay Matte primer. This allows for my makeup to stay on for longer, minimise my pores and make me look less shiny.
2. I do my brows with the Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil and the NYX Tinted Brow Mascara.
3. If I'm ever going to an event- I put the Natio Pure Mineral Skin Perfecting BB Cream all over my face using either my Real Techniques expert face brush or my Real Techniques beauty sponge. But it's very rare that I use BB cream since it transfers everywhere.
4. I prime my eyelids with the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion and blend it with my brush.
5. I use the Maybelline Fit me Concealer and put it under my eyes, problem areas, forehead. I also use it to clean up my brows.
6. Depending on the day, time I've got left and my mood- I put on eyeshadow. I usually pick my colours from the following palettes: Maybelline- The Nudes, Rimmel- Magnif'eyes Spice Edition or the Too Faced- Peach palette.
7. If I have enough time and wanna commit to my look (which is rare ahah)- I put on eyeliner. I either use a Mac Brushstroke Liner in Black or the Dollywink eyeliner in Brown.
8. I would get a powder brush and use the Mecca Max Skin Halo to highlight my cheekbones, my nose, some parts of my forehead and my cupid's bow.
9. I set my face using the NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray.
10. I curl my eyelashes and use two mascaras- L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Waterproof to add length to my straight Asian Lashes and the Kiss Me Heroine Make Volume and Curl Mascara to add more definition.
11. And lastly, if I feel like it, I'll wear lipstick. I have quite a lot of lipsticks but these are my top three picks- Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink (in the shade: Fighter), Smashbox Always on Liquid Lipstick (in the shade: Out Loud) and the Rimmel Liquid Lip Colour (in the shade Moca)

And when I put my glasses back on, it literally looks like I did nothing and you can't even see my eye makeup :-\ But that's ok. I enjoy spending time in the morning for myself and adding stuff to my face for fun. My routine usually takes around 30-40 minutes which is why I'm always late for the bus ahaha

Bea's Skincare Routine
As for my skincare routine- boy oh boy. Every morning and night I do wash, cleanse, tone and moisturise my face. However, twice a week I do this long skincare routine before I go to sleep.

**Disclaimer: I have dry, sensitive skin and I don't have much acne. So only use this as a guide if you have the same skin type as me !! Best to do your research first, see what ingredients you're allergic to and check out reviews before trying and purchasing a product.

1. Wash my face with water
2. Cleanse my face with the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Foaming Gel. LRP is AMAZING for sensitive skin!! As well as for skin that are prone to acne, or small bumps.
3. Exfoliate my face- one day I use the Sukin Oil Balancing Plus Charcoal Pore Refining Facial Scrub. The Sukin exfoliator helps draw out the oils out of my skin and mattify my face. I alternate with the Formula 10.0.6 One Smooth Operator Pore Cleaning Face Scrub because this actually exfoliates all the dead skin outta my face oml
4. FACE MASKS!!- I use the L'Oreal Pure Clay Anti-Blemish Mask (clay, washoff mask) to treat my problematic areas on my forehead and some parts of my cheeks. I also use the Formula 10.0.6 Be Berry Clear Illuminating Peel Mask (peel mask as mentioned) to brighten my undereyes and other areas in my face that haven't already been covered by the L'Oreal Clay mask.
5. Tone my face with the Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner- I love love the Rosewater because its so refreshing and it smells so nice
6. I use the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Roll On to add more moisture to my undereyes cos they dry. This product is somewhat- very soothing, I love.

This is where my moisturising routine comes down and I use quite a lot of products I think
7. I use the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Plus to reduce the marks on my face caused by the lil bumps I get from stressing about uni ahaha
8. I use the Neutrogena Face Cream Sensitive Skin all over my face for a general face moisturiser.
9. Lastly, I use the La Roche-Posay Toleraine Riche Soothing and Protective Cream for the really dry spots on my face

Again, this is my own skincare routine for my dry, sensitive skin. Do research first before you buy any of these products if you think that they are suitable for your face! I personally don't use sheet masks because they are so strong and I usually get a reaction after using them

Edit: Ohmygod how could I forget the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion!! If I have a huge pimple or whitehead on my face, this drying lotion calms the spot overnight and the size should be reduced when you wake up the next morning. The salicylic acid is meant to help it?? I don't know the science behind this, but the ladies at Mecca have explained to me that this acid is meant to help and I believe them.

My goodness this took 40 minutes to type out ahaha

What skin type are you? If you're an oily skin type, I know my friend uses the Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid. BHA is essentially Beta Hydroxy Acid, which is the gentler version of salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is supposed to attack the pimples. I will repeat though, this is great for oily skin type because it's oil soluble and can dry you out. However, I did see a beauty blogger with dry skin type use it and she loved it so maybe it could work.

Hey! I would try out the La Roche Posay face sunscreen ranges- my customers go CRAZY over these sunscreen!! A little bit pricey tho rip ($30?) but just time it well with the sales at Priceline or Chemist Warehouse and you shall get yo sunscreen!! (but *coughs* go to Priceline pls and support my job ahahha) You can also try the Neutrogena dry touch sunscreen if you want!! (I reckon just do some research first before purchasing as we all have different skin types)

Actually contributing to the thread now..

Agree with this. I have had acne for a looooong time (probably from early teens) and have used a product called Benzac. I'm thankful that over the past 2 years or so my acne has reduced significantly and only get a few pimples here and there from ingrown hairs on my face due to shaving etc but the 10% strength will literally bomb any acne you have and get rid of it quick smart. Only downside is the fact that given it's benzyl peroxide, if you go out in the sun your face starts to peel badly so like brenden said, moisturiser is definitely required... I'm nearly 24 and still get them every so often so hopefully the phase resolves itself... soon... as I still blend in like i'm a teenager when I teach. lol

In terms of blackheads, these are probs my main issue. I have a LOT of them across my nose area and under my eyes and they are extremely stubborn. I have literally tried everything.... really have just accepted they are just my crappy pores and I just deal with it now. Get rid of -> return -> repeat

Omg same- took me ages to write out everything xD

But seriously though, you should do a full on GRWM and just spill the tea, as you do like any other beauty guru (Jeffree Star lmao). Like, I'm still trying to figure out how to use an eyeshadow palette. I get confused when beauty gurus are like "I'm gonna pack this colour in my crease" and I'm like "I have tiny Asian eyes pls help ._." Also what brushes do you use? I'm internally sobbing that I can't afford a Morphe Eye Brush Set.

To really help the blackheads, I would recommend anything with C H A R C O A L!!
Charcoal sucks up all the oils that causes the blackheads to form. Possibly try the Sukin Charcoal range (would recommend the charcoal face scrub) or if you really wanna commit- the Formula 10.0.6 charcoal peel off mask. Peel off masks are really for extreme cases though.

Hello it is I Bea MUA xx

Honestly tbh I don't know what I'm doing when I do my eyeshadow. I just get a light colour and smear it over my lid and above my crease since I have hooded eyes. Then I get a dark colour in my crease and a metallic colour on my eyelid. Though this is when I'm feeling super extra. I usually pack one eyeshadow colour on my lids and called it a day l m a o. I've used the same makeup brushes since Dec 2016 ahaah. I gotta replace them soon. But I own the Nude by Nature brushes that come in a lil pouch. I would also seriously recommend the Elf eye brushes- they're only $3 at KMART (bargain!) but it helps to practice and stuff. My aunt also gave me these Harry Potter wand eye brushes which are very cute! What brushes do you use?

Oml Morphe is so darn expensive, but you can use code 'James' for 10% off ;) I really wanna buy the Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette from Morphe but I gotta save my money to fund my film!!! One day ...

I've practically never had a pimple but, as Brenden could confirm, my skin is pre' whack in other ways. Super, super dry all the time to the point that it bleeds pre' much every day. I have prescribed stuff for it but have been on the lookout for super good moisturiser if anybody has tips?

I will see if I can convince my mum to actually buy an eyeshadow palette and eye brushes. I've always been eyeing the Elf brush set and the Covergirl Trunaked palette because they're supposed to be a dupe for Urban Decay Naked Palette (which btw, $83 from Mecca?? I'm too broke for that ;-;). But how does one use makeup but at the same time not be too extra so my dad doesn't notice lmao

On another note, what makeup removers do you guys use?
I've used a lot of makeup removers and they tend to dry me out -_-

As someone who has never tried this stuff, I'm curious as to if you feel it makes a significant difference now or it's preventative or w/e

The Elf brush set is definitely a must! Good quality and good value as well. As for Covergirl Trunaked palette- I would honestly lean more towards another drugstore like Rimmel, Maybelline or Covergirl, just because Covergirl isn't as pigmented as takes forever to get something out of them! I just tend to avoid Covergirl altogether because I don't like the quality or pigmentation that much aha.

Just have a super natural makeup look- so just do natural brows, use concealer on its own (with primer) rather than using foundation/BB cream, then a natural eyeshadow, mascara and a natural/nude lipstick.

There are plenty of makeup removers you can use! You can use the Garnier micellar water- it cleanses your face and removes makeup at the same time. There are always the makeup remover wipes and heaps of brands sell it (ie; Burt's Bee's, Nivea, Garnier, Neutrogena). I, personally, avoid wipes since it adds more waste to the environment ugh. I use the Face Halo Makeup Removing Pads because they're reusable pads !! All you gotta do is wash them with soap after each use and chuck them in the washing machine. I know they're a bit pricey, but when you think about it- you don't have to pay for makeup wipes, micellar water and cotton pads each month. I've saved up quite a lot by using the Face Halo pads (aha it genuinely feels like I'm sponsored by them and Priceline to promote them but it is genuinely good for the environment!!)

In terms of makeup- it does help in a way with my esteem (lol very sad but will explain) because I get to spent an hour to myself each morning and create art through makeup and I get to display the artwork on my face. Doesn't matter if it looks shit- it still feels like art and that boosts up my self esteem a little.

As for my skincare routine- it definitely helps when I'm super stressed (since this is when more bumps on my face [especially my forehead] appear). But if it were a normal day like today, I don't need to do my elaborate skin care routine. It's sometimes better to keep it to a minimum at all times so that you can let your skin breathe a little.

I don't usually have bad breakouts but when I have a mini breakout and pop my acne, it obviously gets a bit inflamed. But if I put on a sheet mask, it calms down my skin and I do feel a lot more hydrated.

(aha it genuinely feels like I'm sponsored by them and Priceline to promote them but it is genuinely good for the environment!!)
Omg giirrl hook me up with Priceline discounts because Priceline makes me broke lol jk

That's the thing- I've been using a lot of makeup wipes because it's convenient and there are so many makeup removers I have no clue which ones are good.
So here's a list of makeup wipes that I've used:
Garnier Micellar Water Wipes (these dried out my eyes the skin on my eyelids started flaking)
Garnier Oil-based Wipes (not as bad as the Micellar Water but my face feels a bit dry)
Neutrogena Cleansing Towelettes (wasn't too bad but my cheeks got a bit dry)
Johnson's Facial Wipes (also a bit drying on my cheeks)

I'm using the Neutrogena Night Calming Wipes at the moment and it isn't too bad but it just feels a bit uncomfortable after taking off my makeup. I will try and see if I could get the Face Halo Removing Pads- just remember, I'm a broke person, unemployed and rely on my mum to get me stuff lmao. Apart from Face Halo, which cleansing water would you recommend? (I'm on the Priceline website right now and I'm lost lmao)

Skincare tip:

- Clindatech is great for getting rid of pimples. It's a spot solution though so you don't rub it all over your face. Needs a prescription from your doctor but seriously zaps pimples away and doesn't make my skin angry. I used to use benzoyl peroxide but I started getting a rash when I used it so had to stop. If you find BP too harsh then try this!

I've found my skin has improved so much since the end of high school because I also started going to the GP to sort out other stuff like hormonal problems and all that and I found when I started dealing with my overall health more my skin has improved heaps!!

I also use St Ives Apricot Scrub as my main cleanser, and moisturise every day with Simple kind to skin hydrating light moisturiser. Sticking at it for ages has really helped. Also, drinking heaps of water!!

Seriously though, if you find you're getting bad acne go see your GP, because they can help you out with medicated skin care and stuff :)

I have a question for the makeup afficionados - I am absolutely hopeless with makeup. I can apply concealer to the bags under my eyes but that's about the boundary of my expertise. How did you learn?
Obviously now I'm not in HS I want to make sure I do it right because it's not acceptable to go through a blocked eyebrow phase like it was in HS haha. I want to just be able to do a low-maintenance routine for if I'm going out for dinner or for a special occasion. I got a makeup lesson for my 18th but I didn't really find it helpful because the MUA taught me like a full face dealio and I just want like a lighter-coverage-look-a-bit-dressy thing.

I guess it's just a matter of practice but I'm just worried about making a big mistake and looking like a clown!

Hey there,
I'm no MUA (unlike Bea ;)) but from the hundreds of makeup tutorials I've watched, I guess that's how I learnt on how to apply certain products and where products generally sit on the face.

From what I've learnt (again, from makeup tutorials), the general steps that beauty gurus tend to follow are:
Spoiler
1. Primer so your foundation lasts longer.
2. Foundation (I know Tati uses a Clarisonic to apply her foundation but generally I've seen beauty blenders being used for foundation)
3. Concealer (generally applied under the eyes, chin and the area in between your eyebrows- then blend out with a beauty blender)
4. Any other 'liquid' products- stick bronzer, liquid highlight (if necessary)
5. Setting powder to "bake" (placed under the eyes where you applied the concealer and wait for around 10 minutes. "Baking" is when you use your body heat to set your foundation and concealer. I don't think it's necessary but a lot of articles have said that it's supposed to make your makeup creaseless.)
6. While waiting for your setting powder to bake, you could probably do your eyebrows as well (tbh, I still have no clue how to do my eyebrows so sorry about that :/)
7. If you're a newbie to applying eyeshadow, it's also recommendable to do eyeshadow while you're "baking" because after you've "baked", you use a powder brush to dust off your setting powder. Since there may be fallout when applying eyeshadow, it's easier to make the mess and then dust off the setting powder rather than ruining your foundation. (again, no clue how to put on eyeshadow :/)
8. From here on, I don't think it matters if you do eyeliner and mascara first or you contour, blush and highlight. From Tati's GRWMs, she tends to do highlight, blush and contour.
Highlight: you apply these on the high points of your face. So, your cheekbones, cupid's bow and the tip of the nose.
Contour: the whole point is to 'sharpen'/make your face look skinnier, so from what beauty gurus have taught me, you suck in your cheeks and contour under your cheekbones, nose, jawline and your temples.
Blush: you apply blush at the apples of your cheeks.
9. Eyeliner- I usually struggle putting on eyeliner because my left eye is usually thicker than my right eye. If you wanna go even more extra, tightline- which means to use a waterproof eyeliner (usually a pencil), lift up the top lashes and you should see some visible space below your lashes. That's where you tightline. If you really wanna tightline, pull down your eye and line your waterline (the white space of your eyes). My eyes are too dry to do this so tightlining isn't necessary!
10. Mascara- probably the easiest things to apply. You need to get the right mascara brush because each brush is designed for different purposes: lengthen? volumizing? waterproof? The way I apply mascara is to brush your lashes but wiggle the wand as you brush.
11. Lips- I started off using Australis Lip Oils because they were designed to give your lips some pigment but not too intimidating like a liquid lipstick or an actual lipstick. There are other lip products: lip tints, lip glosses, lipsticks, liquid lipsticks. With lip oils, lip glosses, lipsticks and liquid lipsticks, you apply them like you normally would with a lip balm. Some beauty gurus like to use a lip liner just to give their lips a bit more of a pout. I've never used them so I'm not sure. Just be careful when looking for a liquid lipstick- they're notorious for being drying and crumble on your lips (I've had bad experiences with liquid lipsticks). I'm sure there are actually good liquid lipsticks (Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks, smashbox). Also be careful with a lip tint because they actually last and are difficult to take off.
12. Setting spray to make sure your makeup stays in place.
And these are the full steps on doing makeup.

Personally, I think some of these are a bit too much. If it's for an everyday look, I would probably use concealer, mascara, blush and some lips (probably a nude colour) since a full-on makeup routine tends to be really time-consuming and confusing if you're a beginner (and I'm still in my newbie stage too). (I have no clue how helpful this was so sorry if I didn't answer your question!)

Omg giirrl hook me up with Priceline discounts because Priceline makes me broke lol jk

Lol girrlll I work at Priceline and I'm broke because of Priceline ahahah (the irony) Gotta love the 40% sales (I have a gut feeling a 40% off skincare sale will come up very soon since we just had the 50% off all haircare sale last week).

Ikr the Face Halo Removing Pads are so pricey- but hey guess what! The Priceline Sisterclub quarterly rewards should be coming out this week so I reckon use that to purchase the face halo pads and save some $$$? That's what I did in the first quarter (I had around $17 in my quarterly reward) and I got a 20% staff discount so that brought down the pads down to like $10 ahaha. Hmu if you wanna get the face halo pads with my discount ;)

As for cleansing water- it really depends on preference of brand and price range you're willing to pay. I know customers quite like the Garnier micellar water the most (in terms of quality and price). But I would try these micellar waters in these other brands as well- Sukin, Akin and Bioderma.

Hello Kate!

Pretty much Olivia has hit the nail on the head in her response. For a really low maintenance routine, I reckon try using these products/steps
1. Primer- make face looks less shiny and minimise pores
2. Go straight into concealer- use a brush or a sponge to B L E N D
3. Fill out eyebrows- use a pencil if your eyebrows are sparse, if not- just use a tinted eyebrow mascara to keep them in place
4. Mascara
5. Possibly a tiny bit of highlight to add some oomph to the look
6. Setting spray to keep everything in place
7. If you want- a nude/natural lip colour

I do quite a similar routine because I cannot be bothered to do the entire makeup routine like beauty gurus do on Youtube. But it really depends on you Kate! You can always experiment with products until you find a routine that best suits you :)

I'm no MUA (unlike Bea ;))

Sister Olivia you making me sister shook

Tbh I have no clue how much I have in the Priceline Sisterclub- technically it's my mum's lmao. We've been avoiding Priceline at the moment because Chemist Warehouse is on sale with 50% off all makeup (and by all, it's just Revlon, Maybelline, Rimmel, Covergirl and probably some unknown makeup brands).

Maybe someday, we need to just get together at a massive Priceline branch and just splurge on makeup ;)

Ahh Chemist Warehouse has such good deals !!!!!! I'm too loyal to my workplace and I refuse to step into Chemist Warehouse unless it is an emergency or if a product is significantly cheaper than Priceline (incl. my staff discount). It's just CW doesn't have NYX which is one of my favourite drugstore brands and the quality is pretty good!! With Priceline- I always time it during the 50% and I get that further 20% and I'm in makeup heaven. I spent around $45.85 during the 50% off sale and saved around $50?? CW doesn't have Australis as well which is good quality !! (especially their Neutralize eye shadow palette)

Ah yes please a Priceline haul sounds awesome!! Though you just gotta head over to my Priceline because its the only place where I can get my staff discount. Priceline isn't like Macca's where you can get a staff discount at any branch as long as you show proof of ID. Most Priceline stores give 10% discount though since my Priceline is special, we get 20% discount instead ;)

Omg we should've started the skincare/makeup thread with a "HEY SISTERS"

yes we love a shista introduction

I've practically never had a pimple but, as Brenden could confirm, my skin is pre' whack in other ways. Super, super dry all the time to the point that it bleeds pre' much every day. I have prescribed stuff for it but have been on the lookout for super good moisturiser if anybody has tips?

Oml nearly scrolled past this!! La Roche-Posay and Bioderma have really good moisturisers for sensitive skin!!!

True, my closest CW only has Revlon and Maybelline ;-; They don't even have the full shade range for the Maybelline Fit Me foundations.

I've always wanted to properly use Nyx products because my closest Priceline has a bunch of Nyx stuff and I feel like I should get something but there's so much I get overwhelmed. Like, it took me 2 months to decide which Buttergloss colour I wanted (and those smell good!). Not a huge fan of their Lip Lingerie (wore it to formal once and it felt really dry). I did hear that the Nyx eyeshadow is a bit more pricey than other drugstore brands (my friend did recommend them though). I need to dig through the Youtube reviews to find what Nyx products are good.

I also love Australis! They're lip oils were amazing and I remember when they did a KPOP x Australis collection- really loved their lip tint too (not as strong as Etude House). I'll see if I can swatch an Australis palette with a tester- I've been keeping my eye on it for a while actually. Kinda sad that the Neutralize palette is the same price in Big W and Priceline -_- But how does one hide a huge palette lmao. Maybe I'll go for the Rimmel Magnif'eyes first (I do have Priceline near my school and I'm stopping by tomorrow ;))

Omg the way Tana dragged her beauty blender makes me akjhfkashfksf

I have cystic acne so I am on prescription medication (Doxycilyne) and cream (Duac) all the time... the Duac is amazing and can just be used for any type of acne. I use makeup from Aldi... I'm not earning my own money yet so I try and go for the cheapest good quality makeup I can find! LACURA has an awesome foundation (with Sunscreen! ;) ) that I've used for years... I find it hard to find makeup the right colour for my skin... I'm really pale and seem to always come somewhere between the lightest and second-lightest!  ??? ::) I also use the LACURA powder and blush... I'm not really very adventurous!  ;) :-\ We live in a relatively small town so there's no priceline or discount chemist... only a regular chemist (that seems to charge as high as they like for the makeup because its the only option for the well-known make-up brands) and the grocery stores! anyway... thats my 2c worth!

Hey fam, bit of an odd question but I always get dry cracked skin on my fingers near the nails, which is occasionally painful- what should I do?

Are you pushing your cuticles back? Otherwise, moisturise. Cut the little bits of skin off with nail clippers if they are like peeling upwards.

Legit guys I think this is gonna be the biggest thread on ATAR Notes 5 years from now lol

I've been using hand cream from The Body Shop and they've helped me stop pulling on my skin and moisturise my hands. Just a heads up: their hand cream is very fragrant.

In terms of makeup- it does help in a way with my esteem (lol very sad but will explain) because I get to spent an hour to myself each morning and create art through makeup and I get to display the artwork on my face. Doesn't matter if it looks shit- it still feels like art and that boosts up my self esteem a little.

t h i s

I've been waiting for a thread like this for a while HAHAHAH

on beauty blenders -- I used to use them but then didn't want to pay $30 for the 'real' one at sephora for another I'd have to throw away in a couple of months so I just started using my (clean) hands and tbh I get a similar if not better finish
and also they tend to soak up a lot of product :( but they do prevent streaks and over-applying if that's a concern

I just do a 'natural' makeup routine like Olivia and Bea described but I have to plug some products which haven't been mentioned (unless I missed it oops) and they're HG for me lol

1. Maybelline Full n Soft mascara -- this stuff is the only one I've used that doesn't make my lashes clumpy, yet increases volume and lengthens whilst still looking real. It doesn't flake either on me and can hold a curl. I also love that the washable version is very easy to remove so I don't have to tug on my lashes and lose some in the process lol
Sometimes I layer this with the Maybelline Mega Plus Volum' Express and I get asked if I'm wearing fake lashes...!!!!!!

2. Liquid and cream products
I used to use powder blush and highlight but now I save that for a more dramatic look -- cream and liquid products look more 'skin like' imo. I really like the Make Up For Ever cream blushes
Maybelline has a good liquid highlight but I use the Becca shimmering skin perfector one atm in the shade opal. It's a bit expensive but you only need a little, and you can also get it in a little set from Sephora which comes with the mini one and a mini powder one too
NYX also has one which I haven't tried but it's only $7 :o
MAC strobe cream is pretty good but expensive however you can buy a smaller bottle for about $20 I believe

I layer powder highlights over liquid or cream ones for the blinding/popping etc effect

3. Maybelline Fit Me and Superstar 24hr concealer
I use both of these under my eyes which cover dark circles really well. I use the superstay one in a shade too light for me just in the inner corner of my eye, and the fit me in the right shade kind of under the bottom lash line, almost to the cheek. I blend both with a brush or clean fingers to look alive haha

4. Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray
It works!!! Also, if you use setting spray before applying highlighter, it will 'pop' more #protip

Hey fam, bit of an odd question but I always get dry cracked skin on my fingers near the nails, which is occasionally painful- what should I do?
try this https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwiQncb40oneAhXWq5YKHXXkDMwYABAFGgJ0bA&ohost=www.google.com.au&cid=CAASE-RoIE2Q7El2SA7UwTSwtLPlBmQ&sig=AOD64_3j0q9GoY9AYAsrHfzrs4gkBcxaqw&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwik38D40oneAhWQd94KHbbUAFkQ9aACCEc&adurl= amazingly it actually works!

I sometimes use the Burt's Bees Cuticle Cream since it is specifically for the skin near the nails and oml the cream really does moisturise yo cuticles!! (and it smells like lemon as well which is nice!)

Which Kmart sponge do you use? I know there's so many of them but which style? The Kmart sponges don't work for me for some reason and it makes me a lil sad because I would spend money on the Real Techniques sponge from Priceline and that costs like $17 :( The $3 sponge can save me a lot of $$

It looks like it could be a good quality brand (and cheap too) but I'm not sure how good it is.

Hey, I use the pink classic shaped one that looks like the og beauty blender (dont know how else to explain lmao plus im due to buy a new one soon so i cant remember its proper product name)

I've tried some of their stuff and it's not the best
Would not recommend, plus kmart sells elf which is usually the same price for much better makeup (i trust my $3 elf eyelash curler with my life)

I've tried it... not as good as it looks, as holky said, wouldn't recommend it!

Hey guys,
So I can feel my mascara and eyeliner running out (it's slowly getting dry -_-). Any drugstore and eyeliner recommendations?

A lot of beauty gurus rave about L'oreal Lash Paradise but supposedly it's a dupe for Too Faced Better Than Sex, which I've heard is very clumpy and flakey.

The covergirl lashperfection mascara has served me well for several years. Would recommend!

Though I'm no makeup expert - I rarely use mascara, and have never actually successfully applied eyeliner.  ;D

Hey, I use a revlon mascara I got for free from my aunt who works there and the purple one is the bomb, mg eyelashes are always looking superb thanks to it (i think the purple lid is the definition one, but yeah go check revlon mascara out)

Hey guys,
I recently bought a waterproof mascara but I'm also having trouble taking it off using the Garnier Micellar Water. At the moment I'm trying the Neutrogena eye makeup remover. Although it does remove my mascara, it's also very oily despite the claim on the packaging saying it's "oil-free." Any other makeup removers that can easily take off waterproof mascara?

Usually a lot of the oil based removers are the most effective at removing waterproof makeup. But if you are looking for one without oil try the 'Garnier Makeup Remover Sensitive 2 in 1 Waterproof'. It works wonders for me!

Hey guys,
I just bought a Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink lip colour/liquid lipstick (?) and I'm finding that it takes so long to dry and it's a bit sticky once it's dry. Is this normal? Are there any other liquid lipsticks that are comfortable to wear and don't crumble?

Hey, you should try the NYX liquid lipsticks, I've never really had a problem with then
Also, you can try setting the lips with translucent setting powder to dry it, I've found that works for me

Was it the Lip Lingerie or the Suede Cream/Lip Cream?

I absolutely adore the Maybelline Superstay Matte in liquid lipstick! Though yes it does take a lil while to dry down and once it's dried down- it does not come off !! Even when you eat greasy food- it's still there!! It's quite sticky when it's dried down, you kinda get used to it though!

Other liquid lipstick recommendations-
* Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick
* Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour
* Kylie Cosmetics (a bit of a pain to buy but I don't mind the formula at all?)
* NYX Liquid Suede (Cream)- these are comfortable to wear but transfers quite significantly compared to other liquid lipsticks !

I will give it to Maybelline that the Superstay Matte Ink lasts really long (I was too lazy to take it off before showering and it managed to stay on when I showered). However, I did have to use an oil-based remover to properly take it off, which just leaves a nasty greasy feel around my mouth.

I am also using the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid- which is more of a satin finish rather than matte- and it's quite comfortable but the smell is really overpowering. It smells like perfume and doesn't go away when I apply it on my lips so I'm constantly smelling really flowery perfume (which is disgusting).

Other liquid lipstick recommendations-
* Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick
* Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour

I'm not sure if I could get my hands on Kylie Cosmetics but I'll have a go at the Rimmel Stay Matte. When I was playing with the Smashbox Liquid Lipsticks at Mecca, the colours were a bit too deep for my liking (I'm more into the pinky-nude colours. I'm not even sure if they match my skin tone lmao).

I use the Lush lip scrub (bubblegum) then I either apply a layer of Vaseline or the Dermal lip balm to add moisture back in my lips :)

How does a lip scrub actually work? I tried making one with sugar and honey and then bought an Australis lip scrub but I was so confused on whether there are any directions on how to use it. And how do you know if the lip scrub is actually working?

So when you use lip scrub, it gets rid of the dead skin on your lips. You’ll notice that your lips are smoother afterwards (and hopefully plumper as well!)

Is it bad that I know why Vaseline "adds" moisture back? :-[ it's a humectant- it imparts moisture onto the surface it's applied to :') #formulationchem

Anyways my sister is wondering what the best type of make-up remover is. I have 0 clue here obviously lmao. Pls help <3

Love me my Vaseline! Very cheap yet so moisturising !

Depends on what make up your sister wants to remove (just makeup in general or waterproof makeup), depends on their skin type, if they prefer natural products and don’t mind etc.

After working in Priceline so long, this is how I approach giving advice on this thread

Hello!

Just a lil headsup for all you makeup addicts- Priceline will be having their 50% sale on ALL Cosmetics (excl. Essence and Napoleon) from Wednesday to Friday this week!

I didn’t get paid to say that aha.

Anyways I came into Priceline today and reserved some items before all the customers come and take all the stock tomorrow. I reckon I have around $200+ worth of products in my reserved basket.

Will post a picture of my haul soon hehehe

hey just casually bringing this thread back hold up

If anyone's looking for an affordable and good lash serum- would recommend the Rimmel Lash Accelerator serum! I feel that my lashes are longer compared to when I started using it 3 weeks ago and they feel conditioned.

A nice light foundation recommendation- Benefit Cosmetics Hello Happy Soft blur Foundation

Got me some (very unnecessary) makeup purchases this week (some reviews down below in the spoiler!!):
Spoiler
* Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer (very nice natural bronzer)
* Benefit Cosmetics High Beam liquid highlighter (haven't used it yet but looks very pretty)
* Benefit Cosmetics the Porefessional primer (goes super well with the foundation I suggested earlier!)
* Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash mascara (haven't tried it but I've seen Sister James Charles rave about this mascara on his youtube channel)
* Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb (lip gloss) in the shade Fenty Glow (alright lowkey disappointed in this product because Fenty Beauty has been hyped up so much and as well as this product and I had such high expectations so I'm like let's give it a go. The 'Fenty Glow' shade is meant to be universal and fits any skin tone. But the moment I put it on, it literally looks like I'm wearing nothing. I didn't realise how similar the lip gloss would be to my natural lip colour. I obviously can't return the lip gloss so now I must use this overly priced product on me)

It says on the official website that Drew Barrymore found the brand. Usually I'm a bit sus when it comes to brands found by celebrities (Fenty Beauty let me down big time lol) But the prices are heaps affordable so might give that a whirl.

LoI feel like I'm a bit biased about Fenty Beauty because I only tried one product of theirs ahahaha. Should've clarified that their lipgloss let me down (good formula but wasn't as universal as they advertised it lol). I'll like to try one of their highlighters one day.

Oh dayum see how you go (once you have found Flower Beauty in stores) and pop a review in this thread aha. Been trying to find cheap lipstick that stays on forever (especially with bullet lipsticks because they are much more comfortable than liquid lipsticks but don't stay as long)

Speaking of lipsticks, I've recently tried the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks and I am telling you guys now that it is so L I G H T on the lips !! Genuinely feels like I'm not wearing any lipstick which is weird because they're liquid lipsticks !! They stayed on for a decent amount of time but like every other liquid lipstick- it comes off when you eat oily food. Wished they had a bigger range on the Princess Polly website because a) shipping from the official Jeffree Star cosmetics takes a while b) there's a shipping fee obvs

Their Killawatt highlighters do look pretty, I'm just a bit confused on the Killawatt Foil shades (especially the shades Sangria Sunset and Poolside)- they look more like eyeshadows to me.

I personally would like to try the Bretman Rock highlighter palette- maybe I'm biased because the palette does look like it does cater to a lot of different skin tones.

I've swatched the Trophy Wife highlighter in Sephora once and it was awfully glittery and I was so shook. I really want to love the Fenty Beauty brand because it is inclusive and owned by a woman of colour but idk the lip gloss ain't working with me :/ Idk which other product to get because I'm not a fan of super high coverage foundation/concealer plus the FB eyeshadows aren't really appealing to me. I got a lot of lipsticks so I don't need to add more in my collection aha.

I got the shades 'Androgyny' (plum coloured) and 'Celebrity Skin' (very nude). You should try it! I am genuinely surprised at how light the formula is on the lips (unlike NARS oml). I really want to buy more but I should probably use my other lipsticks first before I buy new ones aha ;D

Hey guys,

I just came back from Chemist Warehouse with some Flower Beauty products (and by some, I mean two lip products lmao). I would recommend calling Chemist Warehouse in advance just to ask if they sell Flower Beauty. I called 3 different stores and my local one didn't have any so I had to go to a different Chemist Warehouse that's a bit further away from my home. But the stand looks brand new and they actually have proper testers (usually they don't) and these testers look like they haven't been touched.

I bought the Mix n Matte Lip Duo in the shade Honey Nude. The cool thing about this product is that it's only $10 but it comes with a matte lipstick and a lip gloss, and it's the same price as their Petal Pout Lipstick. I was gonna get the Petal Pout Lipstick but if I'm paying the same price whilst getting two products, then why not? The lipstick is very comfortable to wear. It isn't transfer proof but I don't think I've seen a lipstick that isn't transfer proof. I'm wearing the gloss on top of the lipstick, and it's actually not sticky. It gives the colour a metallic look, which does look pretty.

I also bought the Miracle Matte liquid lipstick in the shade Bare Honey. I personally think the online store doesn't give you a good indication on what the shade looks like. I haven't done a proper wear test with this lipstick but the one time I did apply on my lips, it's actually very light. It doesn't feel dry, but it does take a while for it to dry down. I swatched it on the back of my hand so I can see what it's like when it dries down properly. I don't think it's completely transfer proof- whenever I wipe my finger on it, I do get a bit of the product on my finger. But I did wash my hands and it's still staying on my hand.

So yeah, there's my mini review on Flower Beauty. I do want to get more of their products (I actually considered getting their face palette but I don't have any makeup brushes ;-;). And they are quite affordable, I think it's a lot cheaper here than in the US (the face palette is $16 US = $22 AUS but it's priced at $14 here).

Hey, any tips for applying eyeliner?

Every time I have attempted to put it on, it is too thick and not close enough to my waterline. I have watched plenty of tutorials but still don't seem to get it.

Is pencil or liquid better for a rookie? Willing to invest in some new eyeliner as I have a few Priceline gift vouchers.  ;D

Every time I have attempted to put it on, it is too thick and not close enough to my waterline. I have watched plenty of tutorials but still don't seem to get it.

Is pencil or liquid better for a rookie? Willing to invest in some new eyeliner as I have a few Priceline gift vouchers.  ;D

Very generic answer but PRACTICE! Took me about 8 ish months to find a method perfect for me (I got hooded Asian eyes)

Honestly it really depends on your eye shape and how much eye lid space you got. Personally Michelle Phan's tutorial on how to apply eyeliner helped a lot! I like the dotted line method she mentions in the video (around the 0:54 mark). Better to take it slow than doing your eyeliner in one go. Short and steady wins the race!

Another tip would be taking your eyeliner pen, then lining up the end of your eye to the end of your eyebrow to determine the angle of your wing. That probably doesn't make sense lol but if you check out the first step in this pic it will make sense lol. Then pre much make the wing then work your way inwards. That's just my method- something different might work out for you. Depends on your eye shape and the type of eyeliner you got.

Speaking on type of eyeliner- a felt tip eyeliner would be a good one for beginners. Pencils are hard to work with while liquid liners are too messy for a beginner to work with. Definitely get one with a thin tip such as Maybelline Master Precise or Maybelline HyperSharp Wing Liquid Liner.

Good luck <3

Hey guys,

Any advice on how to choose the perfect lipstick shade? Sometimes it feels like the lip colours I choose are either too light or it looks too similar to my skin tone.

I've read too many articles and watched too many videos on this and their technique of 'identifying your undertone' just makes this even more confusing -_-

I think when it comes to finding the perfect lipstick shade- you gotta check what the shade looks like on someone who has a similar skin colour to you. I like to research online popular Asian beauty influencers- my go to is usually Tina Yong (Australian-Vietnamese Youtube beauty guru!). However to really get into the specifics of things- you do need to determine your undertones.

You gotta figure out either way if you are a cool, warm or neutral undertone. Look at your veins- blue/purple veins = cool, blue/green = neutral, green/olive = warm.

If you go one websites, they usually specify if a lipstick shade is for a cool, neutral or warm undertone. I'm a cool undertone and I feel like muted colours look better on me than bright colours. This will differ for a neutral or warm undertone person. But since I'm also Asian, I'm also yellow undertone so colours similar to yellow- I tend to avoid as they look super tacky on me (corals and oranges are a no no for me!). If you also look at the colour wheel, complimentary colours are those opposite to each other. I find purple lipstick nice on me though this depends what type of purple it is. Plum purple is nice but a lilac will perhaps not suit me.

I suppose it does take a bit of trial and error with finding your perfect lipstick shade. The natural colour of your lips can affect the colour of your lipstick as well. Just keep on swatching lipsticks and find a nice pretty shade !! At the end of the day, any lipstick shade can be the perfect one if you feel confident in it! cheesy but v true!

Recently got myself 'The Ordinary's Niacinamide Serum'. It's meant to reduce skin blemishes and scars. Super keen to see how this product goes since it's been hyped up so much and I want to see if it actually works. I've got it on right now and it feels very matte and sticky? Hopefully it will work. Has anyone tried 'The Ordinary' before?

Sorry I just came across this accidentally but really interested to hear about this! For several years now I’ve had a redness on my face with small pimple ish things haha. My ophthalmologist suggested mimomycin for acne rosacea, I tried like 15 creams and such.. a different doctor recently recommended to me a medication called niacinamide that she said was only made by a specific amcal in south melbourne. It’s basically a serum applied twice a day. I didn’t know the ordinary made this, ive only tried their retinol treatment which did nothing. Supposedly my issue is with oily skin. I found the serum when applied is quite sticky, but it’s supposed to absorb rather than be rinsed, so when it dries it does leave quite a matte feeling. However, whilst not instantly effective, I find when I wake up in the morning, much of skin redness isn’t present. My doctor said to try it in the long term, so I’m excited if this will finally be the thing that gives me results. Please let us know how you find it!

I love the ordinary! Personally, I've tried their niacinamide, lactic acid and hyaloronic acid serums, and it has made such a difference on reducing my pimples/acne scars. It does take a while for results to show, so consistency is key.

Hey guys,

I just came back from Indonesia and of course, came back with a haul. So here I am, doing a review for all of the products I bought. We'll start of first with Etude House. I was actually excited to go to Indonesia because of their Etude House stores, only to be disappointed when I found out all of their stores shut down (we literally went to 4 different malls to track down their store). However, I still came home with a crap tonne of sheet masks. 30 in fact. They range from Green Tea, Tea Tree, Aloe, Manuka Honey and Hyaluronic Acid. I have a normal skin type so whenever I buy masks, I'm always going for hydration. And these sheets masks were ridiculously cheap, like 90 cents per sheet mask. (Usually in Australia sheet masks range fro $2.50 to $4)

Then I bought the Sephora Miniature Palette in the shade Cookie. As expected, the price is the same (just a direct conversion from IDR to AUD). While I do believe it should be priced a little cheaper, it actually works well, i.e. the colours blend nicely and they're very pigmented. My cousin (who is a MUA) used the palette and it worked nicely, which was surprising because I never expected the Sephora Collection to work well. Is it the best palette out there? No, but it gives me a place to start, as an eyeshadow noob.

I also bought the Nyx Powder Puff Lippie. I didn't expect myself buying this product since I was looking for the Nyx Lip Lingerie Lip Gloss (which was surprising since we were in an actual Nyx store rather than a drugstore). When the saleswoman showed me the tester, it was actually very pigmented. But when I opened it up and tried it, it was actually a bit oily with a bit of pigment. I was so confused because the product I bought was different to the tester. It was also a little bit streaky, which was something Tati didn't say when she reviewed it. So now I just happened to have an oily lip product that I'll probably use around the house just so it will eventually run out.

Another product I bought was the Maybelline Hypersharp eyeliner. This was a product my cousin recommended, and also happened to be on discount at the drugstore (there was a promotion where everything was on 30% off for the whole week). I'm not sure if there's a difference between this one and the Maybelline HyperSharp Wing Liquid Liner. I mean, the packaging looks similar (apart from the different colour packaging). Anyway, it was kinda easy to use since it's more like a brush tip than a felt tip. My only problem is that since I was working in an air-conditioned room with poor lighting and a lack of stability, I was taking way too long to apply it and eventually caused it to dry out. So I had to leave the house with kinda-equal looking lined eyes and leave it alone for the whole night.

And finally, I bought the Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit. This was a product I see a lot of beauty gurus rave about, especially Tati. When I found out Wet n Wild was sold at the drugstore, I was making sure that I was getting my hands on it since Wet n Wild isn't available here. A lot of the products left were either metallics or very bold red lip colours (the shade range I haven't gotten into). When I look at the shades, I thought that I was gonna like the shade Rebel Rose. But when I swatched it (which swatched poorly since it was dried out), it looked a bit too deep and I haven't explored the deeper, bolder shades (I've only looked at the peachy-nude to the lighter browny-nude colours). After some digging, I finally found a different shade, which happened to be the shade Nudist Peach. They didn't have a tester for this shade and my mum was paying for the products so I had to impulsive-buy this product. The shade looked pretty (judging from the bottle) but from what I remembered from the online swatches, Nudist Peach seemed a bit too bright. I was a bit worried that it wasn't the shade for me but once I tested it on my lips, it actually wasn't obnoxiously bright. It smells weird and was a little bit streaky but you can layer it since it dries quickly. Then I did a wear test when I went to a family dinner. It was a little bit drying but not as bad as the Nyx Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick. It was very light and transfer-proof. It didn't really start to crumble until they brought out the noodles. The product on the corners of my lips started to fade away and by the end of the night, it did start to crack. That being said, I'd still wear this liquid lip since it was light, comfortable and transfer-proof.

Overall, I was surprised about was that there are a lot of brands I bumped into that have been talked a lot by beauty gurus. I mentioned Wet n Wild, but I also bumped into Catrice, LA Girl and Makeup Forever. I was also shocked to see an actual Nyx store there since we don't really have Nyx stores here in Sydney. I was also impressed by how cheap drugstore makeup was in Indonesia. For example, my mum bought the Maybelline SuperStay Foundation, where the original price was ~$10 (a bit less than $10 due to the 30% discount) whereas it's sold at $18-$25 (depending on which chemist you go to). That being said, there wasn't a large variety of brands at Sephora, which was a bit disappointing. I was hoping to see Tarte or Huda Beauty there but they didn't have it. From the two Sephora stores I went to, they had a large wall for the Sephora Collection and then the brands were on the higher end (Dior, Marc Jacobs) rather than the "moderately priced" brands (Tarte, Zoeva). One thing to point out is that the testers there were horrible, especially the lip products. The lip products were dried out, and this was a common occurrence when it came to cheaper makeup (drugstore, Miniso), whereas the Sephora testers still worked.

LoI feel like I'm a bit biased about Fenty Beauty because I only tried one product of theirs ahahaha. Should've clarified that their lipgloss let me down (good formula but wasn't as universal as they advertised it lol). I'll like to try one of their highlighters one day.

Hello and welcome back! Decided to impulse buy Fenty Beauty's Stunna Lip Paint liquid lipstick in the shade 'Uncensored' (the red one) because I like to impulse buy makeup when I'm stressed lol. But also I've been wanting to buy a new red lipstick for a while now since I literally cannot stand my NARS one anymore (it dries my lips so much). I was debating getting another Jeffree Star lipstick (since I LOVE its formula) but ended up going with Fenty Beauty when I saw it in a makeup tutorial by Catriona Gray aka Miss Universe 2018 aka one of my new idols and decided to just go with Fenty Beauty ahaha. Also I was impatient and didn't want to wait 14 days just to get a Jeffree Star lipstick from online.

I bought the Fenty Beauty lipstick today and the red seemed a bit bright for my skin tone but ended up getting used to it. I also love how light the formula is! Just exactly like Jeffree Star's formula for his Velour Liquid Lipsticks. Although it does transfers a bit more than the Jeffree Star liquid not gonna lie. The applicator is unconventional to what I've seen from other liquid lipsticks but actually works well.

I've also grown to love my Fenty Beauty lip gloss which is good.

Has anyone ever tried Tarte eyeshadows? I've kinda been eyeing the Tarte Flirt Eyeshadow Palette for awhile now.

Omg what shade did you get? Girl you better get ready for the Jeffree Star x Shane Dawson palette!

I haven't tried the Tarte eyeshadows just because I feel like the colours are too unoriginal in my opinion. Though they look very pigmented from the tutorials I see all around Youtube and Instagram.

Oh noo I didn't get a new Jeffree Star lipstick aha. I only said what I said because I was debating between getting a JS lipstick or trying the Fenty Beauty lipstick so I can try a new product. I honestly wished I got another Jeffree Star lipstick because the Fenty Beauty one keeps transferring everywhere! To be fair I did eat something oily today but even my Jeffree Star lipstick didn't transfer as much when I ate oily food. There goes my $36 lol rip

Hello Poet!

I got some questions for you before I start making some recommendations !!

- Face cream: What type of skin do you have? Do you want a day and/or night cream? Did you just want to moisturise your face or did you want a face cream that also spot corrects/brightens your skin/etc.) Did you want a natural product or would any product be fine?
- Eyeshadows: Did you want more of a bold look or natural look? Would you prefer a palette or single eyeshadows?
- Lipstick/gloss/stain: What colours did you want to explore? What finish did you want- matte or satin?

Some super nice face creams include La Roche-Posay, Sukin and Neutrogena. Some nice eyeshadows include Australis and Rimmel. As for lipstick, Maybelline, NYX and Rimmel are good! The specifics in each brand really depend on you and what you want from each product :)

wow I didn't realise this was so complicated >.< sorry!

Face: I have between normal to oily skin.
Spot correction would be preferable but not vital, and day cream. Natural is also preferable but not an issue, my skin isn't sensitive
Eyeshadows: more natural, palette
Lip things: darker pinks, no bright colours, satin, moisturising maybe?

Thanks! I'll look into those brands :)

Kinda recently invested in the Mecca To Save Face SPF50+ and omg.
A) smells great
B) not oily like most sunscreens
C) doesn't make me break out

I bought just the small tube to try it out but I'm thinking I'll end up investing in the big tube!

Face cream: Normal to oily skin is usually fine to find products for! So even Neutrogena, Sukin or Nivea should be. French brands such as La Roche-Posay, Avene and Bioderma are quite nice and have a nice feel to the skin (but are ridiculously expensive. My LRP cleanser alone costs $25!)

Eyeshadows: Even the Nude palette from Rimmel or the Blushed Nudes palette from Maybelline should be perfect!

Lip colours: Any of the bullet lipsticks from L'Oreal or Revlon should be good. Maybelline is good too! I know Rimmel has satin finished lipsticks but they come in liquid form so not exactly moisturising? Nude by Nature and Natio lipsticks has some nice natural ingredients in them so they could work as well?

Hope this helps!

I'd also like to add that Australis, especially their Neutralize palette, is a great palette. Their shadows are really smooth and pigmented, but I did see a review that these shadows can shatter easily if you drop them so be careful with that! At the moment (according to the Priceline website) they're on 30% off at the moment :)

The Australis Lip Slip Lip Oil is also a great product- it was actually one of the first lip products I bought. It was a great way for introducing me into the makeup world. It's not sticky like a lip gloss but it's pigmented and felt comfortable on my lips. The Nyx Butter Gloss is also another great lip product. It's not sticky and very comfortable, and you have a wide range of shades to choose from. It also smells really nice, maybe a vanilla scent. It can be quite tempting to buy the Nyx Lip Lingerie Gloss since the tube looks bigger but for some reason there's only 3.4mL of product whereas the Butter Gloss at 8mL of product and is cheaper.

Hope this helps!

I use this brush cleaning spray from Sportsgirl (got it for Christmas aha). So you spray it to your brush, swirl it around on a paper towel, wash brush with water then lay it down on a towel for it to dry. That's pretty much the most common method to clean brushes anyways! I know makeup sponges have different cleaning methods.

It's been a stressful week so you know what that means: retail therapy. Priceline had a bunch of stuff on 50% off so obviously I would take advantage of the sale. Here's a picture of my mini-haul.

I'll start of with the Australis lipstick. I will say it's very comfortable to wear on the lips and the transfer isn't too bad. Like, it transfers a bit but it's not to the point where the all of the product goes onto your mug. It feels light to wear and not overly waxy.

The Nude by Nature mascara wasn't the best mascara but it wasn't the worst. I liked how the brush of the mascara was small enough for my short, Asian lashes. When I used the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara, the brush was a bit big and I would always end up smudging the product on my lid which was a bit annoying. I feel like the formula of the Nude by Nature mascara can be a bit wet. Like, when on one side it gets a little bit clumpy but on the other side, my lashes are nice and separated and they curl upwards. While I do find this a bit annoying, I will say that I accidentally took a nap wearing this mascara and when I woke up, the mascara didn't smudge so it does get some points there.

As for the Nyx eyeshadow, I was actually tossing up between this one and the Maybelline Lemonade Craze palette but I figured that I would get the Nyx one because I don't really use yellows or pinks so I feel like if I were to get that palette, it would kinda be a waste since I wouldn't be using those shades. (I will say, I'm not usually a fan of Maybelline shadows but they were pigmented, especially the shade 'Sugar Coated'). I've played with a few shades from the Nyx palette and I like how it's buildable on the lid. I'm still a beginner with shadows so I don't think I'm too comfortable in playing with extremely pigmented shadows (sorry Jeffree Star!) but it has enough pigment for me to work with. I swatched a few of the shimmer shades and they're definitely pigmented. I do notice a bit of kickback in the pan but I'm not too fussed about it. And I know that the palette I chose is a generic warm neutral colour story but I feel like it's a nice palette where I could wear one of the shades on the whole lid and that would be my everyday look.

Finally, the Nyx Lip Lingerie gloss. I find it funny how I did say that the Butter Gloss would be better to buy because it has more product and it's cheaper, and usually I would go for the Butter Gloss but heck, both were on half-price and I wanted to do a comparison on the quality. I will say the Lip Lingerie Gloss is a bit thicker than the Butter Gloss, but not too sticky. Apart from that, I don't think there's a big of a difference apart from that the Lip Lingerie has a bigger doe foot applicator. I will say, I found it easier to find a nude shade from the Lip Lingerie shade range. A lot of the shades in the Butter Gloss range were either too pink or too brown so I would spend 30 minutes trying to pick a shade, whereas a lot of the Lip Lingerie shades had a lot more nudes.

I use the Dermal lip balm (both the normal one and the SPF 50+ one) and it does WONDERS for my dry lips. I also like to use a lip scrub (any should be fine- I personally use the Lush one) before then putting the lip balm on top. Though, hydration is definitely key from avoiding having chapped lips.

Think it was a good idea to get the NYX palette instead of the Maybelline Lemonade Craze one- I've heard bad reviews about it lol. NYX is better quality for eyeshadow anyways. I've got the NYX ultimate shadow palette in the Bright edition (the colourful one). I'm a big fan of using yellow, orange and pink on my eyelids aha (my favourite eyeshadow look!)

Good to hear that the warm neutral palette has great quality as well :)

Oh lmao, I remember seeing a review on it (I think it was Emily Noel's review) and she said that it was ok for a drug store (from what I could remember). And I think one of the reviews on the Priceline website said they were glad that the palette offered some shades that weren't your usual neutral shade so I did consider it for a while. Idk, maybe if I did proper research on it then maybe there would be some bad reviews but one of their shades was actually pigmented when I swatched it (of course, not as pigmented as an Australis shadow or the Nyx palette).

Maybelline's typically not known for their eyeshadows anyways. Like I have one Maybelline eyeshadow palette that I use and it's not super pigmented and takes a while to blend in. I only still have it because I'll feel bad if I just threw the entire palette out aha. If you wanted a palette with bright colours, would definitely recommend the NYX Brights palette. Rimmel has some decent ones as well!

Oooh could this be a potential tutorial? Sister Bea, we need an updated GRWM ;) (or at least a "what's in my makeup bag")

OOOhh Sister Olivia I've been wanting to do an updated tutorial because I look back on my old one and it's so bad omg (I didn't use foundation or bronzer like what the heck). I could do like a 'what's in my makeup collection' type video. I have so much makeup it's ridiculous. No wonder I'm broke ahahah

Could potentially help people and beginners here to find products that could potentially work with them! My friend is starting to get into makeup and he got the Morphe X James Charles palette (very jealous!) so this video can work with AN and my friend. We shall see ;)

I've noticed that I've been leaning more towards traditional bullet lipsticks instead of liquid lipsticks- liquid ones tend to dry my lips out and especially with Winter coming, I think I'm gonna take a break from them. Although Jeffree Star's lipstick still remain to be the BEST liquid lipstick formula because it's so light on the lips.

Going back to the topic of traditional bullet lipsticks- I got my hands on the Sunnies Face Fluffmatte lipsticks (Filipino makeup brand) and the lipsticks are quite nice! A little bit drying (they're matte so no surprises there) but good coverage. They're $10 each which is hella cheap for good quality lipsticks.

I was hoping if anyone could suggest some nice traditional bullet lipsticks- not too drying, satin finish lipstick would be nice. I've got some MAC lipsticks but they're expensive (got them as a gift) so I was hoping to hear any suggestions about good bullet lipsticks :)

I'd recommend lipsticks from Flower Beauty. I have the Mix n Matte Lip Duo where it comes with a matte lipstick and a metallic gloss so it's great for both an everyday look or if I'm going out. The lipstick is very comfortable to wear and it doesn't really have a waxy smell to it. It's only $10 at Chemist Warehouse so it's quite affordable. I don't have the Petal Pout Lipsticks but I would assume the lipstick would have a similar formula (from the reviews I watched I've hear great reviews on these lipsticks). There are a lot more shades to choose from in comparison to the Mix n Matte shades and they do offer cream and matte lipsticks. And it's $10 as well so very affordable!

Apart from Flower Beauty, Maybelline, L'Oreal and Revlon do have great traditional lipsticks.

Hey guys,

I'm currently looking to expand my makeup brush collection and I've narrowed it down to either EcoTools or Nude by Nature. The brush kits I narrowed down are at the same price point, so I guess out of the two of them, which one would you guys recommend?

I use EcoTools, they feel nice and soft/good quality and don't shed much if at all and I've washed them plenty of times

I use Nude by the Nature ones and they're pretty swell. Real Techniques is good as well. I've only got one brush from Eco Tools so can't really make a good judgement.

i've been using a natio foundation (https://www.priceline.com.au/brand/natio/natio-pure-mineral-foundation-50-ml). they don't have many shades but it is fairly lightweight and was fine on my skin.

It's been awhile since I've done a makeup haul so I guess it's time to do a mini review.

Flower Beauty Petal Pout Lipsticks
There was a 2 for 3 sale at Chemist Warehouse a few weeks ago so I used this as an opportunity to buy lipsticks. I bought the shades Naked Blush, Warm Sand and Crimson Crush. I was a bit worried that Crimson Crush would be a bit too bold because I haven't ventured in the red lip colours. Crimson Crush is more of a terracotta red than a bright red lip but it was kinda out of my comfort zone. But when I tried it on it actually looked nice and the colour is still wearable for everyday use. Naked Blush, on the other hand, is a pale, pinky nude colour and Warm Sand is a bit of a mix between the two colours. I feel like Flower Beauty lipsticks have been very consistent, in the sense that the lipsticks are more on the waxy side but not too waxy where you need to warm it up at the back of your hand, but not as smooth as a Maybelline lipstick. These lipsticks do transfer but the lipstick marks are very light. One thing I waill say is that I'd like a bit more nude shades in the collection since the rest of the shades are bold reds and purples (of course since Drew Barrymore has an iconic red lip).

Maybelline Made For All Lipstick
Another lipstick lol. When I saw Nyma Tang review these lipsticks, I got really excited because the shades are supposed to suit all skin tones. I bought the shade Mauve For Me (which wasn't one of the shades Nyma had). The lipstick is nowhere near transfer-proof (I probably need to reapply two or three times during the day) but it is a really pretty colour and it's very smooth, not as waxy as the Petal Pout lipsticks.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer
I've been saying for months that I need a concealer but I never did lmao. It also doesn't help that I got a chemical burn after swatching a Revlon concealer on the back of my hand. It wasn't until when my friend recommended me the Fit Me concealer since I didn't want a full coverage concealer but still has enough coverage to cover up my acne scars. The thing that's great about the Fit Me concealer is that the small doe foot applicator lets me use it for acne scars specifically. I bought the shade Fair (which surprised me because I didn't think my skin was that light) and it does blend nicely and looks natural. I did hear from some reviews that it does crease, and that's because it doesn't set straight away so you need to set it with some form of powder.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder
Speaking of concealer, I also bought the powder in the shade Sandstorm (another recommendation from my friend). I was a bit worried about setting a concealer with a pressed powder instead of a loose setting powder but my concealer doesn't crease during the day. The thing that kinda confuses me about the powder is that sometimes I see small flecks of glitter on my face after applying the powder (and it's not highlighter lol). I also wish that the packaging was more travel-friendly, like in a compact packaging with the mirror and everything in case if I'm running late and don't have time to put on concealer in the morning lol (plus it makes it easier for me to use other makeup products like lipstick on the go).

Elf Flawless Face Brush
I was kinda sad that I wasn't gonna be able to get my hands on the Nude By Nature brush set before the sale at Chemist Warehouse ends. However, I've been applying my powder initially with my beauty sponge but then I started using one of my eyeshadow brushes but it wasn't really comfortable applying powder with a small brush so I bought the Elf Flawless Face Brush. I like how weighted the brush is and the overall appearance of the brush looks nice. I also like how it's fluffy enough for me to apply my powder but it also has a flatter side where I can apply my highlighter. I was a bit confused with the difference between the brushes with the white packaging and the ones with the black packaging since the price is different.

Elf Baked Highlighter and Blush
I bought this in the hopes that I could get a blush and the highlighter was there as a bonus. The blush looked a bit glittery but I was hoping that if I scrape the top layer it would be matte underneath since a lot of Elf face products require you to scrape the top off to get the product. But nope, it was a highlighter lmao. I wasn't sure what to do with this but I somehow managed to make it work. I thought I'd like the champagne highlighter more but I actually like the pink highlighter more. My face gets naturally flushed during the day so the pink highlighter would go with my cheeks. The highlighter can be blinding but I would blend it out with my Elf brush (that has a bit of pressed powder) to make sure it's not too blinding, which makes it look more like a natural glow.

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick
After months I finally bought the Rimmel liquid lip lol. And yes, I bought another lipstick. I keep saying that I should buy it but whenever I walk into Priceline or Chemist Warehouse I get distracted with other products lmao. I bought the shade Be My Baby, which is kinda like in between a pink and browny nude (lol idk how to describe shades). I did a bit of a wear test and I'm very impressed with it. It didn't transfer on my mug, it didn't crumble after eating oily fried rice and still managed to survive after some aggressive toast eating. And the colour does look quite natural. What was also surprising is that it wasn't drying and it's very light on the lips.

So that's my makeup update (rip my bank account lmao).

On another note, anyone excited for the Revolution Beauty launch in Priceline?

Time for a quick makeup haul (as inspired by Olivia- thanks girl!)

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation
Never really thought about this foundation 'til Jeffree Star reviewed it on his channel and I loved it! I put the foundation on as soon as I got home and so far it's great. It's kinda hydrating but kinda drying at the same time (perhaps it was the setting powder and my old concealer that's drying my face I think). I got Shade 54 and I'm not 100% sure if its my colour or not. Looks fine in some lights but it looks a bit light in other lights. The foundation itself is a buildable medium coverage and has a nice natural finish. I just wanted to take a break from my other Matte foundation which has been drying me out this Winter! The foundation is also meant to have Vitamin C, Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E which will help with skin regeneration and brightening up my face- I hope this is true.

Sally Hansen Diamond Base and Top Coat
I trust Sally Hansen to have a good base coat so am praying that this doesn't chip away my nail polish colour easily!

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Creme Lipstick
Not exactly a haul since I didn't buy this recently. I found a free sample in my makeup bag from ages ago and I'm surprised it hasn't expired or melted or anything (yes I'm looking at you Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics). It's quite moisturising! Would love to buy another one but it's deadly expensive. Plus I have so many lipsticks. I need to stop buying lipsticks ahhh.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Jawbreaker Eyeshadow Palette
I was very excited when I first saw Jeffree release the shades on his Instagram and couldn't wait for it to come. Although I was somewhat a bit disappointed when the shades weren't as pigmented as he hyped them up to be. Not sure if it's my makeup brushes, amateur skills or I happen to have a palette from a shitty batch. Either way- the colours are wonderful. Though they are technically summer shades and Jeffree did technically release them during Summer in the US and Winter here in Australia. Though I'm not afraid to have a pop of colour on my eyelids during this cold cold season.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
This lip mask have saved my dried lips this Winter. I got the Berry one and it smells so so nice! The lip mask feels like a heavier version of a lip balm- makes sense since you do have to wear it before going to bed. Though I feel like I'm building a tolerance for it because it's not as effective as before.

Fluff Casual Cosmetics: Bronzing Duet
For the past month, I have seen ads of the brand 'Fluff Casual Cosmetics' on my Instagram feed and I literally told myself not to buy it. But the packaging looked so fancy and the ads were so unique so I went on their website and next think you know the bronzing duet has been added onto my cart and is now being shipped to me as we speak. The Bronzing duet is basically a combination of their Bronzing powder and Kabuki brush (was cheaper to get both and get free shipping than to buy the powder alone and pay for shipping). Anyways its meant to look super natural and you only need moisturiser and you're all set to put the bronzer on top. Can't wait for it to come!

I really wanted to try out Em Cosmetics (owned by Michelle Phan aka Youtube's OG Beauty Guru) but the shipping is twice the actual product itself which is RIDICULOUS. For now, I shall steer away from Em Cosmetics until they get cheap shipping to Australia.

Oof the shade!

And same with the lipstick problem. Lipstick hoarders unit!

That's a shame that the shades weren't that pigmented- the arm swatches looked pretty and I would assume Jeffree's product would have the best quality. Was it the whole palette or was it a few shades that didn't work out?

Though I'm not afraid to have a pop of colour on my eyelids during this cold cold season.
Still waiting for an updated GRWM- perhaps a winter makeup tutorial?

And speaking of hauls, Priceline is doing a 1/2 price sale so guess who's going to retail therapy this week?

I kinda need to remind myself that I barely use lipsticks ahha (especially in this season) to stop myself from buying lipsticks.

I genuinely can't tell if I just have bad makeup brushes or a bad batch. Like they're pigmented but not super pigmented like in Jeffree's swatch video and Instagram posts. I haven't actually played with the entire palette but the ones I've tried aren't super pigmented. The ones I found super pigmented were Jawbreaker, Delicious and Licorice.

Aha already went earlier this morning but only got the Bourjois foundation, Maybelline fit me concealer and the Sally Hansen base coat because I need to stop spending all my money on makeup aha. Can't wait to hear about your Priceline haul Sister Olivia !!

So I just came back from retail therapy and holy smokes it was stressful to shop there because it was so crowded! (Side note: this is more like a mini haul considering how I've already bought a lot of makeup lmao).

Nude By Nature Essential Collection
After a month of wanting to buy this collection (and missing out the Chemist Warehouse sale ;-;) I finally bought the Essential Collection! It was also the last one there so I'm feel lucky lol. All of the brushes feel very soft and I like how each brush is labelled (for brush noobs like me). I've tried all of them except for the lip brush, eyeliner brush and the blending brush.

Starting with the concealer brush, I was a bit confused on how to use it because I was so used to using a beauty sponge. I think I just need to get used to not applying as much concealer since the brush doesn't absorb as much product. It felt a bit weird because I'm used to using a damp sponge so using it dry was a bit of an experience (was I even supposed to wet it lmao). Apart from my confusion, it did apply my concealer nicely and I'm surprised I don't see any streaks of concealer on my face.

The powder brush was nice and soft to use. I will say the brush is a lot smaller than my Elf Flawless Face Brush, so I guess it could also be used for a blush brush as well, but I think I'll just stick to using it for my pressed powder. The kabuki brush was a bit confusing since I thought the powder brush should be enough for my pressed powder but I guess I have another brush for some loose/pressed powder? I decided to use it as my blush brush. Even though it's small, it still does its job of applying blush to my cheeks. Then we have the eyeshadow brush. On the box it says to use it to put an eyeshadow base all over the lid but I'm using it as my highlighter brush.

And then we have the makeup bag itself. I was surprised to see those elastic brush holders in the bag- I thought it was just gonna be like a pencil case type bag. I'm also impressed that I can fit my face products in there. At the moment, it's carrying two pressed powders (I'll get to this in the next section lol), concealer, blush and highlighter. It also fits in my bag so now I can actually do my makeup on the train rather than rushing in the morning lol.

L'oreal Wake Up and Glow Melon Dollar Baby Blush
Before buying this, I was constantly tossing over Melon Dollar Baby and Life's A Peach. I saw a lot of good reviews of Life's A Peach and how they say it gives a warm glow (kinda like a blush + bronzer shade) and it's a buildable colour. But when I swatched it today, it looked a bit more of an orange colour. This was the first blush I've bought so I thought Melon Dollar Baby felt like the right shade for me. In the summer my cheeks can get naturally flushed so Melon Dollar Baby felt like the nice shade to wear, especially during the winter. One thing I'd like to point out is that because Life's A Peach had a mirror in it, I thought that Melon Dollar Baby would have a mirror as well. But when I got home, there was no mirror. I spent 30 minutes trying to pry it open there's no mirror. I was so excited because I'm desperate for a compact mirror which is why I'm carrying two pressed powders at the moment because one of them has a mirror in it (yes I'm that desperate).

Apart from the packaging issue, I do love the colour. It's light but it makes it easy for me to build it up. I can build up the colour during the winter and when it's summer, I can lightly apply it so my face doesn't look too pink. Plus, it smells like watermelon so that's a bonus. And once again, there was only one Melon Dollar Baby blush when I was there so lucky me!

Also, since when did Priceline sell Physician's Formula?! When I was waiting in line to pay, there was the discounted products near the cash registers and I stumbled across the Physician's Formula Butter Blush (although it doesn't look like a matte blush so I didn't get it).

I've tried the Rosewater one and I personally don't like it. I don't find it hydrating at all surprisingly. I heard if you wanted to get a setting spray, probs best to invest in a product that's actually a setting spray rather than getting a face spray. But then again that is the opinion of a few, so you can always try the $10!! I've heard other people do like the product.

Starting with the concealer brush, I was a but confused on how to use it because I was so used to using a beauty sponge. I think I just need to get used to not applying as much concealer since the brush doesn't absorb as much product. So so weird, I have this same experience too with their concealer brush!!!

Sorry to bump an old thread, just wondering if anyone can explain facial moisturiser to me. Should I be using one? Why does it feel like I break out whenever I do? How do I pick a good one?

Slapping oil on my pores seems counterintuitive to me.... but heaps of people seem to make it work well.

I used to break out a lot as well a few months ago but what I've found is if I reduced my daily sugar intake, everything suddenly went away. Unless it's something to do with hormones or an issue you can't control, it's always better to check your diet and lifestyle and what not before putting artificial products on your skin imo. =)

iirc oily skin can also cause pimples? idk I'm no expert on this field but it seems counter-intuitive to me too.

Just use a lighter moisturiser :) Simple make a good one for cheap, and I also like Sukin (particularly because they're a natural skincare brand, cruelty free etc and I have super sensitive skin and they don't make me break out)

Hey! Depends on your skin type. Do you have normal, oily, dry, combination, etc?

The oil free moisturiser from Neutrogena is pretty swell! Leaves your face super moisturised whilst not being oily!

Thanks bea! I have no idea what skin type I have. I'd say it's probably somewhere between normal and oily. The Neutrogena one looks great; I'll have to check it out!

As for my go to brands, I love Etude House, The Face Shop and Innisfree. -snip- Although Innisfree is difficult to find in Australia, they recently set up an Australian-based Instagram account, but I'm not sure what they're planning here.
Sorry to bring up something a year old, but what are your updated thoughts on Innisfree face products? I'm about to sample a few of their products, but I wanted to hear someone else's thoughts first. I tend to have normal to dry skin, but my sibling (who I'll be sharing products with to cut on expenses, as I dislike putting many face products on my face and... uh, I honestly forget most of the time) is a bit more on the drier side.

Hey there,

Keep in mind that I’ve only used Innisfree sheet masks so my experiences are quite limited.

For context, I have normal to dry skin as well and I’ve never really had any skin issues (with the exception of a pimple here and there). Personally I think the best way to start getting into skin care or even trying out a new product is sheet masks because you don’t need to worry about starting a full-on skin care routine (they do recommend using a toner before using a sheet mask but I’ve never really bothered with using toners lol). I’d recommend using tea tree, green tea and aloe vera sheet masks - these are great for hydration. I’d avoid using flower-based products because these products have alcohol in them for the fragrance and alcohol can be harsh on your skin.

I also don’t like putting too many products on my face so I would suggest a sheet mask once a week so you’re not overwhelming your skin.

Hope this helps!

Hey guys,

It’s been so long since I’ve written a review. I’ve actually been being makeup in the background (as you do), I just keep forgetting t write a review on all the products I’ve bought rip :/ Here’s a random assortment of reviews I have (apologies if I’ve doubled-up on reviews. I can’t remember what I’ve reviewed and what I haven’t whoops).

Revlon Kiss Cloud Blotted Lip Colour
This was an impulsive purchase at Chemist Warehouse. The purpose of this product is to be a lip tint, kinda like Etude House’s lip tints, except it’s a lot more mousse-y than their water tints. It’s easier to apply than the Etude House lip tints, but it does smell kinda weird, almost like an oily smell. It also tends to be a little bit drying and the product likes to gather up in the lines on my lips. Didn’t use it much so I don’t really have much to say about it.

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipsticks
I remember buying the lipstick in the shade “Be My Baby” last year after eyeing it for about a year. I really loved it when I first bought it; it’s very light and mousse-y and it was easy to use, especially for beginner liquid lipstick users. However, the more I wore it, the more I realised it highlighted the cracks in my lips. It also started to fade and transfer on cups (not like a regular lipstick). There is also inconsistency with the formulas. I bought another shade towards the end of last year (shade: Pink Blink) and this formula was a bit more difficult to apply on my lips. It didn’t have the same mousse-y texture and it would end up applying inconsistently on my lips, along with the same issues of transferring and cracking. However, I liked the shade “Pink Blink” more than “Be My Baby” since it had more of a pink to it, but I liked the formula of “Be My Baby.” Funnily enough, when I was going through my makeup (since I haven’t been cleaning it up rip), the texture is a little bit more runny and the smell is a bit stronger than I remember. When I swatched in on my hand, it didn’t dry as fast as it used to. The smell was like a mix of oil and really expensive perfume (not in a good way lol). It did not look good so I threw out “Be My Baby” - not sure if I’m gonna throw out “Pink Blink” yet since I haven’t had it as long as “Be My Baby.”

Australis Fresh & Flawless Pressed Powder
One of my biggest complaints when using the RImmel pressed powder was its packaging. It wasn’t in a compact for so it was difficult to do my makeup on the train. This is why I like the Australis one a lot more. Plus, it does a great job of setting my concealer. I don’t have much to complain about since it does the job. I will point out that when I use a makeup brush, it can have a lot of fall out if you swirl the product (big noob move for me lol). It’s better to gently tap the surface of the powder with your brush instead of swirling.

3CE Velvet Lip Tint
This was another impulsive purchase off Yesstyle. In fact, my friends and I were doing a group haul and my friend wanted to get free shipping so I bought a lipstick lol. 3CE is a notoriously expensive Korean beauty product (I’ve heard my friends compare it to Mac). While I’d love to buy their eyeshadows, it wasn’t on discount ;-; I bought the shade Twin Rose, which was their darkest lip shade (a lot of them were pinks and oranges). I really like the lip tint. It’s almost has the same texture as the Revlon Kiss Cloud Lip Tint but it doesn’t have a strong smell and it fades into a nice colour. It also doesn’t gather in the cracks of my lips. When you first apply it, it’s very sheer, but that’s the beauty of it since it’s very buildable. It does transfer though, so keep that in mind.

Maybelline SuperStay Liquid Lipsticks
I bought one of these lipsticks two years ago in the shade “Poet.” I wasn’t a huge fan of it because of how sticky it is and how it took so long to dry. I bought the shade “Founder” last year during a Priceline sale after much deliberation because I wasn’t a huge fan of it. BUT I actually like it a lot more now. The best way to apply a Maybelline SuperStay lipstick is to remove excess product off the applicator and onto the side of the bottle since the lipstick is very thick. Maybe it’s because I was a big noob back in the day but now I realise how important it is to remove excess product. It actually dries a lot faster and it’s easy to apply on the lips. I do have to apply a bit more product towards the waterline of my lips (or using the wise words of Safiya Nygaard, the butthole of the lips lol). It is still sticky, but not as bad as before. It does still hurt a bit to take off the lipstick using a usual Garnier Micellar Water (pink bottle) but it’s a lot easier to take off with an oil-based cleanser. I liked it so much I bought two more shades: “Self-Starter” and “Artist”. Fun fact: “Founder” was my first bold lip colour. I’ve been buying a lot of mid-tone nudes for over a year but “Founder” has a really nice colour to wear anywhere. It does stay for long periods of time, unless you’re eating something oily, that’s when the lipstick wears down. This is why it’s important to use an oil-based makeup remover so it’s easier to remove the lipstick.

ColourPop Luxe Lipstick
I bought this lipstick in a ColourPop group haul with my friends and bought the shade “Hello Stranger.” I remember seeing Judy say that this was one of her top ten ColourPop lipsticks, and I was really inspired to buy more bold lip colours after that Maybelline lipstick. This lipstick is really nice; it smells nice, it applies smoothly, it doesn’t dry and the colour is great. In fact, the colour looks a bit similar to “Founder”, which I didn’t realise but I don’t mind in case I don’t feel like wearing a liquid lipstick. It does transfer but I’m not too fussed about it. I carry it in my makeup bag all the time and I like wearing it on a regular day.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water in Oil (blue bottle)
I remember Emily George recommending me the Garnier 2 in 1 cleanser (purple bottle) two years ago as one of her favourite makeup removers. However, for some reason, I can never find it at Chemist Warehouse, Priceline or Big W, which is strange. This is why I moved to the blue bottle, and I’ve been enjoying it. It smells like my hyaluronic acid sheet masks, which is weird because when I read the ingredients list, it doesn’t contain hyaluronic acid. It also doesn’t leave an oily residue on my face and removes liquid lipsticks and waterproof makeup easily.

Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Polish
After binge-watching a crap-tonne of Simply Nailogical videos, I suddenly got into painting my nails. I bought the Rimmel 5 in 1 Top and Base Coat to go with the three nail polish shades I bought: “Sea in the Dark”, “Summer Sips” and “Xposed.” I’ve been wearing “Xposed” a lot these days because it’s a pretty pale pink colour that looks muted enough on my nails. “Summer Sips” is also a fun muted magenta colour and “Sea in the Dark” is when I feel vampy enough to wear a dark colour. I bought “Sea in the Dark” first and it’s already starting to get a bit dry so it’s been difficult to apply on my nails. Because it’s regular nail polish, it does chip and dent easily but I’m not complaining that much. The large applicator size for the 60 Seconds Nail Polish was quite surprising because I was expecting it to be as thin as the 5 in 1 base and top coat. Initially, it was very difficult to apply it on my nails because of how wide the applicator was and kept going on my skin. I’ve started to get the hang of applying nail polish but I still get it on my skin. Also, it takes a lot longer than 60 seconds for the nail polish to dry. In fact, I wait like 5 minutes for it to completely dry before applying another coat because I’m paranoid (though you can apply another coat after 2-3 minutes but it is still a bit tacky).

Australis Glitz Palette
When I first saw the Glitz Palette, I immediately thought of Tati Beauty Textured Neutrals Volume 1 palette. The shadows are organised by mattes, shimmers and glitters, along with a concealer for your base. I’ll admit I’m not the best person to review eye shadow because I’m still trying to figure out how to use it lmao but it does apply nicely and blend nicely, especially the more orange, brown and pink shades. I will say the shadows have a bit of fall out, which I’m not fussed out, but the green shade as a crap-tonne of fall out and has started contaminating my other shadows. The green shade is also quite sheer. The shimmers are also really pretty, and they are best applied using your finger. As for the glitters, I don’t use it much because glitters are ridiculously messy lmao.

Morphe Matte Liquid Lipstick
This was more of my mum impulsively buying a liquid lipstick because she really wants to get into liquid lipsticks but also wants a lipstick to be comfortable to wear (which is very hard to find). The formula is quite similar to the Rimmel lipstick, in the sense that it’s very mousse-y and light, except it doesn’t have that weird expensive perfume smell. In fact, it leans closer to a light cake batter smell. It doesn’t transfer as much as a regular lipstick but it does leave a bit of residue on cup. It also highlights the lines in your lips as well, again, kinda like the RImmel lipstick. I will say it does apply nicer than the Rimmel lipstick since it’s easier to apply across the lips. I haven’t done a proper wear-test of the product so I can’t say if it lasts as long as the Maybelline lipstick.

This review turned out to be longer than expected lmao. Even though I’ve bought a bit of makeup, I’ve started throwing out some of my makeup (and by makeup, I mean lipsticks lmao). This also means that I have room to buy more makeup rip.

Sorry this is long! Here are my reviews on some drugstore brands :)

The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors + HA
One of the nicest moisturisers I have ever ever ever worn, I have combination skin so I generally don't wear moisturizer as it makes by chin and forehead even more oily, which we don't love. This moisturiser absorbs into your skin so quickly and it doesn't leave a greasy feeling like most. I break out pretty easily but this is awesome.

The Ordinary Squalene Cleanser
Not sure how my skin is liking it, but its making my skin super soft. Its basically a cream that turns to an oil in your hands and then you use it like any facial cleanser and wash it off. I find it pretty weird that its so different to any cleanser I've used and I am breaking out a little more but I'm unsure if its from hormones, bad eating, or the product itself. I'm yet to determine wether its from hormones or wether my skin is reacting or purging.

Sappo Hill Bamboo Charcoal Soap
This shit is amazing. like it does make your skin feel squeaky clean which i don't like but it does feel like it clears up pimples, I need to buy some more from iHerb to see if my skin goes back to normal once I start using it again.

Australis Fake It! Waterproof Mascara
One of the best vegan and cruelty-free waterproof mascaras I've found. It does clump a fair but I think its pretty good for the price and how insanely waterproof it is (i should know, I work in a pool).

Australis Chocolate Bronzer - Ganache Gold
I'm not huge on contour, mainly because I don't enjoy caking my face. While I initially hated the shade as a contour due to it looking kinda 'muddy' on the skin (if you're going for a "I'm a tradie and I'm dirty" look this is perfect), I've come to love it. If I was to buy again however I wouldn't not buy the Ganache Gold shade. Its a nice transition between contour and blush, and i like layering blush and this bronzer to create a light, pretty contour. It is actually a pretty good dupe for TooFaced Chocolate Bronzer so if you're looking for something cheap this is it.

Australis Strawberries and Dreams Blush - Berry Jelly
I am in LOVE.  This blush is gorgeous, and I'm glad I got this shade (its the darkest one). I love very natural pretty looks, and this blush is gorgeous to do a light contour with or without a bronzer or contour.

Australis She's Precise Liquid Eyeliner
It lasts all day and needs the extra lil srub to get off. Only downside - not waterproof...however its waterproof enough for like day to day stuff just obvs don't go swimming or something. The tip is a brush tip but is very marker like compared to others, but it created really nice fine lines.

Australis Metal and Matte Eyeshadow Palette
I LOVE this palette so much! The lightest metallic shade is the most beautiful and ngl its the perfect highlight especially if you're going for a dewy soft look. or like the perfect inner corner highlight. Obvs if you give it a spritz with some setting spray it is sooooo bright. All of the mattes are really pigmented and the chocolatey and burgundy hues make it super easy to go from a cute basic day look to a night look.

Australis Metalix Cream Eyeshadow
I bought this ages ago and I'm not sure which shades I purchased. One is silver and the other is an coral/peach colour. I use the silver to highlight the inner corner of my eyes and the peach i used to use just for a cute very minimal lid shimmer. I am obsessed like its gorgeous! and I use the silver shade every day. The formula is very nice as its not too creamy or too dry, it sits really nicely however if you use a lot on your lids, it will settle into the crease a little but its super easy to fix up as it never completely drys (hence why its to be used on top of a matte)

Covergirl Microfine brow pencil
This is awesome! like it lasts and you don't need to put much pressure to get a line (ahem, australis could learn a thing about micro pencils). It lasts really well and its SO CHEAP! I think I picked it up for $6.

Australis Liquid Lips
This is the worst liquid lipstick I have ever used. It stayed REALLY sticky all day, like so sticky it smudged and came off on EVERYTHING.

Australis GRLBOSS Glitz Lip Gloss
Lip gloss is high matinence but this is GORGEOUS! I can't remember whether I bought the Smooth Talker Shade and it's so pretty - do yourself a favour and go try it its one of the best lip glosses I've found.

Australis Illuminating Strobe Power - Radience
A pretty shitty highlighter tbh... Its too yellow and it doesnt show up well unless you smear it and it looks super shit. I don't know if its just me but I'd rather use one of their eyeshadows for highlight than this.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Stick Matte - Hot Chocolate
Loved the colour, but its a pretty drying lipstick. Even with perfectly hydrated lips it drys them out and settles into the lines and reapplying doesn't help...even if you apply pawpaw or Vaseline beforehand :/
