okayyy
so im not sure what to say so lets start by saying hi... Hi my name is Natalie! and I'm going into year 11 this year! I've actually already started one vce subject last year which was pe so this year I'm doing 3/4 along with 1/2 English, general maths, biology, legal studies and psychology. I know its a very weird bunch of subjects to do but they were the only good subjects offered.. no, I'm just decent at them and teachers always say do subjects you enjoy not what scales up which is my I quit Japanese after doing it for 4 years :(

Pe and legal studies have to be my best and most enjoyable subjects that I do and I did pretty well in both subjects last year. for pe I knew what ride I would be in... a class full of year 11 boys that only did the subject to do prac which was once in a blue moon but I put my AirPods (I know edgy) in and got down to work and I did well except for my last exam which I was told to study another part but that's a long story. biology and psychology are subjects I don't do very well in but luckily I know a guy ;) hehe ( hiiiiiiii) my intentions were to do methods and not general but with a bad teacher, last year for advanced didn't help so I'm now in general but its okay cause ill be okay and I have a really good teacher which is good! and English I'm pretty good at except for all the little stuff like spelling and grammar which I guess I should be like good haha. I had a teacher who was pretty focused on me seeing my class always mucked around and paid a lot of attention towards me which is a good and bad thing.

anyways away from school
im a runner!! well, a middle-distance runner and I love the 400 and 800 which are everyone's most hated events. where they are both tactical events that I still have not mastered lol. I do both track and field and cross country. my least favourite event is defiantly high jump oh god I have some nightmares with that event. but I also love doing relays and my team actually won a medal at states for it hehe. (don't mean to brag but we were pretty good). I also work casual 2-3 times a week at a Mexican restaurant which is good and sometimes stressful hahaha.

now what are my plans
to be honest, I'm not sure, I want to make the most of my last 2 years of high school and try not to stress out and be emotional over school which I tend to be. I would love to graduate with a high star but I'm not fussed as long as I know myself that I did well. after I finish I would love to travel back to Japan as I went in year 9 for a school trip and travel all around Asia and also go back to Bali which is where I'm from ( fun fact!! ) and also to America which my boyfriend keeps telling me that is on the list.

okay that's enough from me you must be bored if you read this far, I promise I'm not that boring in real life!!I hope I know how to update this hehe, byeeee

I'm not sure how much you have already seen but here's a link for a how-to on using the forums as well as ATAR Notes Rules. Feel free to ask me or the other mods/admins any other questions you may have.

Again, great to see your journal, and hope you update soon!

Hi Natalie!  ;D
It's very nice to meet you!  ;D

What makes these subjects enjoyable?

I don't do track and field but whenever we have school athletics, I always make a mental note to myself to not write down my name for that event. Hitting the pole scares me for some reason, even though nothing bad has happened yet.

That's so cool! Congratulations to you and your team!

Do you know what you want to do career-wise?

Well, I look forward to reading your journal entries and am excited to follow your VCE Journey!   ;D

Future physiotherapist? Might want to research a bit on UCAT!

PE and Legal is a good combo Natalie!  (I know no one cares but according to family I would've been named Natalie if I were of female gender).  Enjoy this year, and consider dedicating a 80/20 effort allocation for your subjects this year, i.e. 80% for the 3/4 and 20% for the 1/2s. Obviously if you're confident you're gonna smash your 1/2s without considerable efforts, 95/5. However, having a solid foundation for Bio and Pscyh can arguably be helpful.

Hi Natalie!
Good to see that you've mad a journal and I am looking forward to not only seeing more journal updates but also seeing you around the forums elsewhere!
Good luck on your unit 3/4 subject this year aswell as on those 1/2's.
If you are finding bio and psych tough, don't hesitate to ask for advice and help in understanding topics on the psych and bio question threads (just make sure you have a go at answering questions and finding info yourself as they are important skills to develop :))

Trying not to stress to much in VCE is a very good goal and certainly something that I think will help you maximise your performance throughout the year.

Just a little side note
when you are replying to people on the forums, its best to include your multiple replies to people in the same single post rather than making multiple seperate posts (this just makes it a bit more organised). This can be done by clicking the reply button on the thread and scrolling down from the text box that pops up until you see the messages from other useres that you want to quote/respond to. To quote this (to include it in your message as a blue box), you can click the "insert quote button" that apears on the top right of the message you want to quote. This can be done multiple times within a single post to save you from making multiple posts. Hopefully this makes sense - the forums can be pretty tricky to figure out how to use at first)
consider dedicating a 80/20 effort allocation for your subjects this year, i.e. 80% for the 3/4 and 20% for the 1/2s. Obviously if you're confident you're gonna smash your 1/2s without considerable efforts, 95/5. However, having a solid foundation for Bio and Pscyh can arguably be helpful.
I just want to briefly voice my opinion that I don't think approaching your workload for VCE like this is a particularly good idea. While it is important to put more effort into your unit 3/4 subjects compared to your unit 1/2 subjects as your 3/4 is ultimately contributing to your ATAR, it’s also very important to not disregard your 1/2 subjects. I say this for multiple reasons: 1) like you mentioned, it’s important to properly understand 1/2 content to make life easier when you get to your 3/4 subject - otherwise your workload in year 12 will be much harder to manage. 2) it’s important that you actually pass these 1/2 subjects - while you are technically allowed to fail some units, it is not a wise idea to allow yourself to do so. 3) when you neglect your 1/2's you will struggle to keep on top of the workload and to understand the subject as well. When you are in this position, you'll likely grow a distaste for the subject which does not set yourself up for success. I also dislike the idea of applying a 'ratio' to determine how you allocate your efforts. Just as your workload changes from subject to subject and from week to week, I believe that your effort should too. I found that while I was in year 11, some weeks I barely touched my unit 3/4 work as I was meeting the demands of my unit 1/2 subjects as there was no pressing year 12 work, just in the same way that there were times when I devoted all my time to my year 12 subject (as too there were times where things were more balanced). It’s all about identifying what work/study needs to be done and prioritising it - something that is a very dynamic process and (in my opinion) is not benefitted by being preoccupied by trying to stick to a 80/20 effort allocation rule. That being said, this is just my opinion from my VCE experience and others may indeed find applying these 80/20 rules as something that helps them. This brings up the importance trying out different study techniques and reflecting on what worked/didn't work and developing your own systems and habits based on what help you learn effectively and achieve good results.

Good luck and enjoy the rest of your holidays

Just want to clarify that you don't need the UCAT for physio :) Only need it for medicine and dentistry.

As a current physio student feel free to let me know if you have any questions about physio! Good luck for year 11, I hope it's an enjoyable year for you!! Can't wait to read your updates as we progress through 2020 :D

Hi Natalie!

Welcome to atarnotes :)

Given those are all quite popular subjects I'm sure you'll find a plethora of resources here and people happy to help you out. Not only that, but please don't feel that being "just decent" means you don't have a place here or that your contributions aren't wanted. If you're not sure about something feel free to say so put please don't silence yourself from speaking up; if only people with premiers awards contributed their thoughts atarnotes wouldn't be as fantastic a community as it is.

I love the approach you've taken in picking subjects you enjoy and proactively thinking about trying not to stress out. You may have been told this already but please continue athletics into VCE to help you with your stress management and all that. Also, I'm sure your bio and psych guy is great but if you do ever want a 2nd perspective please feel free to ask.

All the best,
a reader who wasn't bored :)

I just had my first day of year 11 and boy was it stressssssssful. okay so i kinda go to a new school now, my school has merged with a school pretty much down the road to us meaning we had to get a new name, meaning a new system, I rocked up to school with all my books(as teachers told us) never got my locker as promised and only round out my classes ten minutes before period 2 WHICH WAS MY YEAR 12 CLASS!!! So today was a little bit messy but I had a double class of English and psychology and for the first time being in high school I opened up, I contributed to class discussions and even got a compliment from my English teacher about it after class which is a really good feeling going into year 11. in English we just went over the holiday task which were to answer questions set by my teacher on the book we are reading which is Maus a graphic novel, I would recommend reading it just in general! and in psychology we are learning about neurons and the nervous system which is pretty exciting and ill update more with my other classes and more in detail with English and psychology.
now I love hot weather, I love summer but not when its 43 degrees and you have to go back to school in a very tight dress and the aircon barely works at your school. I think I've ranted to much anyways lets talk about holidays ahahah

sooooo I WENT TO A ATAR NOTES LECTURE!! I forgot the girl who was presenting it but thank you if you are reading!!xoxo I learnt so so so much and I went into class really confident about pe. my teacher was pretty proud of me ;) I can't wait to go to more next holidays!!!.

I went up to the farm during New Years with my boyfriend and his amazing family which meant we went and ran up at falls creek for altitude training but sadly we got evacuated and our holiday was cut short. hopefully im going back soon (hopefully in winter) as soon as we got back It was back to regular training and tbh I wasn't looking forward to it. my first race back I cried all day the day before and before the race begging not to race but some how pulled off a 5 second pb in the 800m and the week after a 1 second in the 400m which Ive been dying to get! and both were in some crappy conditions so im pretty proud haha.

anyways ill keep y'all updated on my amazing life (sarcasm to the maxxxx) now Im off to go make tiktoks as my goal is to be #famous

once again thank you for reading this when you could of made some food hehe

Hey Natalie!
Have you got any goals for this year? What are you most keen about?

Glad to hear that your first week has gone well :)

At my school in year 10 we only had "core science" and "forensic science" so no one had prior exposure to much of any of the VCE sciences.
What topics are you starting with?

Hope you heal up soon & congrats on all the pbs!

Dw, your journal isn't boring - hope you have an amazing week too :)
