99 atar possible with 5 subjects?

My school has denied me to do 6 subjects in year 12 (in school, or distance Ed, or uni extension). The reason I didn’t do a 3/4 this year in year 11 is because I moved interstate and the school didn’t tell me I was allowed to do one. I know 99 is probably too ambitious especially with my subjects (eng, methods, Chem, bio, psych) as I’m not doing spesh or a language. I’d be really happy with a 97- 99 isn’t a be all end all. Also I know you can’t answer this question but how hard is a 45 in Chem if I’m finding year 11 Chem easy average low 80s?

Is a 99+ ATAR possible with five subjects? Absolutely - a number of people on these forums would have achieved a 99+ ATAR without their sixth subject.

Is it easy? No, absolutely not. But it's also not easy getting a 99+ ATAR with six subjects, or four subjects, or seven subjects. By nature of what the ATAR is, getting an ATAR that high means you have performed exceptionally well, irrespective of a) what subjects you're doing, and b) how many subjects you're doing.

There are, of course, advantages of completing a Units 3&4 subject before Year 12, but it's by no means required to do well, or required to get a 99+ ATAR. You can definitely still do well - exceptionally well, in fact. Who knows? It may even be an advantage to you in the end (intangible factors like motivation and perception of study are difficult to quantify).

You absolutely do not need to do Specialist Maths or a language subject to get a great ATAR, or to get a 99+ ATAR.

Obviously rank matters most in regards to study scores but check out Deakin's 'Study Score Calculator'
