Help! Studying for modern

Hey all!
So yep the HSC is fast approaching and I pretty much bombed my modern trial simply because I didn't know how to study for it... any advice? I have all my notes written etc, and my teacher says doing past questions is really important, but I don't know how I should go about doing past papers! Should I memorise all my notes? Should I write essay plans?

Any help would be much appreciated!

doing notes is great - all you have to do is use them effectively! past papers are what they are, past papers, so do as many as possible (keep in mind papers from before 2010 in the ww1 section don't have MC questions). write essays, essay plans if you're lazy, then email them to your teacher :-)

good luck!

Yeah just backing up Fanatasticbeasts great answer, I definitely recommend putting those notes into action! It's all well and good having notes but what is really important is that you practice using these notes to argue something! Hence, doing past essay questions be it detailed plans or actual essays are really crucial for knowing how to apply the knowledge :)

thanks guys! but the problem isn't just doing the past papers- it figuring out what in my notes I am required to formulate into an essay is my problem! Yes, I 've got specific notes on all the dot points, but if a broader question was asked, eg. "Assess the impact of communism.....etc etc" I would have no idea how to do it! I just have an understanding of what happened, key events etc, but have no idea how to begin with past paper questions...

start with essay plans :-) that way, you can outline what exactly you want to write in your essay. if a broad question is asked, only choose the most important things. what are your option topics?
