Title: Are you ready for back to school? 🙋
Post by: J_Rho on January 24, 2020, 11:41:41 am
Who's keen for going back to school?

• What are your subjects for this year
• What are you most excited about
• What are you most nervous/not so keen about?

My subjects are English, Further, HHD, Legal and Psych and I'm most excited about English because it is my worst subject and I have some goals I want to achieve! I am really nervous going into 3/4 HHD without 1/2 and I know I'm going to need to really persist even if I hate the subject.

Your answers don't have to be subject-specific, for example, I'm also super excited about school sports, not because I am sporty but because its my last one!

Hey J_Rho!

Who's keen for going back to school?

• What are your subjects for this year
• What are you most excited about
• What are you most nervous/not so keen about?

My subjects are Chemistry, English, French, Methods and Specialist. I am most excited for chemistry as the content looks so interesting and the Heinemann textbook is beautiful to read. I am also super excited for the carnivals and just in general being the oldest year level (yay, free periods!).

I am most nervous for French, it just seems impossibly difficult and I feel like anyone who gets 40s in this subject must like a super genius from a different planet  :o

Who's keen for going back to school?

No.

Just kidding (not really). I'm doing English, methods, bio and chem. I'm excited for every subject except chemistry. I'm also excited for formal and year 12 camp.

My subjects are Spec/Chem/Art/English/Physics.

I'm excited because its Year 12, its my last year of school, and because of that, there are a lot of exciting events and activities to look forward to. Also my subjects seem interesting this year.
I'm most nervous about Spec/Chem, as they're pretty annoying subjects for me to grasp.

I guess I'm somewhat keen on going back to school. Not excited, but just accepting the fact that school starts soon.

Sort of looking forward to going back to school, especially to see my friends again!

My subjects this year are PDT, English, Methods, Chemistry and Physics. The stuff I'm looking forward to is our Year 12 camp/jackets, Melb Uni's VCE Physics lectures and just doing PDT/Methods. What I'm nervous about pretty much applies to all my subjects, but it's doing alright/well during the year and then stuffing up at end of year exams.

Definitely not looking forward to waking up early though

I'm definitely not excited to go back to school! I have only just started to feel relaxed ahhh.
I'm doing English, Chemistry, Methods and Food Studies.
Chemistry is what I am looking forward to the most, as it seems the most interesting. Food studies is not too far behind it though.
Super nervous about methods. I can't remember anything from 1/2 (which I barely did), and I didn't do any prep for it over the holidays.

We are in the same boat. Except I did do 1/2 (as in ever question the teacher set) but I’m even further behind than people who just showed up to class😂. I went over quadratics and that’s it.....good luck to us!

Yeah, I'm super excited for school! I'm excited to finish Year 12, our final year of schooling, and go to university and venture into the big world! It's scary and exciting at the same time.

My subjects are Literature, Psychology, Specialist Maths and Chemistry. I'm most excited about seeing my capabilities for my different subjects and how well I do and whether my mindset towards study actually changed. If it did, I want to see if it worked!

I'm nervous about the final exams. for all my subjects  :o
I think I'm most nervous for Specialist Exam 2 and Literature because in the past years, the exams have been one hour apart from one another and so there's a good chance it'll be the same this year. And, they're the subjects I find the hardest so...yeah.
But, it's okay. I'll have the whole year to master my skills!  ;D

Who's keen for going back to school?

Haha, nope! I'm very much enjoying my break and I still have a lot more things I would like to do. But alas, school is quickly approaching. At least I have until the 3rd! ;D

Who's keen for going back to school?

What are your subjects for this year
3/4 Bio (whoop whoop), Literature, Food Tech (another massive plus), Chemistry, Methods and Spesh

I've actually been really suprised by how much I am enjoying chemistry. It's been really good. So far food tech has been a little dissapointing; I think because I'm surrounded by people who couldn't care less about school or doing well, but I'm enjoying the cooking and the content is bearable. Every time I open my maths books, a little more of my soul dies. I'm not sure why, but solving sets of four simultaneous equations for four variables using elimination (by hand) just feels like a waste of trees. Like a big waste of trees.

Who's keen for going back to school?

What are you most excited about?
Seeing my friends when I go back to school.
A new year with new teachers. (I think I'm really going to like my lit teacher.)
Finally being a VCE student. Although that also makes me nervous.
Youth group and debating starting up again.
Making bomb school lunches.

Who's keen for going back to school?

What are you most nervous/not so keen about?
Struggling to make my energy stretch everywhere I want/need it to.

Your answers don't have to be subject-specific, for example, I'm also super excited about school sports, not because I am sporty but because its my last one!
What's fun about the last school sports? Are there special things for Year 12s to do?

I'm doing 3/4 Methods, and 1/2 Bio, English, Aus+Global Politics, Indonesian and Chem.

I'm pretty excited about having spare periods and being in the school production.

I'm nervous about Methods because it's not like I did great last year and I have to it through Webex. I'm doing one of my subjects through VSV and I haven't heard many positive things about it. I also want to go for School Captain but I'm not very popular sooo... yeah.

Yes! Getting back into the rhythm of school again is so GOOD! I love the holidays but hate that you lose the 'rhythm' of things

It sounds like youve got some awesome subjects, and its great you're enjoying chem! Seeing friends and new teachers are awesome! There are so many good things about going back to school.
The last school sports are fun cause we dress up in super silly costumes in our house colours like muck up day but colour themed (think fat suits, and telletubby costumes) We all enter into the 100m which is a bit of a tradition and super funny for the rest of the school cause its so stupid.
What are your favourite things to make for school lunch?

Yea surprisingly I am keen for school starting again, I just feel super unproductive over the holidays so school will get rid of that feeling.

My subjects are Chem, Bio, Methods, Further and English.
I am super excited about Chem and Bio. They interest me the most.
I am also excited about receiving the year 12 hoodies and getting the English exam over and done with  :P

I am a bit nervous about Methods, I really tried in this subject during yr 11 but just was performing really badly compared to others in my year level so . . . guess I gotta work more on this subject this year.
Also nervous about burning out during when exams come around, I know that happened this year  . . .

Welp good luck to everyone this year  :)

Yeah, I don't think I can imagine myself doing anything else. Also, it's a wide field so there's lots of options in terms of specialisation! This is really far ahead but I'm particularly interested in obstetrics! That would be sweet!  ;D

What interests you about Paramedicine?

That's so cool! Is there a particular reason you're interested in obstetrics? My interest in Paramedicine stems from my desire to help people, especially when they are at their most vulnerable - similar to why I'm volunteering with VICSES. I just think its an amazing thing to have the ability to help others and I absolutely hate the mundane-ness of doing the same thing every day which is why the somewhat unexpected and spontaneous nature of the role of a paramedic is so appealing.

What interests you most about chem and bio?

I love the problem-solving aspect of chem as well as how it's linked to theory. Chem feels more like a game/puzzle than a subject.

Bio well the first bit of Unit 3 is a bit 'mehh' but parts like immunity +biodeversity are really what interests me. But don't get me wrong currently I  find bio WAY harder than chem.  ???

That's great! Having different experiences every day will definitely make life less routine-like, especially when you need to make quick decisions and think on your feet in emergencies.

This might seem silly, but delivering babies seems really magical because you're bringing a new life into the world and who knows what that baby will grow up to become. All that potential in this tiny baby waiting to be recognised by the world.
But, all that speciality stuff is really faraway and I haven't committed to becoming an obstetrician. Paediatrics, neurosurgery and psychiatry are some of the other fields that appeal to me so as you can see, I'm all over the place.
I think I'm getting waaay ahead of myself right now and this seems so distant and unimaginable. I think I need to focus on getting into Monash first.  :P  Then, we can go from there.

Sounds like the words of a true obstetrician.

I agree with Ionic Doc! You sound really passionate about it, and I don't think many others our age could give such a wholesome and beautiful answer.

Exactly, it will be so nice not to worry about any homework for once in my life!
Well, I really want to go into an area where I would study infectious diseases. If I could work for WHO or the CDC, that would be a dream! I may end up in medical school, but it wouldn't be to become a doctor. So I guess I will either do a bachelor of science or pharmaceutical sciences and see where I go from there.
I love chem! It is my favorite subject ever, and its just a bonus that it is a major prerequisite.
Do you know where you want to do paramedcine?

I'm not quite sure what sparked my interest. But when I was bored at home, I ended up watching a crap ton of documentaries on all sorts of deadly pathogens, especially the ones that happened throughout history. When this was covered in bio 3/4, it just accentuated my interest.
Those are quite a distance apart from each other, especially with monash being in frankston. Do you think you will chose a uni based on where you live, or the program?

Oh wow! Thats so cool, all those diseases in history are fascinating, its awesome you want to pursue it
I currently live in Gippsland, so wherever i got to uni I will have to move - I would love to go to Monash because I have family in Rosebud and a potential job in Somers and they are all in relative proximity to each others and I like the idea of staying in the areas I know, and I don't find much intrest in going to Ballarat.
What uni would you like to go to?

Whats PDT? Where are you going for yr 12 camp? I can definitely relate to not wanting to wake up early!

PDT (Product Design and Technology) is pretty much a folio subject (similar to Viscom) where you find a problem and solve it with a 3D object. For my project, my problem is one of my friends is attending a gaming event and would like to cosplay to it, which I'm making her full costume for her. You can make anything you want (clothes, weapons, furniture you name it!) and there is quite a lot of freedom of what you choose to focus on!

For Yr 12 camp, we are going to Federation university in Ballarat. I'm not too sure what we will be doing there but it definitely will be a great bonding session!

What do you think your least fav subject will be J_Rho and why? Do you have some goals that you want to achieve outside school this year? ;D

Oh wow that subject sounds very fun! It great you have the opportunity to visit a university during Year 12. I think my least favourite subject will be HHD as I chose it as it was the only subject that I could do, other than business which I really hate. I have a little bit of interest in the subject but I'm not a fan of the teacher so we'll see.
I have some goals regarding work and SES which I've put in spoilers below with regards to work I've achieved 2 of my 2020 goals which is fantastic and hopefully by the end of the year I'll have acheived all my goals!
Work Goals
- Become a customer service officer ✔
- Train 1 new party instructor ✔
- Become an infants teacher
- Become a DM

SES Goals
- Get deployed ✔
- Become part of the Regional Swift Water Rescue Crew
- Attain my Certificate III in Public Saftey (Need Chainsaw, Crew Leader and Road Rescue certification)
- Attend all training and incidents (that I'm qualified for and when I'm available)
2-year goal
- Become a deputy controller of juniors

Do you have any school/outside of school goals? Do you do any extracurriculars?

I worked at KFC and Red Rooster throughout the whole of year 10. Got fired from Red Rooster at the end of year 10. Continued working with KFC a little bit into year 11 then decided to quit cause I wasn't able to handle school/job/sports.

Although I'm planning on being a lifeguard/swim instructor after year 12 as well.  :D

What sports do you play? Also if you have any questions about either of those jobs, the qualifications etc don't hesitate to ask! I have lots of useful tips, and things to share
What sparked your interest in the industry?

yeah I’m a swimmer, although I stoped competitive swimming bout 2 years ago, I just train now. Most of the fellow older swimmers I trained with went on to working as lifeguards while studying at uni as well, so just sorta following them..
Some tips would be great, thanks.

Lifeguarding is a really good job especially if you will be going away to uni, the Y are especially good at accommodating peoples availability which is such a big perk especially if you are used to kinda shitty fast food chains where they dont really care.
You will need to do your 'Pool Lifeguard Skillset', which teaches you the skills you need to perform a rescue HOWEVER this course generally doesnt run through scenarios to any extent so think of it as your toolbox and when there is a rescue you use the tools most suited to the situation to perform the rescue. Its all pretty straight forward, you learn to administer oxygen, use spinal equipment, and tow people. There is also a 200m swim in under 6 minutes but given you use to swim competitively you should be able to do that super easy. the legal side of it puts some people off but if someone drowns you have to go to the coroner's court and they decide whether you were negligent and caused the death through that. I haven't had any experience with privately-owned facilities but the YMCA is extremely flexible in like every aspect - you don't have to have 'amazing' availabilites to get a job, you can transer super easily, and internal recruitment is chill; my centre advertised for swim teaching I told the swimming teacher coordinator and shes said awesome go do your course asap and we'll start you doing some shadowing, i did that got accredited signed my letter of offer and i was a swim teacher, same thing with customer service i was like hey can i learn customer service and the frontline leader was like Ummm yes! and i got a shadow shift the next day and at the end of my shadow i received my letter of offer (this was like 5 days ago) and Im already rostered on for a heap of customer service shifts!
I think you've got the point, its flexible as all hell, and hence why its an appealing job for uni students especially when your base rate (as a casual) is $28 an hour.
Swim teaching you need to do you AUSTSWIM Teacher of swimming and water safety and you can't get accredited till you've been signed off as a competent teacher (kinda like your L's but the hours isnt set) this job is a lot more regular tho, so you need to be prepared to basically work a particular day/s every week like forever, obvs you can change your days to an extent but its not as flexible
If you want I can email you some of the swim teacher pre & post-course resources i have

What are you doing for the school production? What subject is your favourite? Surely school captain isnt decided by your peers/popularity?

I'm not quite sure about production. They haven't announced what it'll be yet. I think Methods or Indo would be my favourite because Chem and Bio is just a lot. And to be school captain you have to go through the nomination process and get elected in by the student body... well for my school at least. I've tried to go for executive roles in the SRC before but I didn't get enough votes so yeah.

Well, I had school today and it was pretty chill - had Bio and English. Also had two year 7 buddies to take care of and I think i did a pretty good job cause there settling in pretty well. Just feels like another school day, to be frank.  :)

The only thing that bothered everyone was the weather. People were just non- stop sweating like crazyy. It got to like a top of 44 ~ here. Not fun.  >:(
