Maintaining <5mins/km for 2.5kms for a first time run after such a long break is amazing!! :)
Keep it up
Now this makes me feel guilty and makes me want to run again. I had set a habit to do it, 3 times a week following the Couch to 5k program.. hmmm. maybe I should start running again now that it is spring.
Also don't worry Joesph, I'll make sure to call you out on it :P
I don't give a single fuck about times, but I have to get through a run today.
I am cooked. Did the first kilometre in like four minutes and then struggled like all fuck up the hill before my house. This man is an aerobic machine.
What app is this?? It's set out (charting your best/longest runs etc) looks really motivating
Runkeeper. :)is the app free?
is the app free?
First to 30min 5k anyone? ???Sure, ran 24min 5km today :)
;)

Where is the update bro?
I think I just beat you :P
Have you still been running, Joseph? Calling you out like you told us to do. :P
It has now been 5 weeks since this has been last updated with a run. Please update Nick or are you not taking my challenge to you seriously? :O
It'll get done by the end of the week.I look forward to your update :D

Hmmmm.... something something call outSomething something marathon not a sprint
On the plus side, I've probably found myself a wicked six pack from vomiting recently.Get well soon mate. Look forward to your update. :)
I'm sick atm, but very aware of the fact that I owe a couple of runs here.

5.12km today. I didn't fancy running in tomorrow's 41 degree heat, but didn't think that today would also be freakin' scorching. In 30 degree heat, what an animal!
Happy - was also slightly quicker than my run the other day. Next goal: 6km.

don't want to go too hard, too early. This is a pro.
This is a pro.
And you’re a pro! Amazing work 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Inspiring work Joseph41! Injuries can be such an physical and mental hurdle to overcome, so it's awesome to hear how successful your return to running has been. Have you been doing any stretches or similar to limit the chance of re-injuring yourself? maybe I should start running again too hmmm
Thanks man!
Stretches - none before (was instructed not to before cricket), only mild stretches after. Honestly I don't know what's best, so I'll do some research. :)
Remember that if ya want perfect gains, you need perfect rest!
Stoked to hear you’re getting some more confidence back in your body.
I ran 10km last night. You had a good 48 hours between runs, don’t beat yourself up. Congrats on the milestone!
Mixed feelings. I mainly did it as an emotional release (honestly, after like 1km, it's largely mental to a point). Happy I could do it, but dominant feeling this morning is annoyance at myself for doing it; I'm very aware it was a bad idea, and also was at the time.
Well done! 3.34km is awesome.
Sorry to hear you've been so unwell. Cheering on the sidelines for you, Nick! :D

24 minutes this morning is a PB for 5km since I started recording times at the start of this thread. I'm sure it's not my best ever, but I'm happy with the progress. I'd love to be able to double it up and do 10km in <50 minutes, but that's a fair way off, I think.Holy sht.
Holy sht.
Good job =)
You’d be surprised! Keep it up and I reckon that 10km would be right around the corner. You could probably do it right now on flat terrain 😂
I reckon the distance is sweet; it's the pace that'd get me, y'feel? I can get by for distance on sheer determination but my body starts to shut down if I up the pace too much haha. I think the plan is to get my 2km time down to give myself a good platform, and then work in gradually building into the 5km, 7.5km, 10km etc. :)Nice plan!

When I was doing my research, a lot of people suggested a speed, medium, and distance run per week. (I.e., a 2km for time, a casual 5km just for the miles in the body, and then a 10km). This was when I wanted a better 2km so I think the idea was that the distances feed into each other. Fun stuff.
Great achievement =) HUUUGEEE improvement =) =)got 6km x country in less than 2 weeks...record for 5km is 20 mins...but not sure if ir was a bike ride?! was yrss ago
Ran 12.5km, pretty spent.
#beast
12.1km yesterday. Felt good, thought I was going to smash through the 13km mark, and then my hips started to shut down a little.Excellent effort +)
Still, happy with that.
Tips for getting the motivation to run through the cooler weather?Get the hot chocolate started, do your fastest one kilometre, and be back home by the time the milk is ready... :D

This DOES require a pace of ~3 minutes per k... :(
Full transparency: I haven't run in a month.

Full transparency: I haven't run in a month.Get some decent gear - so like, some compression tights, maybe a decent jumper to run in (activewear shopping time)! It makes it a lot more pleasant.

Also just gotta focus on the good things - so like, yeah you're maybe gonna suffer a bit, but you're gonna feel reeeeeally good after you've done your run.
Have never run in tights but keen on this idea, I think. Do you have any recommendations?I personally like 2XU the most, but Skins and basically every sporting brand (Nike, Adidas, Under Armour) have a range of compression wear. Just pop on down to Rebel Sport or go to an outlet shopping centre (this is good for picking up cheap compression wear, because it's like, last season's stock or whatever).
How do you run in summer, though? I find winter fine, I like the biting air, but summer destroys me.
Managed 10km after work last night.I always found it harder to run in the heat, I could run forever in the cold! Might be something to do with the fact that I grew up playing a winter sport
Was hard. Running in the cold is way more difficult than running in the warmth - do others find this, too? Physically, that is.

Felt super frustrated last night, went for a 10km run after work.when you run it directs blood away from your digestive system plus there's increased pressure in your intra-abdominal cavity, and now you're probably feeling like crap because you've depleted your energy stores and are dehydrated. this is worsened if you step up your intensity too quickly and haven't run in a while because your body's not used to it
Spent the night vomiting. Very nauseated today. Not sure if correlation or causation.
5km after work yesterday.I will be waiting excitedly to see a pic of that delightful blood blister.
Struggled badly - worst I've felt running in ages. Just never felt right. Not really sure why. Hoping it was just an off day!
Also have a delightful blood blister on my toe atm. It's very pretty.
Well, I went four months without a run (...).How do you keep on going for so long after such a big break? Obviously different circumstances but I've started playing soccer again after 2 years off and I'm absolutely buggered after doing two laps of the field lol
Chose the worst day for it, but just went for a 3km jog. Glad to get back into it, want to build back to where I was mid last year and then surpass it.

^ Are you planning to train to build up your endurance and distances, or are you just kinda gonna wing it?
4km today. Felt better than yesterday.Better March than April.
Reminder of my goals for this year, even though I'm practically starting in March:
1. 365km across the year.
2. 15km+ run (current PB 13km).
3. Sub 50 minutes for 10k (current best 52 minutes).
Both? Haha. What do you mean?Well like, people usually do a bit of a planned out training to build up to half marathon lengths and stuff. Y'know, so you don't overload your body and stuff - honestly I don't know heaps because I don't enjoy running lol but I mean there's stuff like the couch to 5k so I was wondering if you were going to follow something similar to build up to your 15+km?

Oh.Winging it can be okay, particularly given a 15km goal and without a "I'm gonna do it in 6 weeks!" mind frame.
Well, my elaborate plan was actually just to wing it, as you suggested earlier.
But maybe I shouldn't be stupid. Decisions, decisions.
Winging it can be okay, particularly given a 15km goal and without a "I'm gonna do it in 6 weeks!" mind frame.
Run consistently, try to run a bit more every few times you go out, recover well, reevaluate when progress stalls.
Just, if you're gonna run three times a week, run big once. 2k, 5k, 10k, some shit like that. Don't kill yourself doing 3 x 10kms if 10kms is your PB.
You always have such sound advice. And honestly, the shorter runs are going to help mentally. Less effort, similar reward... it's gonna build the frequency with which you want to run if you know you're not going to get punished every time you step out the door!
Did 3km. Was hot and shit.Jesus, props to that
Did 3km. Was hot and shit. That's insane in this weather. Props to you for that! ^-^
Did 3km. Was hot and shit.*opens weather app*
Did 3km. Was hot and shit.Wow, that's a lot of determination you have there. That's amazing! When you push through, all that sweat feels awesome! Keep at it!
3km in 14.01 today, which is a pace I'm a bit happier with. Don't know why I consistently choose the hotter days.Cool change coming through tomorrow and for the next week should be less taxing, but then again you're gonna have to warm up extra well to avoid any unfortunate incidents... :-\ The most annoying thing about winter sport.

Cold definitely not a motivating factorYeah but hot showers after being out in the cold are amazing.

Hello, my friend.Wait.... was that you I saw running past? green beanie, right?
I think the last time I went running was the summer of 1942. 🤔
Cold definitely not a motivating factor, and work has been busy. Definitely just excuses, but that's what I'm running (HAHA) with for now.The cold is certainly unmotivating. You could go to a gym and use a treadmill, but I think treadmill running is quite mundane. With the cold, you probably just need to get out there and suffer the cold for a little while until you warm up. Its quite nice running in the cold once you've gotten into it.
What's your advice?
How's it been going? Do you prefer winter runs to summer runs? (Or is being cold just as awful as being hot?)
I started a new "ab cruncher" exercise plan and I am at day six and finally at a point where I can get through the exercises in one go.

Bad: I didn't go for a run for 14 months.Well done!!! I am proud <3
Better: I've been for two 5km runs in the last week.

Better (but also a bad idea because I'll give myself a stress injury if I don't do a progressive loading program): I've been for two 5km runs in the last week.

7km today. Good boy.If you overload yourself I'll eat your toes - stretch beforehand and afterwards, do a walk/jog cooldown if you're pushing yourself, stay on top of your overall strength and balance.
10km.
Where's the other 20? Not pullin' my head in unless you do another 20 klicksIf this means 20kms (split between 2-4 runs) in a week, I agree.
No dramas alright, better see at least 15 from you next time full stop Jo Jo.
10km.On fire 🔥 Keep us updated!
