Hello everyone,

For the upcoming year I have chosen method maths a part of my subjects. Unfortunately I did not complete units 1 and 2 as I didn't realise it was required for my prerequisites.

I've completed Further maths year 11, and I'm wondering how difficult it would be to join Methods with only knowledge from Further.

I would love to hear from anyone who has experienced a similar thing or generally anyone who can describe the challanges of learning Methods, thank you

I'm not sure how much FM would actually help since the content is quite different.

I think methods 1/2 are really important units to get a solid base in mathematics (for both methods and even specialist) so I would recommend you do a bit of work over the holidays covering some 1/2 content.

As a Methods student finishing this year, I would agree with Sine. It was hard enough to do it with 1/2 already (although more consistent work, which was impossible in my situation, would fix that). I recommend, if you are going to do it, overview of all the content beforehand and making sure that each topic you know how to do and understand. Focus in class. Do homework. Do exam questions throughout the year, building on previous knowledge from earlier in the year. Work as hard as possible. :)

Methods unit 1/2 is essential for unit 3/4 and also there is no overlap between general/further math. I definitely recommend you do a lot of work to get everything covered. The core topics you should focus on are: Circular functions, Logs, Polynomials, Probability and Calculus. With that all being said good luck :)
