Year 11 Further + Methods Mathematics

Hi there, I'm a bit new to this website hence I might be doing this wrong. However I had a question in regards to General and Method Mathematics for Unit 1/2. Im currently a Year 10 student studying pre-methods, but for year 11 I got recommended to do General and Methods as two different subjects for the year. Im curious to know whether this will benefit me in anyway and my future career options where I want to work within the medical field. Also if this will affect in any circumstances to my Year 12 ATAR score? I'd like it to hear from someone who may have also taken this way. Thanks!

Hi! Welcome to AN  :D
I'm a Year 11 doing General and Methods 1/2, and I also want to get into Med. Further will not directly help you get into different careers, but it will teach you practical content such as financial maths. However, if you are strong in math then excelling in Further can get you a high study score. Whether it will positively or negatively impact your ATAR is dependent on you and how you perform. Further scales down and is really competitive, but the content is also regarded as 'easy' so if you excel then you will get many benefits. Some of the content in Further are prereqs for Methods, so learning it can help you perform well and understand the fundamentals in Methods.
Good luck!

Well, especially methods will give you a lot of opportunities in terms of what courses you can consider since it is a prerequisite for a lot of stuff. In terms of the medical field, the overall usefulness will probably depend on what area and job you end up doing, however, they will become valuable at some point regardless of which area.

if you are a strong maths student, maybe consider doing spesh? But in terms of further and methods, methods is definitely more significant, in that it is required as a pre-req for many uni courses. Further is a good option to achieve a high study score if you put in a lot of effort and time, although the content may be relatively easy, you still need to work hard and almost force yourself to be perfect in this subject.

Hope that helps

Im known to be strong in maths, but I wouldn't really categorise myself in spesh. It's pretty complicated for me to understand. And yes thanks for your feedback, it definitely cleared up my doubts
