Although not a prerequisite, will Universities differentiate different applicants solely based on their ATARs or will they take into account those other subjects (eg. Physics).

The course I am interested in does not need Physics but I am wondering if I do it, will it give me a better shot of getting into the course I want or will it be the same as doing a non related subject to the course?

Hi asdfghjklzx,

As lon as you fulfill the prerequisite (remember, this is done using the raw score), then your subject selection won't matter at UniMelb. It'll give you the same chance as students doing any other subject — so if Physics is what you want, go for  it!

However some other universities will give bonuses to your ATAR aggregrate if you do specific subjects. This is called subject adjustment. It varies between uni and by course too. As an example, here are some details from La Trobe on their version of the scheme. However as noted, UniMelb does not adjust for this.

Best of luck with your VCE!
