Just need to take out the "vce." bit from "vce.atarnotes.com" and then all the links work fine.

I've fixed and checked these links:

Oh, attachments. I read somewhere on the announcement forum that they didn't carry over properly and that they'll be fixing that soon.

Here:
Some of the data... Like avatars and post attachments for instance... Could not be transferred over. Depending on demand... I will code something to port attachments (>2gb worth) over if need be. However, I will be leaving the old forums up for the time being at http://www.atarnotes.com/agora/. They are in maintenance mode (read-only), but it will give anyone interested an opportunity to acquire anything (like avatars and attachments) that wasn't transferred to the new forum.

I think this post should be linked to: VERY IMPORTANT - !!Dot Point not covered !!
It's got a list of stuff that's in the current study design, but wasn't in the previous one (only for Unit 4 though).

It should be pretty useful, I've got a lot of old exams and not that many current study design ones.

TSSM sells students their 2011 one for $7
Insight sells their 2009 and 2010 years for $10
Neap sells students the 2009 and 2010 for $7

TSFX, iTute and Engage give there's out for free.
Obviously there's VCAA 2009 and VCAA 2010 on the website.

The rest are more expensive I think. I never realised how cheap some trial exams actually are.

Ask your teacher - they should have some money in the budget to purchase some (STAV are pretty good, I like their exams).

lol, the STAV exams are like $4 dollars each and $2 for the solutions (like $8 postage though). I'm not sure if students can order them though.

Post by: Sm1l3y on September 23, 2011, 03:56:03 pm
Well looks like I will have to buy them now... that sucks. Just bought some Neap ones.

Email me if you have any new physics exams, would be greatly appreciated.

[email protected]

Also, which exams are good, I have some Lisachem, Chemology, Itute and Insight. Any I should throw away?

Also, what has changed from the previous study design, because I have heaps of exams from previous study design, and want to know what parts I can do and can't do?

Thanks.

OK, I'll get this thread fixed up over the next week or so for the class of 2012 :)

Post any new links to info/vids/docs that you've found useful and I'll gladly add them up! :)
Most definitely MIT's Highlights for Highschool: http://ocw.mit.edu/high-school/physics/

The study design lists some books in the last page. One of these was Paul Hewitt's Conceptual Physics. A lot of the book was irrelevant and doesn't really focus too much on calculations, but the author explains quite well. Initially disliked it, but I grew to like it a bit more over time. The book is quite expensive though, I don't think it'd be worth shelling out for, but local library might have it.

Feynman Lecture's on Physics is probably largely irrelevant for VCE, but it's damn interesting if you want to expose yourself to more physics. I probably would have stayed in my state of having this extreme dissatisfied with VCE Physics (it's as if Unit 3 Motion is designed to kill motivation and interest) if I hadn't of started reading stuff written by Feynman.

If you're doing special relativity (and you don't have access to a copy of the Feynman Lectures), the chapters by Feynman on the topic really helped me get my head around it. I believe a book called "Six Not So Easy Pieces" had the relevant chapters - I've seen it sold for $5 to $10 at a few bookstores, so it's pretty cheap.

http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/ also has quite a lot of good explanations. I only came across that one recently, the sound section there is quite good.

In terms of threads on ATARNotes, I don't think you can pass by TrueTear's physics thread: TrueTears question thread
The majority of it focuses on Unit 4, but first 10ish pages is Unit 3 stuff from memory. There's some damn interesting discussions that was going on in that thread.

I've got a few more links bookmarked here and there, I'll dig them up again at a later point in time.

Motion is longer, although electronics is the most boring imo

Just plain boring. It wasn't overly difficult, much the same as 1/2 imo

Plain boring, a huge chunk of the interesting stuff was taken out of the Electronics and Photonics area of study with the new study design in 2009.

and sorry another questions; I'm just organizing my folder next year. Would you say motion has the most chapters in the textbook so the most work?

and did any of you guys do 'Structures and Materials?' Is it any good?

Motion has 3 chapters (heinemann) and electronics has 2, I think. So yeah, more questions.

Structures and materials actually makes electronics interesting at times. Fortunately, it's actually kinda straightforward, so it's a nice detailed study to do :)

Relativity is the most mathsy imo, but it also the hardest to grasp (its quite weird in its way)

S&M is the easiet, and the maths involved is pretty basic (basic trig, etc.)

Further elctronics (thats unit 3 right?) is apparently very hard, and if you don't like electronics, even worse. Not sure on the maths with this one though

edit: just realised I haven't replied to your PM yet, will do later this week, sorry about that

Title: Re: Physics Resources
Post by: b^3 on December 19, 2011, 02:17:25 pm
I wouldn't say further electronics is hard, it was just down-right annoying. And over the three exams worth of the current physics study design exams, there have always been one or twice questions on each exam that our textbook had no way of covering (keep in mind at this stage I was still stuck using Jacaranda, the other texbooks hopefully covered it). Although I did fluke the answer and guessed it right on the exam.

So in short, further electronics isn't hard, its just drives you crazy, don't do it. Plus realtivity looked fun, wish we did it.

seconds, while if you touch a metal tray in the same oven your hand will be burned. This is the tricky question I am having trouble with answering. Unit 1 Physics VCE.
