I seem to be using "critical" quite a lot in my language analysis. Can anyone recommend tones that can be used interchangeably with critical?

okay, so words for describing a tone similar to critical... There’s not really any word I can think of that perfectly encompasses all the connotations, but here’s a small list off the top of my head:
- emphatic
- condemning
- reproachful
- judgemental

Try googling the synonyms and definitions of these words and see what you can add to your vocabulary. Hope this helps you a little :)

I didn't do standard English but hopefully these help:

Derisive
Negative
Abrasive
Antagonistic
Sceptical
