Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were for 3/4 chem checkpoints.
Do you think they are worth buying? Did they help you out with your exams/pracs?

Yes, checkpoints is amazing and very worth it. Gives you a ton of exam style questions that will be very similar to those you see on the sacs and exam.

I used chem checkpoints for revision for every SAC and it was probably the best resource i had. it really does expose you to any sort of question that can be asked. the methods and spesh ones were equally amazing if youre doing those subjects, however i found the physics one not that great.

I agree with what's said above. They're best for SACS and for revision when revising an old topic. I didn't use them for exams though.
They have a great structure in that they introduce you to VCAA style questions which are awesome. This also means it spoils VCAA exams so if you're bothered by that then I wouldn't recommend it.

As has been already said, checkpoints are great as they have plenty of exam style questions that really help test your knowledge in preperation for SACs and exams. Additionally, I found doing checkpoints were very usefull to help me identify what I actually needed to know for a topic as by doing past exam questions while learning the content you can identify areas which you may not have covered properly in class or areas that are somewhat irrelevant (that perhaps you don't need to revise as much as other stuff).
Would recomend getting these for chem!

I think the fact that they are organised by area of study so you can use them for revision and have detailed answers (or at least more so than vcaa provides) is what makes them worth it, but it really depends on what you're looking for

The book is composed not entirely of past VCAA exam questions - there is a fair amount of question written by the checkpoints author themselves. I can see how this would be dissapointing if you were expecting completly unique exam questions, however I still think that this is a valuable resource.

Personally I didn't use checkpoints for 3/4 chem - however they can be very useful. Like some above have said they sort the question out by topic so makes it easy for students to focus on something they have just learned.
There are cons for this as you do get exposed to quite a lot of the vcaa exam questions so when you do them later in the year you don't get the real examination feeling as you have seen many of these questions before. (this is probably the main reason I strayed away from checkpoints). Although, this may not be something you feel is a negative so they might be a good fit for you.

The reason I was so interested in getting checkpoints was because I needed a lot of exam question practice, as I really struggled with that doing bio and I left that to the last minute. I think I will also get them for methods. Plus I think by the time I get to practice exams, I think I will forget most of those questions...
So I do think that I will invest in checkpoints. If any of you have other resources you used for questions, please let me know!
Also, another dumb question, does it really make any difference to get the lasted edition like 2020, I was thinking of just getting the 2019 one. Its the same study design.

I assume that the only difference will be the inclusion of questions from the 2019 VCAA / NHT exams? If that really is the case, I would advise against getting the newer one as you would want to be saving the most recent VCAA questions for right before the final exam.

Great, well that makes my life easier, and a bit cheaper. While i'm here (I know it is not the right thread), but did you use checkpoints for methods or do you think they would be helpful from your experience?

No I didn't use checkpoints for methods (for the same reasons as chem) - because I didn't want to spoil the vcaa exams that I would do later.
For Specialist Maths, I did have a copy of checkpoints but it was a 2006 version so very old which allowed me to get exam question practice early without spoiling the last 10 or so years of exams.
Again, they can be quite useful for some students so you just need to do what you think is the best for the way you learn.
