The Mid-year exam of doom and my associated advice

The Psych mid-year is coming up soon and I hope you all do well and I'll probably think of you as you're completing it.

Hopefully you're feeling confident and you more or less know the course. If not, don't fret, there is still time left.

If you know the whole course off by heart, there is a limit to what else you can do (is that a relieving thought?). Keep revising your notes every couple of days to maintain the same level of knowledge, do as many practice exams as physically possible and try to make your revision interesting - posters, lecturing your stuffed animals with no notes, etc. Invariably, on practice exams you will get questions wrong. Look back on these questions and analyse exactly what you did wrong. Is there a gap in your knowledge? Is it more to do with exam technique? Make sure you understand why you're getting it wrong and then write down what you've learned from it, also make a lists of the little obscure bits of information you pick up as well as more troubling concepts. Review this list. There isn't really any point to practice exams unless you're drawing this kind of thing from them.

It does well to remember that with Psych, as with any subject, just knowing the course is not going to earn you a perfect score, you have to be good at applying your knowledge, which is a bit more difficult (and difficult to discern whether or not you can do it).

All the best!!

Thanks for the advice! I would also add for all the psych students to read multiple choice clearly and try to cross out ones that you know are wrong. In some practice exams i have made easy mistake for not doing this and realised once I had read over it again.

Also, like i said above, when you finish the exam try to correct it or read over it and you should hopefully be able to pick up any mistakes, if you've made any.

The exam is good for time, most of them i have done there is still about 25 minutes left, so i correct them myself and correct ny errors.

Goodluck to everyone and I look forward to see how you and I went on August 4th!!!!!!!

BTW do you know when and how we get results? I think it is on the 4th of August?

Is it the same as the end of year results? Can you call, get msg, look on the internet or wait for it via the mail?

Sorry to go of topic again: but can you write in grey lead on the exam? Therefore, you can erase it easier and amend mistakes? Or would you suggest not to use pencil?

don't use pencil, its not a very good choice. write in pen. because if you write in pencil, by the time your exam moves through everything as in delivered then marked and stuff your writing might rub off, so best to go with black or blue biro

You have to do multiple choice in pencil though.

IMO pencil is alot easier to work with. And i dont think that  it would rub off when transported. If it was a neccessity, then vcaa would have said so- but yeah- whatever works for you!
