No actually they still do it. I think. My friend got an email saying he was on the waiting list. Maybe it is mixed?

Please correct me.
I already got in but for the sake of others, when did your friend get it? This year or last year?

Check personal message user ^^^111^^^ also the waiting list email, I'm pretty sure tells what position you are on being selected and what place you are on as well, in case someone rejects it.  The rejection email is sent once all places are filled and confirmed and there are no more places left meaning that you have officially been, "rejected."

Does anyone know the possibility of someone getting into the school on a second round offer, even though they haven't done the interview at all? Like will they still offer places to more people if they need to fill the 3% rule from each school?

Well, I would say that the chances are really low, because if you didn’t do the interview (as in not a Skype or irl one) you would be below everyone who did do one’s chance. So about 400 kids get an interview, so you’d have to hope enough of them rejected for you to be in the top 200 (plus you would have to be in the very top of the test people)

Could someone pls show the template of "the waiting list email" ?  Is it different to this not-first-round-offer-but-wait-for-second-round email?
"I write to advise that as a result of the assessment process held recently for entry to Year 10 at John Monash Science School in 2020; first round offers have now been made. I am unable to offer XXX XXX a place at this time. Whilst we have had a very large number of students apply for entry, there were only a limited number of places on offer."

When does the waiting list email come around? And as for the rejection email, the first round email says that if you haven't heard from the school till the end of october, then it means that you haven't been successful in the exam. So do we still get the rejection email or?

This is also from the JMSS 2017 entrance discussion.... :)

I'm a yr 12 student at JMSS lol not sure why I'm here but

The methods test wasn't too bad if you revised your school math notes.
I can't really remember now but they had stuff like the quadratic formula and trigonometry.

Technically, only students who are currently doing yr 10 extension maths are supposed to go into methods next year, (and they actually check for this) but I know some of my friends that only did yr 9 maths and somehow got into the methods class.
So why not just try your luck? :P :P

JMSS methods is death though just a warning
Good job guys for getting in though :D

This is for anyone who wants to know about the maths methods test.

What is the difference between a waiting list email, and just a rejection email???
The first round success email looks like this:
“Dear parent
As a result of the recent assessment process for entry to John Monash Science School, I write to offer ^^^111^^^ a place in Year 10 for 2020. I would like to sincerely congratulate ^^^111^^^ on this achievement. Edutest results will be available on request in Term 4.
In order for us to finalise our total Year 10 enrolment for next year, you need to accept this offer no later than the close of business 9th Sept 2019.”

The waiting list thing might look light these? For those don’t get in the first round
"Dear Parent
I write to advise that as a result of the assessment process held recently for entry to Year 10 at John Monash Science School in 2020; first round offers have now been made. I am unable to offer SynX a place at this time. Whilst we have had a very large number of students apply for entry, there were only a limited number of places on offer.r
We have advised students who have been offered a place to accept this offer by 9th September 2019. Should any of these places not be taken up, we will make further offers to other students until all available places have been filled.”

For rejection emails, they are quite simple: “ The enrollment process was unsuccessful, we decide not to offer enrollment to ...”

Upward and outward, no matter the cost.
