I've now decided to start a VCE journal to better keep track of my habits and my education journey, rather than only my personal growth. A friend of mine told me I should start one near the start of the year but I haven't found the motivation to do so until now.

It was because of the continued 'fails' I've experienced as of late in school, and I figured it'd be healthy to recognise what I'm doing wrong.

2019/Year 10 - Started Units 1/2 Biology. Earned a High Achiever award.

2020/Year 11 - Finished Units 3/4 Biology with a 35 Study Score. Started 1/2 Psychology, Methods, Specialist, Chemistry and English. Earned a High Achiever award.
> My initial goal was at least 40 for Bio, but I fell short due to my own lack of perseverance and laziness. Even though part of the fault can be blamed on the difficult circumstances, it is not enough of an excuse to blame my whole study score on it. I am to learn from this mistake.
> I was averaging 90's for Methods and Chemistry, mid 80's for Psychology, English and low 80's for Specialist. I did not prepare enough for my exams and ended up with 60's for Methods and Specialist, 30's for Chemistry and 80's for Psychology and English.

2021/Year 12 - Current.
> Currently aiming to study between 2-3 hours a night and 10 on the weekend.
As of now, I am falling short of that goal some nights due to a need for mental rest. I've realised I'm quick to become exhausted from overworking myself, especially as my hobbies of editing and gaming are also active activities.
Realistically I'm doing about 2 hours a night and 7 on the weekend.

With a rough end to 2020 and rough start to 2021, I've started to pick up the pace a little, bringing my initial 30% scores up to an 88% most recently. What actually prompted me to start this was a panic during today's Chemistry SAC which I thought would've been easy but I'm 90% sure I failed.

End of year goals
> 40+ Scaled Study Scores all around for an ATAR around 95.

I'm looking to update this bi-weekly.

Hello Ylsovr and welcome to the ATAR notes community!
I really like how you've decided to set down your goals for the year. (sniff sniff, I can smell an incoming 95 ATAR...) Can totally relate to the experience of doing a 3/4 and not meeting the goals for it. After all, it's just an experience that we can all remember and learn from! As of now, please do not fret if you need mental breaks. Definitely take some for a brief refresher and then hit the ground running again. Even I do this too! (unfortunately, I'm not a fellow gamer but I enjoy reading and listening to some tunes on my Spotify). I definitely look forward to seeing more 'pensive' updates. hehehe.

You've inspired me to update my own journal... which is ought to be updated  :o ;)

- Mary

PS: Can totally relate to the chemistry panic studying. This was utter hell when my teacher decided to schedule a sac on the same day as my English comparative sac. yikes.

That's not so true, we all have our different goals and perspectives. Within our mess of difficulty I'm sure we all find a light, persevering past our initial struggles and not putting our mistakes in the past, but confronting whilst not loathing on them.

Hey Mary, it's nice to hear that I have someone to relate to around here. I'm glad I was able to influence you. I took a look at your post and I can see it might be a little outdated. Just a little.

17/5/21
Other than that, thank you all for the warm welcome. I didn't expect such a community around here since I'll be honest, historically I have immediately deleted every ATARNotes email I get. Funnily enough, today was the day that changed and I look a look at a few other forum posts and motivational speeches to restore some hope in my academic life. Being away from school for 2 days does lead to me needing some catch up to do.

After feeling entirely defeated about my Chemistry SAC last Wednesday, I was relieved today to receive my score today which was not as catastrophic as I initially thought - 70% (I thought I got a 40%) - though far from my goal, I've decided to take failures into my own hands and work to fix my mistakes from any potential future errors, especially on the Chemistry exam. I realised I can attribute my failure to poor preparation for the manner of the SAC. As helpful as past exam questions are, they can only help so much when it comes to a knowledge application SAC based on practical observations.

TL;DR - I learned a lesson in ill preparation, not by time, but by nature of revision that I decide upon.

Looking forwards, I have a Specialist SAC on Wednesday and I'm dreading the practice SAC our teacher gave us. It's an application task that will take place on Wednesday, Friday and Monday during 80 minute periods. I don't understand it, pain.

I'm back. I honestly forgot about this until this week started, but that's fine.
Just finished my first Specialist SAC which was an investigation over 3 80 minute periods. I must say, the first 2 parts were fine, but I don't know how I can describe the pain I went through in the 3rd part (none of my classmates finished).

I got my Psychology SAC back and my practice English SACs, and I can definitely see the improvement I'm starting to make after pumping in 2 hours a day. Not quite the 3 hours I want but it's the bare minimum that I'm reaching which is much better than nothing.
Also, the exam timetable came out. I have all my exams back to back except for English which I assume may actually be standard for many people.

TL;DR - Things are looking brighter. I'm putting in more hours and I've written a few practice body paragraphs in preparation for my English SAC next Friday.

Hey,
This is awesome progress that you're making. With the effort you're putting in, I have no doubt that you'll do well this year. I'm so happy that things are slowly improving! Better to be late than never. Man, exams being stacked back to back are a massive pain too.

Keep up the hustle!

Thanks for the kind words Mary, they'll be pushing me forwards. Also I realise it's probably the most normal thing to have exams back to back, oh well.

Looks like we're returning to school on Friday, just in time for my English SAC. I was naive enough to not revise over English in expectations that we wouldn't be returning to school. Regardless, now I'm scrummaging all my notes and quotes together to prepare for Friday. Though I've been doing at least 4 hours of English every weekend so I won't have much to do other than to remember key quotes and some vocabulary as I feel prepared for the most part - highs on my essays :D

Not too much different is going on. I've been incredibly lazy these past 2 weeks without any real reason, though I'm not falling behind at all. Mainly, I'm struggling with integration of circular functions in Specialist, though I guess I'll just have to keep practicing.

We're finally back at school! Honestly I don't know how long I would've lasted in quarantine, but all is good now.
A majority of my cohort was under the assumption that our English text response SAC on Friday would've either been delayed or cancelled, including myself. Unfortunately this meant I was ill prepared. I'm hoping for an 80%; I chose the quote prompt and completely forgot to include the quote in my essay, probably leading to me losing a whole mark. It's not the end of the world, but I'm mad.

Today we just had the first part of our Methods investigation task. Honestly easiest thing I've done this year. I don't want to be overly confident and say I aced it, but I'd be surprised if I dropped more than 2 marks.
So far things are going relatively well and smoothly. Just printed out some Methods and Specialist practice exams from 2001, hoping to start practice exams some time next month!

Honestly, pretty good week. I feel really confident about how the Methods SAC went and I look forwards to my mark. As for Specialist, I got a 68% which is actually better than I thought and I'm satisfied.

English oral presentation coming up on Thursday. I'm talking about how sexual education should be included in our education system, so I hope all goes well.

Other than that, this week has been really productive. I started using this productivity app called Habitica, and it basically rewards your studying with in game currency based off a trust and discipline system. I'm loving it and have managed to exceed my goals this week.

Huh... So much for bi-weekly.
Anyways, I received basically all my SACs back in just in the past week. I wouldn't say I'm extremely happy, but I'm satisfied with my marks that I got on my past 4 SACs. Though, to be honest, I'm more bewildered about the fact that all 4 SACs I got the exact same percentage. As much as I'd love to get back into that 90's range, I'm very satisfied with my progress this year and I only have more to look forwards to.

I've started printing off a heap of exams and I'm ready to start some trial exams near the start of the next term or during the upcoming break. It's nearly time! (If I know all my content at least)

Edit 1: Ah right... That English SAC from like 3 weeks ago... I apparently met my goal which is surprising. So there seems to be little to fear.

I opted in to act in my friend's media film. It ended up going for 4 nights and I'm left feeling super tired, so I didn't end up doing much last week or this week up until now.

I'll be completely honest, I feel out of inspiration, breath and words to say. I've come to the understanding that my ambition has not been fully met, which is okay too. Lately, I've been putting myself through some of the lectures available here and I must say, they've been for the most part very helpful.

I'm highly anticipating that the next term will require maximum efforts for every single week of it. To prepare for such, I've been chipping away hours of revision and homework most days. Our VCE journey is just over half way.

Welcome back for my overdue update!
Lately I've been working at it, clocking in around 5 hours of study a day thanks to the lockdown! I no longer have to travel 2 hours to get home, and honestly it is such a blessing. As much as I hated this climate last year, I feel like a brand new student.
