But if you performed well in both VCE and your university studies, for instance with Distinction to High Distinction averages consistently in your undergrad, then shouldn't this mean it is more likely that you will be one of the 50% of people to be offered a CSP?

Re: Arts/Law.
- I really want to continue with some Science next year, and Melbourne makes this a more available choice with the Melbourne Model.
- I live close to the city, but getting to Clayton since the new Ls and Ps laws were introduced would be difficult.  I would probably have to move, and after asking today it seems that all of the accommodation is full, and it's a bit late to start looking for people to move out with next year, I still need to get a job...
- Media Communications will let me do more Journalism and Media subjects than I would be able to do in the Arts/Law degree which is the side of the degree that I am most interested in pursuing for the time being.

+ It says that I am guaranteed at least entry for achieving a score over 99?  Whether that be CSP or not, by that time I may be working part time and able to take out a loan that permits me to pay full fee, etc.

I would have loved to consider Journalism/Law, as sometimes you can do a double degree that isn't listed.  Problem is, the divided campuses make this impossible.  Journalism at Monash is only available at Caulfield, and the new Law building won't be at Caulfield till 2012 which is still some time away!  Caulfield is such an easier campus for me...
2009 ENTER: 99.05

2015+: PhD (Immunology) at UoM

I know you say full-fee placement isn't so bad, but is it POSSIBLE that you will be selected for a csp with an enter under the guaranteed entry specification for csp?
Like, if you have done well enough with your scores in your Undergrad?
They can't ONLY offer csps to people who got over 99.90 can they?

no, you need 99.00 fullplace and 99.90 for csp. if you get 98.95 its not enough for fullfee and 99.85 isn't even enough for csp.
but just study hard in your undergrad and apply for grad anyways, you dont need a garenteed csp to get in.
all places are csp at a graduate level except for international students which are fullfee

Actaully, this may be wrong, but my understanding is that only 50% of places are going to be CSP, the rest (of domestic places) are full fee.

well what i said was true for med, i would have assumed that all grad courses are similar.
where all places are CSP and then the international students are fullfee.

Yeah it's not the case for all grad courses. For example the Melbourne JD is 50% CSP (http://jd.law.unimelb.edu.au/go/future-students/fees-and-scholarships/fees-and-scholarships-local)

There is a shuttle bus that runs from Caulfield to Clayton and back, but I suppose it can be an arduous trip.

It takes me about an hour to get to Caulfield already, and my mother is interested in moving us further north... D:
I really did wish I lived closer to the campus, or there was a better form of transportation that could get me to the University faster!

Yes, this is correct. There will be both full fee domestic places aswell as CSP. The abolishment of full fee domestic places has only been applied to undergraduate degrees.

Any idea if there's any plans to change the JD guaranteed entry pathway, similar to what they've done to Engineering?

For Eng, there's no enter threshold. As long as you get 65%+ in your last 2 years your guaranteed entry into the Masters of Eng

AIKI that is actually incorrect. You can apply for the MofEng with a 65+ average but you will not be guaranteed entry. Guaranteed Entry are for students who got above 96 as well as maintaining an average above 65

Hmm that was their original plan but AFAIK they've changed it. From their website: http://www.eng.unimelb.edu.au/Postgrad/MEng/admissions/fees.html

Effective immediately, and valid for commencements in the Master of Engineering up until 2014 (inclusive), all local students articulating from New Generation Bachelors degrees with engineering systems majors or sequences who meet the entry requirements for the Master of Engineering, will receive a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) in the Master of Engineering.

This new commitment means local students now in Years 11 and 12 will receive a CSP for the duration of their engineering studies through the Melbourne Model. It also means that students currently in New Generation degrees at the University of Melbourne, taking an engineering systems major or sequence, who meet the entry requirements for the Master of Engineering, are also guaranteed a CSP in the Masters.

Local students in Year 10 and below can be assured that at least 50% of places in the Master of Engineering in 2015 and beyond will be CSP and that in addition, the School will offer scholarships in the Master of Engineering from 2011 onwards for high achievers.

This new guarantee supercedes the former policy guaranteeing a CSP in the Masters to those with an ENTER of 95 or above, entering New Generation degrees with engineering systems majors or sequences
