Why do you people believe the perfomance of the Indian team is so woeful as of late?
I have this argument with my friends often and I want to know your people opinions.

Is it due to age?
The wealth of money players earn from IPL?

I heard there's a huge amount of corruption in the team selection process, so a lot of the time talented players aren't picked up early due to not being able to bribe the selectors.

All I can say is age. The team is selected on past records, like Laxman, Dravid, Sehwag and even Ghambir have nice averages but the game has gone past them, it's simple the potential outweighs the talent.

Both of these reasons.

India have had the same big name players for years. It's hard to ask for these guys to come through now after so long. Just like how Australia had to pat guys like Hayden, Lee and Langer on the shoulder, India needs to rebuild.

Because the BCCI are incompetent idiots and potentially because of the cultural respect for the experienced players and refusing to drop them when they're not up to it any more.

I guess also because India has traditionally just played to their strengths and never really bothered to try and cope outside India, but that's not a reason for their decline

In test matches, over the past year, india has really struggled on tour:
1-1 vs RSA, 1-0(out of 3) against WI in WI, 4-0 vs the poms in england, and now 4-0 vs aus in aus.

however, let me make australian fans aware of this:
before the recent test series,
australia drew 1 all with RSA in RSA, 1 all with NZ at home, won 1-0(3 games) against sri lanka, in sri lnka, lost 3-1 at home against the poms,

this record isnt all that great either, esp. since nz and the poms  at home.

look at indias record at home: won 2-0 vs aus, 1-0 vs nz(of 3),  2-0 (of 3) vs WI, and also a 5-0 win over england in an odiseries

Also take into consideration the involvement of most indian players - except ofc laxman, dravid , in the IPL.

so i dont thinks its fair that when a team loses badly that u come to conclusions.
australia was facing similar criticism, but they have now proven themselves, and everyones cool. this is a continuous cycle in sport, and i think india is just having no success at the moment due to many reasons.

i really think india isnt in a state of decline, but just in power off mode. like they have the potential but its just a slump.. which every team has.
india now has consecutive test series at home over the next 2 years, hopefully they an power up, spark revival and regain the trust of its fans, media and critics.
laxman, sachin,  dravid are great cricketers, and i still think they all have the potential for some big knocks, but maybe it is time to give the younger ones a chance. tendulkar , well i hope to see him back in australia 2014.. , not cause i love him so much, but cause he shows no indication of leaving the game. hopefully he can play another great year like 2010, in 2012,/13!
dravid had a great year in retrospect, but the aus series has made all his achievements look like nothing,,, but meh

A slump isnt a decline mate ..
Ill simplify that sentence : indian cricket team is  good unit ,( especially  when some younger blood joins. ) but like any team in sport , theyre having a bad run , mainly on tour,

When australia lost the ashes in England back a few years ago with the team they had, Ponting, Hayden, gilly, langer, McGrath, they weren't in decline, but rather having a " slump ", same thing here.

They have lost the hunger to play, and then win.

Without that, they will be declining only.

i do believe some hunger to play well exists in the one day team, the team itself has an average younger than that of the test time, and some of young boys are actually competitive and show some emotion and passion when it is required.
But I honestly i think this state of decline may be only temporally.
I probable that all the Indian needs is another, spark or a few more wins to get back on tract, just as Sachin who's performance declined during 2006 came back to respond to his critics....

maybe the Indian will as well.

That's the definition of a decline...

Unless you handwave anything away by saying "it's just a bad run, it'll get better soon" and refuse to actually look at what's happening
