Hi guys! I was just wondering (I’m from VCE) why there’s paper 1 and paper two for subjects like chemistry? Do you guys have like 6 hours of exams or do you just choose which session to Go to?

Candidates sit both papers; Paper A and Paper B
Paper A: 10 mins reading time + 2 hours 30 mins writing time
Spoiler
Paper One will consist of multiple choice and short response questions and be a closed book examination. Data tables will be supplied. In Part A — Knowledge of subject matter, the questions will assess all eight syllabus topics. In Part B — Scientific processes, the questions will assess the following topics:
Materials — properties, bonding and structure
• Reacting quantities and chemical analysis
• Oxidation and reduction
• Gases and the atmosphere
• Energy and rates of chemical reactions.
Paper B: 10 mins reading time + 2 hours writing time
Spoiler
Paper Two will:
• consist of five extended response questions that assess each candidate’s ability to use
complex reasoning processes. Candidates choose four questions to respond to
• be an open book examination. Candidates will be permitted to bring any relevant paper-based
written or printed material into the examination room. Data tables will be supplied.
• Reacting quantities and chemical analysis
• Oxidation and reduction
• Organic chemistry
• Chemical periodicity
• Gases and the atmosphere
• Energy and rates of chemical reactions
