What HSC exam mark do I need to get a band 6 for legal?

Okay so, I've calculated my internal assessment mark and I currently sit on 92. Would you be able to give me a rough estimate as to what HSC exam mark I need to achieve a band 6 in legal overall?

Also I have shits in my class that don't try and do horribly and I'm afraid they're going to bring me down (I'm talking about people who got 7% for their trial marks...). The school I go to also doesn't rank in the top 600 in the state...yeah. Is it true that they're going to bring my mark down? Or is it high enough to be considered as an "outlier"?

Thanks in advance!

For Jamon's reference, can you please state your raw mark for the trials?

Also consider the raw marks database.

Thanks for the help above Rui ^^ ;D

Okay Nick, so a few things.

- The rank of your school is totally irrelevant, especially with marks as good as yours. Won't drag you down at all; are you ranked 1st at your school? Because if you are, you are immune to any negative effects of mark moderation! In your words, definitely, you are an outlier ;)
- Assuming you are first, your Exam mark will get averaged with itself to obtain your HSC mark. Meaning that, neglecting a few complications/complexities, your HSC mark will be whatever you get in the Exam. Given that you are already getting 90+ Raw in Exam scenarios, I'd be feeling very confident of attaining Band 6 Level results :)
- My Trial Mark was 93% (or was it 92? can't remember) in the CSSA, so you sound like you are on a similar level to me (sorry if that sounded a bit blunt aha). And I state ranked, so you are definitely on the right track! ;)

Essentially, if you do as well in the HSC as you did in your Trial, you'll get a Band 6, and if you work really hard you may even get something better! ;D

Hey man thanks for all the wise words :) but when you say ranked 1st in your school, did you mean overall or in legal studies? Overall I'm second in my school, but first in legal if that's what you meant!

This question has nothing to do with legal studies but its just a general Q. Are the bands you get determined according to your raw HSC marks? or is it determined after all the scaling?

They are determine by aligned marks.

Scaling is what UAC does to your marks to get you an ATAR.

How are aligned marks calculated?

How are aligned marks calculated?
The alignment algorithm is withheld by BOSTES and changes every year to reflect the fact that some years are harder than others.

Does getting more band 6s give you a better ATAR? Or do the bands have no relevance in the calculation of the atar?

No. They only look at your marks.

First in Legal is definitely what I meant! Overall rank is more like just an abstract thing, doesn't matter since they take all subjects separately ;D

Rui's right! That said, Performance Bands are normally a pretty good indicator of where your ATAR sits. Just by the nature of the process. Here is my article summarising all of this stuff! :)
