Title: What is the last album you listened to?
Post by: Sine on July 04, 2020, 03:53:01 pm
What is the last album you listened to in its entirety from start to finish?

My last album was RTJ4 yesterday which is also probably my current album of the year for 2020.

Also, comment if you don't remember the last time (I know playlists are more popular now).

'Six: The Musical' album is my favourite and I'm pretty sure it was the last whole album I listened to. I rarely ever listen to whole albums at once though, I  prefer playlists to have constant changes in artists and song styles.

Each of the queens' song are really different, but my favourite is 'Don't lose your head', also 'Ex-wives'. AHHHH they are all good though!!
Also, I like broadway songs because I can replay them a much higher amount of times than other songs of other genres, and still enjoy them as much.

Don't Let Go - Dear Seattle

Absolute fave of mine, got robbed in the 2019 Hottest 100 😢

Also easily one of the best groups I've listened to live, highly recommend going to see them when things open up again

It would've been Twenty One Pilots' 'Blurryface' when it made its 5th anniversary in May - but just yesterday I listened to Tyler, The Creator's 'Flower Boy'.

3.15.20 - Childish Gambino. At first, I thought it was a bit meh but as I kept on listening to it I can now say I am addicted  ;D. Favourite album of 2020 so far!

I have two answers for this  :o I've recently listened to Charlie Puth's Voicenotes album in full for the first time in months (it used to be my study music in my HSC :D ) but I also technically listened to the soundtrack of Hamilton in full too because I streamed it on Disney Plus for the premiere  ;D

Hey angewina,

I love Hamilton too! I streamed the premiere as well and it was absolutely amazing to watch as I've never actually seen it before (I've only listened to the soundtrack before the premiere). I also love how I was aware of the historical background of the play as I studied the American Revolution in QCE Modern History so it was extremely useful to have a sense of what was going on if you know what I mean. I think the conceptual and historical knowledge of the events of the play really adds to the impact, significance and message of the play.

In terms of the question: "What was the last album I listened to?" - my answer would probably have to be the soundtrack of the Into The Woods film (the Disney version). As much as I love the original version of the play, Anna Kendrick's beautiful vocals in the songs - especially in the song "No One is Alone" - really hurt me (in a good way) as, without that song, I would have never realised how grateful I am for everything that I have, even the smallest things that I usually take for granted. It even made me realise how fragile life is, as it isn't something that we can cling onto forever.

Sorry for my little analysis, I'm just a die-hard English nerd. Especially when it comes to analysing.

Have a great week and kind regards,

Darcy Dillon.

^ everyone needs to give the soundtrack of Hamilton a full listen through if you haven't already. Three forum users from three different states have consecutively recommended it  8)

You can ask me this question every week and half the time my answer will be the same — including today.

Now That the Party's Over - The Lazy Susans. One of my favourite bands of all time - they just have this raw and real sound that I really vibe with - always feel pretty good after a listen of their music. Really sad I might not hear them live this year, I've done it once every 6 or so months for the past couple of years :'(

Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.

Won't go into too much detail since you could write multiple thesis on this.

This album plays both forwards and backwards and tells two different stories. The 14 tracks can be considered to be all paired up. E.g. LUST. and LOVE., PRIDE. and HUMBLE., FEEL. and LOYALTY., BLOOD. and DNA. etc also with tracks having multiple pairings but it all comes together cohesively for the whole album. You can kind of see based on the names of the tracks how the order of the tracks would change the meaning of the album.

Juice WRLD - Legends Never Die and Green Day - Kerplunk!.

Oddly enough (perhaps as a result of this thread ???), I've gotten back into listening to albums as opposed to playlists - it's so easy to let the stories they tell pass us by when playing the songs individually in a playlist :)

Definitely agree, even if you listen to full albums occasionally they do add an extra layer of understanding to each individual track giving more context when you listen to singles on their own (given the album is made well).

Currently, it is still definitely a singles era so there are quite a bit of albums which aren't thematically coherent and play more like a playlist.

The closest I've got to listening to a whole album all at once is just recently - 'With All My Heart', 2018 (I think), the latest album by Amira Willighagen (her first was Amira, then Merry Christmas, now With All My Heart; I like youtube having albums up as a whole playlist. :) I strongly recommend, by the way.)
