Is my calculator dumb?
« on: September 26, 2008, 08:41:06 pm »

Lately I feel my calculator has been calculating slower than usual... either that or failing to calculate at all. This is most notable when I am trying to solve equations. Do you think this could be because of low batteries or could it be a virus? I got an update from a friend a while ago and he had a few games, but I've deleted them all.

Btw, can your calculator solve this approximately? Just checking..

for ?

Hmm this is odd, because in the solutions there is actually a calculator screen which displays:

                                                                                                                     n = 65.8876

They didn't even put a restriction on n, so I had suspicions it might be fake... or maybe not?

lol it's not fake. And calculators can't get viruses. Their operating system is very basic, it's only ROM. I just don't see it happening now lul.

Your calculator uses numerical methods to solve instead of exact methods. You will always get an approximate answer, but it can solve more complicated stuff. Also, it will only give 1 solution, no matter how many there really are.
