Ok sorry to be a pain, but one more clarification:
From most to least resistant to extinction:
- Variable ratio
- Variable interval
- Fixed ratio
- Fixed interval
- Continuous schedule
From highest to lowest rate of responding: (where does continuous fall?)
- Variable ratio
- Fixed ratio
- Fixed interval
- Variable interval
Best for acquisition: Continuous schedule
Best for maintenance: Partial reinforcement
Pleeease correct me if I'm wrong!!
I think they both sound right; they make more sense to me than some of the suggestions. But I'm not sure where continuous is for the second either - not that it's likely we'll be tested on that.
Can someone explain to me why partial schedules of reinforcement are less susceptible to extinction than continuous ones?
