Teaching for Impact (TFI) VCE English Revision Lecture Series
Saturday, 9 October – Sunday, 10 October

Hope everyone is keeping well amid COVID and exam study!

By way of introduction, my name is Victor, a junior doctor based in Melbourne with a passion for reducing health and educational inequities in the community. Recently, I, along with several of my colleagues, cofounded Teaching for Impact (TFI), a youth-led, not-for-profit organisation that seeks to create meaningful impact within the community through the delivery of targeted educational initiatives designed to improve educational outcomes and close the gap of inequity for disadvantaged students.

TFI currently runs several programs designed to support both high school students and medical students in their studies. Over the past few months, the TFI VCE team has been hard at work preparing a series of end-of-year online revision lectures in the hope of helping VCE students across the state consolidate all the knowledge that they have learnt throughout this year and provide critical insight into how they can apply this knowledge to achieve their full potential in the final VCE exams.

VCE English

TFI will be running 3 VCE English lectures this month. All lectures will be delivered by recent VCE graduates who achieved raw study scores of 48+. These lectures have been designed to provide students with crucial insight into how they can translate all the knowledge and skills that they have acquired this year to excel in the end-of-year exam.

The lecture schedule is as follows:

VCE English Lecture 1: Argument Analysis
  • Date: Saturday, 9 October
  • Time: 5.00 PM to 6.00 PM
  • Lecturer: Wendi Zhao, current Doctor of Medicine student who achieved a raw study of 49 in VCE English
  • Purpose: To walk students through the most unpredictable section of the exam and the techniques you will need to analyse unseen articles well
  • Register: https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=812157&

VCE English Lecture 2: Text Response
  • Date: Saturday, 9 October
  • Time: 6.00 PM to 7.00 PM
  • Lecturer: Sonia Li, current Bachelor of Arts student who achieved a raw study score of 50 in VCE English; and Michael Chen, recent VCE graduate who achieved a raw study score of 48 in VCE English
  • Purpose: To consolidate key themes and messages of two popular texts (Rear Window and Station Eleven) and provide crucial exam advice
  • Register: https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=812164&

VCE English Lecture 3: Comparatives
  • Date: Sunday, 10 October
  • Time: 5.00 PM to 6.00 PM

Live4Life

The TFI VCE English Lecture Series will be run as a fundraising initiative to support Live4Life, a registered health promotion charity that delivers accredited teen and youth mental health first aid training in regional and rural communities. We share in Live4Life’s belief in the importance of reducing stigma around mental health and promoting young leaders as mental health ambassadors, and invite all high school students across Victoria to join us in our campaign to make a meaningful contribution toward this worthy cause.

While we do not have any mandatory registration fees for our lectures, we do encourage all students to make a donation in good faith, however small, to this worthy cause when registering for each lecture. A contribution from each student, even as little as $5 (the price of a cup of coffee), can collectively make a world of difference for the vulnerable youths in Victoria that we are hoping to support.

To find out more about the work that Youth4Life does, please visit their website: https://www.live4life.org.au/what-is-live4life.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!  :)
