I've never heard that Gel pens were allowed since you are restricted to blue and black pens in the exam. However, you might be able to use a blue or black gel pen I;m assuming [just don't make it glittery] . Just out of curiosity,  what makes you want to use Gel pens and not normal ball point pens? And what subject do allow you to use gel pens?

Are scented ones allowed too?

Jokes aside, VCAA only specifies the colour of the pen (blue or black) not the type of pen. So I guess you can?

Then in that case feel free to use them because they aren't glittery, and my school we have a lot of kids that use REALLY inky pens and the teachers have told them it's okay to use them in exams. If you think they make you write faster, then definitely go ahead!!! However just be cautious of smudging, which may potentially make your answers difficult to read.

I would assume that VCAA specifies specific use of pens for a reason - to me it seems like its for scanning/readability reasons if anything.

Most exams are scanned for electronic viewing by assessors (the whole hard copy marking/swap over routine between assessors isnt as popular as it once was).

All you have to do is write something in red and scan that to see how crappy it turns out (I tried it the other day at work and it was absolutely hideous - you could barely read it)

I would highly recommend you seek advice either from VCAA or your school's VCE coordinator. No one here speaks for the VCAA + you don't want to turn up to your exam with only gel pens, to realise that they aren't permitted.

Okay SreaMy,

I would recommend you stick to Aaron's advice, he's more of an exert than I am. And he also has got a valid point which I failed to consider.

On your own printer, sure (which I assume is only used by yourself and probably your immediate family). You cannot guarantee that they won't smudge or anything. I don't know the specific differences between gel pens and ballpoint ones (perhaps somebody can clarify?), but like I said, they would not tell you to use a specific type of pen for no reason.

Speak to somebody who knows the reasoning behind it (VCAA/school VCE coordinator/an assessor?). When you think about it, we're all just making assumptions here.

If that's the case, then go ahead, However I would recommend talking to your teachers about it and having some back-up pens just in case something goes wrong. Anymore concerns?

I guess as long as it's dark and it doesn't smudge, it's all good. I used a black gel pen for my Psych exam last year and there didn't seem to be any problems ;D

This G2 premium gel pen is among the favorite picks because of its high-quality 0.7-millimeter tip design that delivers fine lines. While these gel pens provide a superb writing experience, they are also among the most efficient and longest-lasting gel pens that I’ve tried compared to other brands.
