Title: Rate your QCE exams out of 10!
Post by: Joseph41 on October 22, 2021, 02:00:28 pm
With QCE exams kicking off, I thought it would be nice to have a place to rate your exams out of 10 as they come and go. When each exam finishes, use this thread to reflect on how you think it went.

If your exams haven't yet started, you can use this thread to predict how you think they'll go!

Good luck everybody. :)

econ: man that was a curveball haha. the density of crying year twelves post-exam topped our last day of school, which is no easy feat. do i regret the amount of time i spent memorising every detail of each labour reform since federation? well, no, because it helped me feel prepared. do i wish i'd known how random, specific and application-based the exam would be so i could've spent those hours on chemistry instead? hell yes. not cool qcaa.

english: macbeth students i am so jealous... it wasn't bad at all though. the worst part of the whole situation was the amount of title panic on the qce english facebook page afterwards. WE DO NOT NEED A TITLE...

good luck methods ppl we will absolutely ace it

Good luck for the methods people for tomorrow!!

(For this post to be relevant, I will rate my English exam a 7/10 and for anyone's information, the question I chose was "How was the reader invited to view the concept of masculinity in Macbeth?")

Adding to this post-methods and spesh (and English)...

English: I'll give it a 9 (since I did Macbeth). I actually wrote my mock on masculinity and it did pretty well, so I ended up just reusing my arguments to answer the question to be safe. But the 'coward' question also had a lot of points to write about.

Methods: Was pretty good! Personally I found paper one easier than paper 2. From what I've heard P2 last question threw off a lot of people because they didn't know what a real root was. If that's the case then the spesh kids would have had an advantage. I'll give it a solid 8 or 9.

Specialist: I'll talk about paper 1 first, which was pretty smooth-sailing in my opinion. However, I'm sure I lost at least two marks, the first for a minor error on multiple choice, the second because I didn't read the final question properly. I got the time the two particles were 4m apart (7pi/12 was what I got) but didn't read the part about finding the position of A at this time, so surely lost at least one mark for that. And I probably made a few stupid mistakes just bc of nerves.
Paper 2 was... not fun. My first instinct in perusal was to look at the final question, and that drove me so close to throwing up just because of how ugly that probability density function looked (in the end it wasn't too bad after I realised they gave us the n value). But seeing that to begin with drove me into a state of panic for the whole exam, so I ended up finding the paper harder than it actually was. It wasn't impossible, just very uncomfortable to complete under pressure. I was also on a crunch for time and didn't get to check my answers for the CU questions.

So paper one I'll give a seven. Paper 2 I'll give a five. Overall, a six for specialist.

What did you do in English?

And methods went…?

Personally Music was great, good to get an easy one out of the way on that first day because I was nervous for externals being in that new situation. So like 9/10?

English. My prep was terrible but I think I did alright (I was on like 70/75 beforehand so wasn’t really too worried). I chose the coward question for Macbeth because I didn’t know as much about masculinity as I would have about femininity. So 8/10 for that I reckon because the question was pretty good and from memory my essay was alright but it was a week and a half ago.

Methods went pretty badly but that was expected. The first paper was pretty easy and the second was terrible but that happened on my IA3 so hopefully it evens out again and I pass :) My requirements going in to that exam were a D+ on the paper to get a C in methods overall or a C on the paper to get a C+ overall. So I’d probably rate it like 6/10 or 7/10?

Then I had bio today. I can’t be bothered to write a big paragraph about that lol but I’d rate it 8/10 because it probably wasn’t quite as good as English even though it was way better than maths.

ah that sucks, i'm sorry it didn't go as you'd hoped. scaling will have our backs though for sure. and hey, CONGRATULATIONS FOR FINISHING BIO TODAY!! i dropped out a few weeks into year 11 bio and i have so much respect for people who've continued... there is just so much content.

i was super happy with how i went on methods. i think i was lucky in that the skills i'd practiced lined up really well with what was on the external. paper 2 was definitely the harder of the two but i was very confident with my performance in both papers - honestly i think i might give it a 10/10  :o
