Be honest that I actually practiced math A LOT MORE than any the other tests(like I my mum explain complex math stuffs to me since she’s really good at it); but after I done numerical better than I expect, my brain just somehow goes off and I can’t even think or figure out any math questions. All I can remember that day for math is like there’s literally no questions that I had done before(expect for a few); and I’m shocked and mentally died during that test so I didn’t really do anything but just sit there and guess(how dumb).

I did the Hendersons’ math and didn’t do so well on that(I still did okay tho), so I studied every single questions on that test and did a lot questions similar to that and thought I would do well on the actual test. But nah, I just somehow lost the energy of thinking during math and gets more anxious when I saw people around me done a lot but I’m just being slow and can’t figure out anything.

For numerical, I didn’t do any deep meaning questions(even though some of them are short but still have a big hole in it), so I went and did the ones that seems not aim to trick you.(most of them are not on the first page and it’s not short as well, but the content of the question can be simple). Number patterns are not that hard for me as I can normally figure out within 30-40 seconds. There’s a lot times that I know there’s only two answers are similar to what the questions’ talking about; and sometimes I also didn’t really figure out the answer but there’s only one possible answer so I chose that and moved on. So in my opinion, strategy of the test are the most important thing for numerical(I think it’s better than prepare a lot of knowledge); unlike math, I don’t have to know too much content and stress out during the test lol.

And btw, DON’T WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT NUMERICAL because there’s like around 80 kids in my school did the test, and most of them said that numerical are the hardest. Many of them only did like 10-15 questions and guessed the rest(just like how i did for math lol), so I really think that you should be fine(ur probably going to get a high or above average for numerical I assume). And because u did extremely well in math and reading(definitely two superiors) plus u also did writing very well(above average -superior ); as long as you don’t get a low or below average for verbal, you’re definitely going to get in! I doubt that you will get anything below high average for verbal.

I heard that we’re getting our result on the night of the 7th so let’s wait as it’s only 4 more days till that day :)

BRO ITS OKAY IF U STUFFED MATHS BECAUSE DOING 20 QUESTIONS IS STANDARD. The only reason i did good on maths is because i did a methods unit 3&4 textbook. And i only prepared for the achievement tests.

OH WOW MATE SERIOUSLY U DID THE METHODS 3&4! Ur definitely going to get in no jokes because there’s  more than half of the people who did sat on the exam didn’t prepare for reasoning tests as well tho(literally 90% kids in my school find numerical hard)

Just stay positive for now and ur 100% going to get in(it would be a dream for me to do that well like you did)
welp I’m procrastinating rn

No they take Reasoning tests as more valuable because it tests ur problem solving skills. The thing is u can’t prepare for numerical reasoning, but for maths if u do a lot of practice, u will be fine. And btw my friend did a specialist maths book before the exam, so he’s probably gonna get 60/60

Even I can work out all the problems, I rarely get a 100%... the accuracy is around 92% which is not great.
Upward and outward, no matter the cost.

No, doing a specialist maths textbook will not guarantee a 60/60, I assure you. How do I know [you ask]? Because that's exactly what I did, and I completed the whole Mathematical methods textbook for units 1/2 but penultimately found the Methods book a lot more helpful than anything else (for the maths exam). Actually the spesh book was more helpful for numerical reasoning as it had like formulas to  find a certain number for *series i.e. t(N)= a + (n-1)d where
t(N) is the number that you are looking for.
n is the quantity of numbers in series
d is the difference
a is the first number of the arithmetic series
*There are others for geometric and infinite series! (Which I had studied for some stupid reason, the infinite series was of no use)

So overall yh guys, the specialist book is more helpful for numerical ( the spesh book also had like simultaneous equations with 3 variables and ways to solve almost every worded problem out there!)
The Maths methods book, I found, is more like used for the maths component for select entry. So for future reference, try some chapters of the specialist book as it can help for numerical reasoning (not all of course, since there is like calculus lmao studied that and was just a waste).

Wow, i would like to learn specialist math at year 9 or year 10 as well🤩. Where can I get a book for that🧐?
By the way, 111 you are a true geek for math and science, you’ll pass the interview no doubt
I have real trouble doing the VCE specialist problems from previous years. I learned something like basic calculus and some partial fraction decomposition. But until now, I don’t really understood calculus!

Mate PLS, I rlly don't think that I will get in bcos  I stammer when i speak every 5 seconds no joke! I've tried to speak slowly but that NEVER works and I never seem to calm myself down.  If that is not all, I am an extreme introvert, and during my mock interviews (i'm not doing anymore), I didn't speak up at ALL. It was so sad, and I got like so much feedback from it. So sad. I'll just have to cheer you guys on when you get in  :)

As for spesh, sure I will give you my specialist mathematics textbook. Do you want just units 1 and 2 (aka yr 11)  only or units 3 and 4 as well (yr12)? As for calculus, it is the study of the rate of change. You know gradient, think of differentiation and derivatives as finding the gradient of curves like a parabola or logarithm. As for integration think of it as the inverse. All you need to know for now is just using maxima and minima with calculus, finding normals and tangents and using derivative rules. That is all for yr 11. Units 3 and 4 will be when you learn trigonometry, logarithmic and other rules (like quotient, and etc.) for calculus.

Good job on learning partial fractions decomposition! Now I would suggest you learn another important component of spesh not covered in methods - complex numbers. Learn like argand diagrams, and just polar form graphing. You will understand when I give you the book after u tell me which ones u want. Mate DON'T do VCE specialist problems, I can't either, bcos they compose of the hardest topics, (I only finished the units 1 and 2 of specialist maths and that is only yr 11).  Again goes my blabbering ::)
