Should I do Spesh?

So I'm considering Spesh for VCE, and I'm not sure if its worth doing or not. My other subjects are probably gonna be bio, methods, eng, chem, and glopol/ uniextension. I go to MHS, and we had this Common Test where they gave us advice on what one we should do. I was recommended for methods and they said spesh would be doable for me, but  I just needed a third opinion.

Thanks

I think if you're willing to dedicate time to it you'll be fine. It can be a great challenge and extension in a subject that you might not be doing later on in further education. You can check out this post if you'd like some advice: https://chamomileandcolour.wordpress.com/2019/08/01/how-to-pick-your-subjects/.
Hope that helped!

Two important things to consider:

One: Do you want to do spesh? Do you think that you will enjoy it?

Two: Does spesh help you in achieving your career goals?

Hey!

Spesh can definitely be a challenge. I'd only recommend it if you truly enjoy maths. You'll need to put a fair amount of effort into the subject, which can be difficult if you genuinely don't like it. Any courses that Specialist is a prerequisite for would also accept Bio or Chem, so there shouldn't be any pressure to do it from that front (that being given, if you think you'd like to do a course such as engineering it may be useful).

Ultimately I would say that if you like maths and want to explore it deeper, consider doing Specialist. If not, you shouldn't lose too much from not doing it and choosing another subject.

Spesh is useful if you want to go into engineering or actuarial science. If you don't do it you'll need to do a subject like Calculus 1 during your first year of uni to make up for it. Also if you want to do a subject like Accelerated Maths you'll need at least a 37 or 38 in specialist raw. This is all in the context of unimelb.

This is a bit too general of a question so you might want to consider how much do you enjoy maths and how much time do you have to devote for maths.
