~42 in Methods?

Hi,

Sorry to make another one of these threads, but question on getting ~42 in methods:

If one was to be doing an exam set (exam 1 + exam 2) every week starting soon until exams, which leaves ~18 total exams (aaand there would be a few extra practice tests for SACs that i'd have to do + other methods homework).
What sort of marks would i be hoping to achieve in my first few exams? And what would i want to be progressing towards, and when?
-> approx percentage per exam 1 and 2 separately, yes i know that VCE is a ranking, but still it's good to have a rough guess from ze masters!!

Any info surrounding this is definitely helpful!
Since I think i'm wanting to start to aim higher then 'just pass as its 7th subject' due to having quite a high sac ranking without too much work >_> got lucky on last two sacs, worth total of 60% overall :)~ but still..

THANKS

A friend of mine got A+ for all GAs last year and got a 42. I assume they were mid-low range A+s

for exam 1, you would want to be getting 95% i would say (last year 15% of ppl got 90% or more, and only 9% of ppl get an A+), and for exam two, you should be aiming to get around 90% (last year, 10% of ppl got 87% or more on exam two)

info comes from the assesment reports from last year

exam 1: http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vcaa/vce/studies/mathematics/cas/assessreports/mmcas1_assessrep_09.pdf

exam 2: http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vcaa/vce/studies/mathematics/cas/assessreports/mmcas2_assessrep_09.pdf

If you start now, you should be fine, good luck :)

having said that, that is for VCAA exam only, do not expect to get those types of marks as easily on say a tsfx/neap exam.

ahh so you think when doing some of the other exams, i shouldn't be expecting as high as vcaa are easier?
what are the best exams to do aside from vcaa then?

It probably has more to do with tsfx and neap being retarded :P

In Further, I found the MAV and Heffernan papers pretty good.  I'm hoping it's the same for Methods.

Don't get too worried if you start out getting bad scores. The first exam set I did was VCAA 2006 and I performed, well, WAY below satisfactory. (~75%) ... So yeah.

But in the end I got 42 with 39/40 and 70.5/80.

how many prac exams did you do? were you averaging high'ish on your prac exams leading up to the exam?

My friend got a 44 with an A on exam 1 and an A+ on exam two. By that he must've got around 76/80 for exam 2. For exam one I think he lost about 5 marks.

The A+ cutoff for exam 1 is quite high, around 38/40. So you'll need at least 39 on that or above 70 on the 2nd exam

haha this is hypothetical, i still have heaps of methods homework to do since i missed classes when i thought i was dropping, but i went a bit ahead and so was considering trying a prac exam soon anyway ha ha.

what should aim for my first exam? since m@tty got 75% i may say that, but any other thoughts?

depends what exam... neap is probably the hardest so i wouldn't start there unless you want to see how good you really are
imo start with something easier to get used to the style of questions.
are you planning to mark them yourself with solutions? or getting your methods teacher to mark them.
if you mark, make sure you aren't biased... if your graph is slightly off, thats -1 dont cheat! hahah
