How are you scoring on practice exams so far?

Hey everyone!

I was wondering where you all are at in terms of scores? I'm currently hovering around the 36/40 for Exam 1 and 62/80 for Exam 2. My personal bests have been 37/40 and 63/80. I've done around 8 sets so far...

How about you?

I remember when I started doing methods practice exams I was getting between 34 and 38 on exam 1's and my first exam 2 was about 61, yeah.. it took a while but eventually (after LOTS more exam 1's) I got exam 1's up to 38-40 depending on silly mistakes only, and exam 2's were a longer improvement curve but I managed to eventually get those up to 75+ each time, again just silly mistakes. Hope you are getting the most from your mistakes/weak areas on each exam and continue to see improvement :)

Woah, really? I thought there was only so much you could improve on exam 2s after a certain amount of exams. Thats motivating as fuck

I'm doing better than my expectations right now yay!!

Average of 39.8/40 for the vcaa exam 1 from 2006-2010
And 79/80 average for exam 2s

Apart from 39 and 77 for 2007 I think I'm doing pretty well for the rest XD
So excited for exams

Hopefully I don't drop one mark on the exams from 2011-14 but I heard 2013 exam 2 was quite hard

Wow! Those scores are amazing. Today I beat my personal best (70/80 Heffernan 2007). Nothing spectacular as it was a Heffernan, but I'm pretty happy with that. I can't believe I went from 40/80 to 70/80 in like 8 exams. I struggled with those VCAA papers (roughly 50/80) so I guess I still have heaps of work to do...

Great work!

Hey Orson,

I honestly don't want to destroy your self-esteem here, but do not place your confidence on Heffernan exams. The first heff exam I did, I got 78/80. Im saying this because after getting this I thought I had it in the bag, haha, good try bro (to myself xD). Heff exams are nothing compared to VCAA ones and other companies, for example, my first VCAA (2007) I got 56/80, so clearly there was a big difference between the heff exam and this. I am just saying this so you don't fall into the trap :)

I reckon this is up for debate. I often did better in VCAA exams than Heff exams. I also remember really struggling with Kilbaha, and so wanted to do more as I'd finally found a good difficulty to play with - when I asked the methods teacher, though, she said that she didn't get more because she thought they were too easy.

I reckon a lot of company stuff it kinda depends on where your strengths are and what they chose to place emphasis on.

Hey Orson,

Don't worry about that...It's all about the exam! I'm aware that Heffernan is easier than the exam, but it kinda gave me a confidence boost lol. Yeah, I found VCAA 2007 pretty hard. So as I said, I still have HEAPS of work to do. Thanks! What other papers would be at the VCAA level?

I've found insight to be pretty accurate, maybe a little easier than vcaa. However, they seem to be a bit repetitive (especially the multi choice section) from year to year, so don't do them all one after the other

Well thats good for you, isn't it? I am just informing Orson, my good mate..

I honestly think the exam 1 for insight are relatively simple, but the exam 2s for recent years are incredibly hard, like, seriously..

Which years specifically? I've done 2014 backwards to 2010 (exam 2) and they seem to be a reasonably good level IMHO, no crazy bs questions that you might find on other commercial papers

Damn, brutal.

I think it really depends on the years
I was talking with one of the teachers on the examination panel for specialist maths and they never thought that last year was an 'easy' paper, but needing 147/160 for an A+ says otherwise.

Different areas of study are harder/easier for different people I reckon

Has anyone done the 2014 exam 1 for Neap? If so, mind sharing your results? Cheers xD
