Title: Slow&Steady's Interim Aspirations
Post by: SlowandSteady on July 18, 2019, 11:25:21 pm
I have this amazing power to think of things to do and routines to get into that will benefit me in the future and then miraculously convince myself that I really don't need to do them. Hopefully, this thread will act as a kryptonite of sorts to my impractical ability during Semester 2.

Things I should do and the reasons why (In case I try to change my mind):
Get at least 8 hours of sleep (Bed at 1/4 to 10 and rise at 1/4 to 6 on a good day) - Doing this just allows me to have a more relaxed morning and allows time for homework and a substantial breakfast.

30 minutes of piano practice a night - Just started taking lessons a couple weeks ago because I've always been messing around on a keyboard and decided it was time to learn properly. My goal is to be able to join the band in Year 9 next year without sounding like a toddler throwing a highly audible tantrum on the keys.

Complete two crosswords a night - Got a crossword book in hopes of further expanding my vocabulary, which will undoubtedly help in English. My Grandma is pretty much a talking, semi-walking thesaurus, but one day I shall overtake her as the crossword sensei (mwahaha).

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for liquorice of the chocolate-coated variety – But more generally, lollies or chocolates of any kind. I can hear my teeth’s pleading, anguished screams whenever I chew sweets, so, like the generous person I am, I’ll attempt to show them mercy.

Summarise content of classes after each school day – Doing so will hopefully assist in consolidating those rad knowledgez (but more importantly, scrambling to cram for exams). Will probably need to do it in a word document rather than handwriting so I can begin to comprehend what I’m looking at.

Help out around the house more often – Just upping the general chores like sweeping, dishes, dog walking etc. Gotta show some mad respect to the old man.

Semester Goal: Get Str8 A's - If not for some idiotic mistakes on the exam for HPE (a.k.a the bane of my existence), I would have achieved this last semester. At least I know, with a little more work and less procrastination (lord save me), I'm capable of reaching this goal.

Hopefully I'll be able to report on my progress (or lack thereof) daily, starting tomorrow. Peace out

It's excellent that you're aiming to get your act together in Year 8. Just don't stress about getting straight A's. Make the use of the next 7 or so months to experiment with nearly everything you can to see what works the best. You don't want to judge your progress on marks (as obscene as this may sound to you, any grade you get on your test doesn't really tell you where you're at). Even if someone gets straight As in Yrs 7-10, it doesn't mean they're perfect and let's be real here, no one is.

Best of luck, I didn't have such desire, yet the bravery to face my wrongdoings in Year 8.

Haha, yeah, I guess I did sort of convey that marks were the be all and end all. I don't associate grades with any form of self-worth, but rather with how much effort I put in throughout the semester. Achieving that would mean that I've done the best that I can do; I'd be more proud of that fact than the letter grade.

Make the use of the next 7 or so months to experiment with nearly everything you can to see what works the best.
I'll be sure to :). Thanks for the encouraging words!

19/07, Day 1

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - Knocked off at around 11:30 last night to wake at 7:30. 8 hours, sure, but I was rushing out the door with toast in my mouth. Need to get to bed earlier to avoid mass morning hysteria.

30 minutes of piano practice a night - Check. Might upload one of my masterpieces later on.

Complete two crosswords a night - Yikes, I've found these crosswords to be more challenging than expected. I'll switch from the crossword book to online ones so that I may change the difficulty and work my way up (not technically cheating, but cutting it pretty damn close).

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets  – The day after I start this thread someone went shopping and there was a full packet of Tim Tams in the fridge. The amount of self-restraint I exerted to stop myself from having one was... unimaginable.

Revise content of classes after each school day – Added all wild manner of Spanish words to my little glossary. Also attempted to explain the process of subduction and hotspots to my Dad for geography.

Help out around the house more often – Walked & fed the dawg, helped cook dinner and did a load of dishes. Old man approves.

SlowandSteady, signing off.

20/07, Day 2

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - I had 8 hours sleep to wake up at 7... then two more because it was so freezing that getting out of bed would ensure nothing but frostbite.

30 minutes of piano practice - Tick. Turned into 45mins because I couldn't hear my timer go off. I'm Exceeding my limits.

Complete two crosswords a night - (https://i.imgur.com/vxgLUY3.png)  I feel so accomplished ;D.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets  – Filled the void with raisin toast and decaffeinated coffee.

Revise content of classes after each school day – Completed some Spanish and Science questions online. Finished maths HW for Monday.

Help out around the house more often (:() – Did a load of dishes but neglected to give the dog his walkies. I think he was angry with me; he seemed pretty depressed.

Chuffed that the Lions won the footy tonight. I need to pick up some slack with Neddy (the pupper) and do a full-on clean of my room tomorrow.

21/07, Day 3

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - Slept at Midnight and got up at 9. :-\

30 minutes of piano practice (:() - Lost the desire to do the full 30 part way through. Imo, I'd prefer if my teacher gave me a bit more work to do, as my lessons are weekly which leaves a lot of time to complete it.

Complete two crosswords a night - Victory

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets  – Didn't really feel the need to have any, so that's a good sign.

Revise content of classes – Didn't get as much done as I would have liked, but I read over some stuff for Geography that had been confusing me for a bit and I have the hang of it now :).

Help out around the house more often – Did some dishes, a load of washing and I took Ned out for a walk. Afterwards, he had a play out in the backyard, which tuckered him out.

Vacuumed my room but my desk is still in shambles, so I'll tidy that up in the morning.

When you practice piano what do you mostly focus on?

Out of curiosity, do you mind sharing what was confusing you in geo? It's always interesting to see what's more/less familiar to different people

Seems like you're generally pretty good at getting 8 hours and it's more the timing that you struggle with. I'm not sure if you've already got a particular strategy you use, but I find it useful to use an automatic blue light filter (reminds me it's getting to night time as well as reducing the production of stay-awake-chemicals) and try shifts of roughly half an hour at a time.

Good luck with your goals! :)

Thanks for taking an interest :). The most recent work I've been set was to transpose a C Major chord progression to G Major, practice some scales (Only three so far) and practising some songs with correct phrasing & dynamics. The most difficult thing I've encountered is reading the music rather than playing it.

With Geo, I just needed to clear some things up about the process of subduction and island arc formation. I mean, I knew what happened, but had trouble understanding why.

I actually use a blue light filter! The effects of it aren't really that noticeable, but they're there, so that'd be helping.
Thanks for the advice (and reminding me that I need to practise piano).

No worries at all!

Nice. When I did music in high school (saxophone rather than piano) I found it difficult to motivate myself to learn my scales so definitely no judgement from me. We never covered those topics when I was in highschool so it's interesting to see that it's a part of your curriculumn at all - thanks for sharing :)

Yeah I find for me that I have to increase the filtering above the default settings because otherwise it doesn't seem like much difference. Hopefully the help is more noticeable in future.

As far as I know, there's one piano per band (3 band levels: equivalent to easy, intermediate & advanced) at my school's music program and they're all filled, so I'm not actually sure what the deal is if I want to join as a piano player next year (maybe I was too late).

22/07, Day 4

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:30PM - 6:30AM :) Getting there

30 minutes of piano practice - Check

Complete two crosswords a night (:-\) - Nope. I'm not really sure if completing crosswords has been bolstering my vocabulary as much as I'd hoped. I'll read books instead; feels like less of a chore and my local library has truckloads of them.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets  – It just seems to run like clockwork when you don't have any and can't purchase any.

Revise content of classes – Completed some Spanish Q's. Leaving my math's hw for the morning.

Help out around the house more often – Took Ned for a walk and did some dishes.

Going to do some browsing for books that look like an interesting read.
later skaters.

23/07, Day 5

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:30PM--6:06AM. Got a bit side-tracked looking for books.

30 minutes of piano practice - Watched a video on sight-reading notes and did some practise songs.

Do some reading 8) - I'm not really much of a recreational reader at the moment, so I looked at some reviews/recommendations and thought that Tomorrow, When the War Began would be a good place to start. Getting through some of that now.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Check.

Revise content of classes – Check.

Help out around the house more often (:() – Came home with a pounding headache and just didn't feel like doing anything, but I was let off because of the work I'd been doing earlier.

I've read that book. If you like romance books then I think you'll like it.

Be warned: it doesn't have a happy ending.

Yikes. Well, it's one in a series, so I'll just let my naive little brain think that there could be one.

24/07, Day 6

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:15PM - 6:34AM

30 minutes of piano practice - My lesson was today, which went for an hour. A fair bit of time was spent going over the work my teacher set me so I think that could count as revision.

Do some reading 8) - Read a few more chapters. I wish I had the hard copy book, but I'm too lazy to borrow it from the library.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Check.

Revise content of classes – Read over my Humanities notes, brainstormed words for my English glossary and did some Spanish questions online.

Help out around the house more often – Dog walk & dishes, the classic combination.

Starting my maths assignment tomorrow and I'm praying that I don't leave it until the last minute again.
Hasta luego.

25/07, Day 7

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10ishPM (Can't remember ::))- 6:32AM

30 minutes of piano practice - Practiced some chord progressions & attempted some of next week's songs.

Do some reading 8) - Read 4 more chapters.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets (:() – Dad came home with a bag of liquorice... I'd be betraying him if I didn't have some... Right...?

Revise content of classes – Not so much 'revising', but completed english & hums homework due tomorrow and worked a bit on my maths assignment.

Help out around the house more often – Gave Ned an exercise in the yard with his teddy/prey.

I feel like I could get a lot more done if I just used my time better. When I have responsibilities, I tend to defer them to the last second before doing anything productive. I really need to give this habit a good old kick in the pants.

26/07, Day 8

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:30PM-7AM

30 minutes of piano practice (:() - Nope.

Do some reading 8) - Read a bit more.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets (:() – No sweets at all... (proceeds to curl up in bed with a box of Shapes)

Revise content of classes – Did heaps of Spanish questions because I was bored. Nothing else, though.

Help out around the house more often (:() – Nope.
It's Friday night. I didn't need to do anything. I didn't feel like doing anything. I didn't do anything. I need some sleep. Time to resort to the much-loved mentality of "I'll try hard tomorrow".

27/07, Day 9

Get at least 8 hours of sleep (???) - Midnightish-9AM

30 minutes of piano practice - Yep.

Do some reading 8) - Planned to read for half an hour but it ended up being an hour because things were getting intense :o.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Nothing today (unless you count the scoop of ice-cream I put in my banana milkshake :P).

Revise content of classes - Added 16 words to describe teenagers to my English Glossary, one of which being rambunctious. Made some flashcards on Quizlet with terms and definitions for humanities. Also smashed out a few Spanish Q's.

Help out around the house more often – Did the laundry and didn't really need to do anything else. I woke up late to find that the dog had already been walked.

I feel that today was actually really cool! I actually got more done than I was planning to. Feeling sleepy so I'll doze off at a good time (way better than midnight :o).

28/07, Day 10

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 11:30PM-9AM

30 minutes of piano practice - Couldn't be bothered.

Do some reading 8) - Finished my book so I'm waiting to reserve the next one.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Made brownies today. I need not say more.

Revise content of classes - There was no set homework and I just couldn't muster up enough willpower to do anything that wasn't needed.

Help out around the house more often – Exercised the dog.

Pretty much just took a break and read most of the day. Not ashamed of the fact that I spent the majority of the day in my pajamas, but damn, I need some hobbies that get me out and about :P.

29/07, Day 11

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:30PM-6:30AM

30 minutes of piano practice - Yep. Pretty much have all the songs for next lesson down pat.

Do some reading 8) - The wait for this book is agonising. I might have to order the next one in the series, read the eBook of the second one and hope by the time I'm done it's available for hard copy.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Check

Revise content of classes - Worked a bit on my maths assignment. Going to get some more done tomorrow morning.

Help out around the house more often – Gave Ned a run in the backyard with the tennis ball.

30/07, Day 12

Get at least 8 hours of sleep (:() - 11:30PM-7:30AM. Really bad. Need to go to sleep around now if I want to get consistent with timing.

30 minutes of piano practice - Check. Ready for tomorrow's lesson.

Do some reading 8) - Dang it, I'll borrow the eBook tomorrow. Just realised that there are already THREE holds on the book I want before mine, so there's no chance I'll be getting it anytime soon.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Yep.

Revise content of classes - Went to the library after school and got a huge chunk of my maths assignment finished. On track to complete it early.

Help out around the house more often – Did a load of washing, some dishes and cleaned my room.

31/07, Day 13

Get at least 8 hours of sleep (:() - 11PM-7:10AM. Slowly getting better.

30 minutes of piano practice - Had the lesson on today

Do some reading 8) - Read about 4 chapters.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Tick.

Revise content of classes - Did some spanish content to try and make a speech for the languages competition (nothing I need for it has been taught yet ???).

Help out around the house more often – Put off walking the dog until later in the afternoon, so I came home slapping mosquito bites like a lunatic.

01/08 (woo), Day 14

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:45PM-6:50AM. Really need to take charge of maintaining more positive sleep patterns. The seconds just seem to tick away so much faster when watching Youtube, so I've blocked it.

30 minutes of piano practice - Nope.

Do some reading 8) - Read 2 chapters

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Check.

Revise content of classes - Nah.

Help out around the house more often – Did 2 loads of laundry and nothing else.

I came home exhausted, flopped on my bed and decided not to get up. I have to work on really getting consistent with chores and revision by setting myself more specific tasks (I'll make to-do lists, I guess). I REALLY should work on sleep by just finishing what I need to do earlier, so I can get off the computer around half an hour before bed.
Title: Re: Slow&Steady's Interim Aspirations

02/08, Day 15

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 11:50PM-7:40AM. Getting up really late, I still decided to have a good breakfast. Ended up gassing it on my bike for 3kms faster than I ever had before as a result of that. It was 8:50. Bell rang at 8:55. Roll marked some point near then. I made it in time and I was pretty chuffed with myself setting a personal record.

30 minutes of piano practice - Yep. Had to make a really simple composition and learn the blues scale. Also started doing chord inversions so that's cool (gone are the days where I have to move my hand way too far to reach a chord 8)).

Do some reading 8) - Just can't squeeze enough time in to read atm if I want to get to bet at 10:30. Definitely get onto that one tomorrow.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Check.

Revise content of classes - Made a list of words / phrases I needed to practice for Spanish. Started working on a bibliography for English sources on teenage brain development.

Help out around the house more often – Playtime with the dog was tragically cut short as a result of the tennis ball going over the fence. Also did the dishes which I let pile up way too far.

It's time to hit the sack.

03/08, Day 16

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:30PM-9:00AM. On the weekend, there's just no sense of urgency to get up early. Getting to sleep after this post and setting an alarm for 6. Hopefully I'll have enough willpower in the morning to roll my self out of bed and into a shower so I can stay awake.

30 minutes of piano practice - Check. Did some improvisation with the blues scale which was fun. Practised some more chord inversions so now it's way easier to focus on my right hand while playing. Afterwards I just messed around with the instrument settings (Tenor Sax. & Overdrive Guitar are my favs <3).

Do some reading 8) - Did a HEAP of reading today and I'm about two thirds into my book..

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – I was at the corner store and saw a small bag of my favourite chocolates. Take a wild guess at what happened ;).

Revise content of classes - Found links between my research and the show we had to watch for English. Added definitions / methods to my Geography flashcards.

Help out around the house more often – All I managed was a load of washing up. I need to pick up some slack.

I've got tomorrow all planned out and I'm going to have a super productive day. Hell yeah.

I've got I had tomorrow all planned out and I'm I was going to have a super productive day. Hell yeah naw.
04/08, Day 17
You see, the thing that slipped my mind was that the Lions were having a home match, so I had to get on a train at about 2PM (before I got anything done) so I could make it. Had a great time (carn the Lions), but I sort of regret wasting my early morning.

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:20PM-6:30AM. Pretty happy with this, although I'll need to sleep in a bit more tomorrow to get adequate snooze.

30 minutes of piano practice - Nope

Do some reading 8) - Spent the majority of the morning in bed reading and I finished off my book. Hurrah for literature and its ability to transform me into a hermit for a number of hours.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Footy food. Or at least popping into the Coles next to the ground to get footy food. Either way, it wasn't the most nutritious stuff.

Revise content of classes - No. See what I did there: I said no in Spanish. That will be all the schoolwork I've completed today.

Help out around the house more often – Walked the dog early in the morning.

05/08, Day 18

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 11:00PM-7AM.

30 minutes of piano practice -Did about 15 then just started to mess around.

Do some reading 8) - 3 chapters of the third book in the series  (I'm well and truly hooked :)))

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Yep.

Revise content of classes - Went to the library to work on my Spanish speech and ended up finishing it, so I'm happy.

Help out around the house more often – Got home at around 5PM so there was no time to walk the dog, but I did a load of dishes.

06/08, Day 19

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:40 - 7AM. Actually woke up a bit earlier, but my bed, in all its coziness, decided to keep me hostage for another half-hour.

30 minutes of piano practice - Yep. Learn't the song for tomorrow's lesson, did some improvisation with the blues scale (funky) and went through all the basics (scales, actually being able to read the music, etc.)

Do some reading 8) - Got a fair chunk done today. I'm giddy because I found a gold mine of hard-copy books from the same series at school, so that means less screen-time :)

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – I had a single chocolate button. Arrest me.

Revise content of classes - None tonight, but I'll update this with the work I complete early in the morning tomorrow.

Help out around the house more often – My thoughts regarding walking the dog: "I'll walk Ned today" ==> "My shoes are already off; I'll just exercise him in the yard later" ==> "It's 10PM. Why am I like this". I GUARANTEE that I'll walk him tomorrow and do a load of dishes.

Edit: Finished transferring maths assignment entirely to digital copy, worked on the report a bit more and wrote two topic sentences for my persuasive. The mornings are so much better.

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:15PM-6AM

30 minutes of piano practice - Half an hours practise before the lesson today.

Do some reading 8) - Managed to read 11 chapters.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Check.

Revise content of classes - Going to complete tasks in the morning from now on.

Help out around the house more often – Took the dog for a walk as soon as I got home. Afterwards I did a load of dishes in time for my piano lesson.

I'm going to shift to completing work in the mornings only from now on. Now I don't have to feel bad for not doing stuff at night and approach tasks with a clear head and plenty of sleep :)

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:05PM-5:50AM. Unfortunately not 8 hours, but I needed about ten minutes to wake up, anyway :P

30 minutes of piano practice - Didn't get around to it.

Do some reading 8) Onto the fourth book now, and they had a hard-copy at the local library :D Read 5 chapters tonight.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – As of right now, yes. When I make a milo right after this post, no.

Revise content of classes - I really did try to do my maths this morning, as it's due tomorrow, but I instead ended up laying in bed for an hour and a half finishing off my book. Going to bed super early so I'm ready at 5AM with no distractions excepting the screech of birds in the morning.

Help out around the house more often – Tossed a rubber footy with Ned until he was puffed. Put away previous dishes and did the next load.

09/08, Day 22
Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 8:50PM-4:50AM. Needed to wake up to finish my maths report.

30 minutes of piano practice - Practised some scales and that's all. Want to get to sleep around now, so it'll have to wait until morning.

Do some reading 8) Read about 4 chapters when I got home.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Had a piece of cake from my brother's birthday.

Revise content of classes - Stayed after school for about 20 minutes to get my report done and hand it in before my maths teacher went home. It's funny how for a week I had no idea what to do for the report, but in those 20 minutes I knew exactly what I needed to write and finished what would take me an hour otherwise. Pressure works. Reading over my Spanish speech before bed because it's supposed to help with memory retention or something.

Help out around the house more often – Did the dishes. That's all.

Feeling pretty fantastic today after handing my work in.
Goals for tomorrow:
- Complete Science rationale
- Practise Spanish speech for 30mins
- Revise Geography notes and improve / add to flashcards
- Clean my room

That's all for now. :)

What's it like waking up that early? I don't think I'd ever have the ability to willingly wake up that early. Snoozing is just too tempting ;D

Even though I get 8 hours either way when waking up that early, it still takes a splash of cold water and a shower to be able to function. It's nice and quiet, though. Early mornings I feel like the hours ahead are specifically designated to doing work, because there really isn't much else to do when nobody's awake.

10/08, Day 23
First of all, what did I manage to do?
Goals for today:
- Complete Science rationale - Worked on it for a little bit but it's far from being done.
- Practise Spanish speech for 30mins - Did this with no problems. Slowly moving to remembering it without prompts, but not yet.
- Revise Geography notes and improve / add to flashcards - I have no reason for why I didn't do this, other than simply not feeling like it.
- Clean my room - Done. Straightened up my desk and did a vacuum.

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 10:30PM-6:45AM.

30 minutes of piano practice - Yep. Found it funny that the chords I needed to practise fit in with the Wii Sports theme surprisingly well.

Do some reading 8) Read about 2 chapters, but really it's not enough.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – None today :)

Revise content of classes - Didn't do alot other than the stuff already mentioned.

Help out around the house more often – Exercised the dog.

I was pretty stuffed today and treated it as a break for the most part. I'll see what I can do tomorrow, because right now sleep is #1 on my to-do list for tonight.

11/08, Day 24

Get at least 8 hours of sleep - 11:15PM-9AM. As Bri mentioned, my problem is with the timing, not the duration. I'll be changing this one to getting to sleep before 9PM.

30 minutes of piano practice - Check.

Do some reading 8) spent about 40mins reading.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Check

Revise content of classes - Went through mistakes of Geo practise exam. Changed from flashcards to a Word document with definitions. I'm going to read my Spanish speech out a couple times before bed.

Help out around the house more often – Exercised the dog, but when he came inside he was limping a bit on his right hind leg. I'll need to give him a bit of a rest until he gets better.

12/08, Day 25

Get to sleep before 9PM - Unfortunately I nodded off at around 9:30. Got up at around 6:30. I'll be putting my head to the pillow right after this post, so I'm in before the bell.

30 minutes of piano practice - Yep.

Do some reading 8) Darn, I didn't get any time to.

Defeat my seemingly insatiable lust for the sweets – Certainly.

Revise content of classes - Practicing my speech was pretty much all I could manage tonight. Going to hopefully finish my science rationale tomorrow morning.

Help out around the house more often – Nope (-_-).

How've you been going with this?
This week was just busy and I couldn't get around to updating this, let alone completing the goals I've set. Doing some recreational reading or practicing the piano really doesn't appeal to me when I have impending due dates and exams I need to study for. I need to learn to prioritise more, so I'll be picking this back up on Monday with daily to-do lists as opposed to a routine which can be rather restrictive in some cases.

So I've switched from routines to to-do lists. Hopefully this'll allow me to prioritise more pressing tasks.
19/08
In order of importance,

If Time:
I'll see how I go!

19/08
In order of importance,
  • Complete English Draft (If not, finish at least 2 body paragraphs + conclusion)
  • Edit Science Rationale
  • Complete Science Risk Assessment and Modifications
  • Work on Ecuador PowerPoint for Spanish
  • Do one load of dishes

If Time:
  • Practice Piano (20mins)
  • Take the Dog for a Walk OR Exercise him in the yard
I'll see how I go!

How do you find writing rationales? I'm pretty sure this year's graduating class used the introduction-style of writing reports instead so I'm curious about if you have any thoughts on that transition.

I'd love to be able to comment, but I'm not apart of this year's graduating class 👶🏼, making it difficult to form an opinion. I haven't really noticed any change in structure when writing a report, but that's just my Year 8 ignorance :P One day, though, there will be a time when I can understand a word of what anyone says on this forum.

19/08
In order of importance,
Complete English Draft (If not, finish at least 2 body paragraphs + conclusion) :( Completed two body paragraphs only, but I'll try and do some in the morning.
Edit Science Rationale: Only need to chuck in a diagram and I'll be sweet.
Complete Science Risk Assessment and Modifications :( Completed the risk assessment, but haven't started the modifications as of yet.
Work on Ecuador PowerPoint for Spanish :( Nope, but I'll have plenty of time for that tomorrow during the lesson.
Do one load of dishes: My brother did them instead :P.

Didn't manage to practice piano or exercise the dog. I'll update with my next list tomorrow morning because I'm falling asleep.

Edit: setting realistic goals for the amount of time left in my night rn.
Today:
Finish body paragraph & conclusion for English

This is probably all I manage for tonight, but it'll take a lot of pressure off ;D

Ahh I wasn't sure if you might've been taught the old way last year but it's good to know that they've kept it consistent for you.

By the time you get to QCE I'm sure you'll be super prepared!

(grr ;))
I sort of forgot about this thread because I kept on setting goals that just wouldn't happen. I ended up leaving my English and Science the nights they were due and didn't get a lot of sleep. I'm finally on holidays, though, and I've been reading To Kill a Mockingbird, which has been fun. I won't have many opportunities to practice piano because my keyboard's back in Queensland (so is my dog :'(). My teacher needs me to learn a grade 3 piece that I'm finding really difficult, so I hope it'll be up to scratch by the time I need to audition for the school band. When I get back, a chore roster will be implemented so that there'll be no more (or, at least, a lot less) chore dodging.

I'm working on my speech for head prefect in case my application gets shortlisted and I'll be working on a group project for the stem cup competition, as well, but other than that, I'll just be relaxing these holidays. Once they end, I'll make an effort to hand in my schoolwork earlier.

Are you reading it for school or for fun? ;D

That should be helpful, or restricting. What do you think?

That's so exciting! When do you find out if you're shortlisted?
