Need help with subject selection fast!

Hey people :),
I'm in a bit of trouble right now with subject selection. So when it came time to choose our subjects for Year 11, I chose English Language and Specialist Maths. However, I was told less than a week ago that I will not be able to do both because they run at the same time and my school only has 1 class for both subjects, so that does't help. I'm not 100% sure what I want to do when I'm older, hence why I'm so much trouble choosing. I'm wasn't bad at Year 10 English (got around 85-98% on SACs) and I did General Maths 1&2 this year constantly got A+. I also talked to the Specialist Maths teacher and she said that she could provide me with the Specialist 1&2 work and help me through it and then I could possibly pick up 3&4 in Year 12.

So I guess my options now are if I want to not do English Language and do English Expression (which I don't really want to do) or do I not do Specialist and do Further 3&4 (which I don't really want to do either)?

I apologise for how long this is, but I'd love to hear anyone's' opinions.

Hey, welcome to the forums! Sorry to hear about your situation - that sucks.

I did English Language but not Specialist Maths. My understanding is it would be easier to pick up EngLang 3&4 than Spesh 3&4 (not basing this on much apart from intuition, but I think the foundation you'd get in Spesh 3&4 would be more important). In English Language, there isn't heaps of overlap between the two, and you could probably cover most of the important stuff for Year 12 (largely metalanguage) in your own time. You can see my overview for English Language 1&2 here, and my overview for English Language 3&4 here.

This is just one thing you might like to consider; I'm sure others will have great input, too. :)

Welcome thamadee!

I had a lot of trouble with my subject selection so I understand your predicament! What do you think of doing EngLang and Methods? If you are capable of Specialist I understand your comment about not wanting to do Further... I know some people at our school dropped out of Methods and still found Further too easy! I am just presuming that if your school offers Specialist then Methods will be an option ???

Also... will your school allow you do to OAC or DECV etc? That provides flexibility and offers both those subjects?!
ATB with your decision... I hope it all works out in your favour!

P.S. let us know what you end up with!
