Year 11 subject selection

I'm choosing my subjects for year 11 soon, but I am struggling to know what's right for me. I will be doing units 1/2 of english, religion and society (have to do re at my school), chemistry, biology and maths methods. Now I'm deciding between either Italian 1/2, Specialist Maths 1/2, Further 3/4 or maybe another 3/4. I know it would be good to do a 3/4 in year 11 but I'm am worried that I am going to miss content without doing 1/2. I am an above average student, however I don't want to drain myself during VCE. Would it be better to do a 3/4, spesh or italian?

What 3/4 were you thinking of doing? A lot of them can be done without the 1/2...

Personally, I wish I had done a language, and I think that Spesh is really only a subject to do if you really like maths or you need it as a pre-req; So yeah, Kinda biased towards saying do Italian, but I also support doing a 3/4 in Yr 11... :D

Probably further 3/4. I quite enjoy maths and I'm good at it which was why I was considering spesh.

Well, at this point I'm still trying to keep my options open, but I am hoping to get into medicine.

Yeah ok. Well, it might be worth considering the "Guide to doing all three maths" that AN has. I'll link to it in a minute.. :D

Also... A good Med thread.. :D

You’re not going to have any problems skipping straight into further 3/4 if you enjoy/are good at maths. It’s mostly the same as 1/2, just a bit more complicated. The only thing hat might trip you a bit is matrices if you haven’t seen them before because there’s some new rules you have to learn.
You might actually find it too easy/boring if you’re good at maths though.

The only other one of your subjects that I think you could skip the 1/2 for would be bio, although it would be harder than skipping 1/2 general. If you have a bit of general knowledge about cells and photosynthesis/cellular respiration then you’d be able to do it though.

I was in the exact same boat as you literally a couple of weeks ago- I wanted to do both Methods 3/4 and Further 3/4, although, I spoke to a couple of people I know who did two 3/4's in year 11 and what they told me was this: You will probably dedicate the majority of your time to your 3/4's.
I don't that is true all the time, but that is something you need to consider- how much time are you really willing to spend studying for two year 12 subjects? Don't forget you still have your year 11 ones! :)  (I didn't end up choosing Further as I want to focus more on Methods next year).

My sister actually did Further 3/4 without the 1/2 last year and did incredibly well, so there is no need to stress!

In terms of other subjects, I'm doing Italian as well. If you really enjoy it, then I don't see why not. Even Specialist is a good option. Also consider that if you do a language you are eligible for the VCE Baccalaureate, which apparently universities look at favorably when selecting students.

Good luck!   :) :) :D :D ;D 8)

UPDATE Pretty much, my school isn't offering units 1/2 of history, and I was offered further 3/4 instead - so now I'm doing two 3/4's!  What did you end up choosing in the end? :)
