As we move toward subject selection time, what subjects are you thinking of studying in Year 11/12? ;D

ANers older than Year 10 - feel free to vote with the subjects you studied, too! Let's get a representation of the most popular subjects on ATAR Notes.

For Year 10s, make sure you check out our VCE subjects reviews and ratings thread if you want some more insight on what VCE subjects are actually like!

I studied units 1&2 of Outdoor Ed and would've studied 3&4 if there weren't timetable issues

I'm seeing a lot of variety in maths, is there anyone not taking a math subject? taking multiple? What are your motivations?

English Language as a preference to English is also very interesting!

So, let's say we take the six most popular subjects from this poll so far. The collective set of VCE subjects would be:

* Maths Methods
* Biology
* Chemistry
* English Language
* English
* Physics

Very interesting! I wonder if anybody is looking at doing this exact set of subjects haha.

Swap out English for psychology and that was my vce

Interesting that no one is doing media, as that was a popular subject at my highschool

I wonder if there's anyone on the opposite end of the spectrum not studying any of those subjects.

Does anyone feel like subject popularity influenced their choices?

Influenced my choices to a large extent, even with my humanities subjects, I chose the most popular ones. I think that there are far more resources in popular subjects compared to others, which is especially useful in cases where your teacher isn't great or you are struggling. In subjects with big cohorts, the student sample was also less unpredictable and skewed. Obviously, interests and relevance to future studies should come first, but popular subjects seemed safer.

Media was also very popular in my first high school (they had two classes) and the median score for the subject was ~39. The teacher for the subject wrote the textbooks and is an accessor. I always wondered whether I would have chosen the subject had I stayed in the school (although I didn't have the same interest in screenwriting and filmmaking back then).
