Nemo's home run

Hi guys !
i have recently been into reading some vce journals so i decided to make my own... little bit late on the train but oh well :)
my name is nemo, i am in y12. i completed biology last year and i got 45+
i have dreamed of doing med since i was 3, so i recently completed the ucat and got around 85th percentile ( i qualify for rural so im hoping this is enough)
i will go into my subjects...

chemistry
oh i love this subject! it is so interesting and i find that i get my best results in this subject! i have found it super easy last year, and although it is slightly harder this year, the content is superrr interesting and i love how it blends maths and science so seamlessly. equilibrium and yield was probs my fav, but i am enjoying organic too. currently studying for my unit 4 aos1 sac, which is early next week (and online :()

methods
mixed feelings. also have a sac for this one next week, i have been doing good on the practices. for some reason i find methods assessments much harder than spesh. idk if its cause spesh is more straightforward (the content is much harder) tho). i hate the weird find the values of k for ... questions so much, but im gradually getting there. it is easier than it was for me at the start of the year, but i still need to put the work in to get the results i want. confused as to how to study for it tho?? idk how to get better at the application qs...

spesh
always behind in this subject, algebra superrrrr stressful, however, once i study, one of my best subjects?!! i do rlly well on sacs (surprisingly) but i do have to put a lot of work in. we get sm hw tho and i find that im always behind :(

english language
enjoying this subject! just finished a sac on varities of aus english, and, as an immigrant, i find it super fascinating. ac writing was rlly hard for me, but im gradually getting better. not much else to say on this.

french
lmao idk whats going on. wild subject, no content, all skill based, trying to work on becoming fluent i guess?? (does watching youtube w french subtitles count?)

general
online school is tiring, i miss my friends. depressed knowing formal, 18ths cancelled. i am also worried about end of year but ik we are all in the same boat. motivation is dwindling.. hoping this account keeps me accountable.
also, sorry if this is short, i legit made an account to make this post :) so i am not experienced...

Hi nice to meet you Nemo! We are almost doing exactly the same subjects which is cool (except I just do normal english). I also feel very similar to you about chemistry, methods (and french - I mean what even happens in this subject!)

Do you have any hobbies, sports or interests outside of school?

also, sorry if this is short, i legit made an account to make this post :) so i am not experienced...
Haha don't apologise it's your journal so entries can be as short or as long as you like. Also welcome to AN as an official user now!  8)

Hello Nemo! Nice to meet you!  ;D

Congratulations on your bio score from last year!  8)

Same! I loved equilibrium and rates of reactions and it was pretty interesting to delve deeper into the content as well but organic chem on the other hand...

Definitely not the best at Methods but I found that doing heaps of practice questions helped with this. Even taking my time doing the questions to establish the correct thought processes really helped with tackling those harder questions.

Wow, teach me your ways! But yeah I totally get having a lot of work to do because we go through so many exercises a week, and they just keep building up, while I slowly work through them.

I can't wait to follow you on the rest of your journey! Excited for the next update!  8)

Hi guys !
Felt like I should update w what’s being going on.
Ok: hear me out, online school has been killing me. I have lost all motivation and I find it hard to even study for 2 hours a day! Which is horrific! idk if this is to do w burn out (I just had practice exams and 2 sacs) but i rlly don’t know what to do, as someone who always puts their all into studying! I am so tired all the time and I don’t know what to do about it tbh. I think it’s time I incorporate some exercise into my daily routine...0For the ucat, I used to get up early and do a few hours of revision before school so I’m wondering if I should do the same for VCE? That way I can be more productive... I just wish I was motivated Yknow ? On thé plus side, m’y practice exam results have been rlly good?? idk guys wild. I have a spesh and French sac coming up, so I’ve been trying to study for them but it’s been hard. I’m thinking i should start fresh tomorrow and restart pomodoro.
Also: here are some answers to a few qs u guys asked me (ty for being so nice! I read ur journals and they’ve been rlly good but I’m yet to reply properly)
My hobbies include : reading, baking and teaching (I used to tutor kids and I generally love working with kids) and watching English tv shows that are French dubbed (I’m looking at u, gossip girl)

I definitely think bring some exercise into your daily routine could be helpful for regaining some of that motivation. It's a good idea to look at things like sleep, diet etc. as well. They don't fix everything but looking after your wellbeing a bit more can really help with self-discipline, motivation and concentration :)

What types of books do you like to read?

update!!
feeling like i should update, so here it is

chem
i have a sac on food chem this week!! so weird to think the content is technically done, for the entire year...idk how i feel about that honestly. i have rlly enjoyed this topic (very bio like) however i do feel the textbook qs are a little dodgey. ive spent the week studying for it so im hoping my work pays off. on another note: my chem teacher thinks i am rlly good at chem?? yeh what?? im honestly so surprised considering the amount of clever ppl at my school

methods
probabilty is done, one more topic to go. got my last sac back and i am quite pleased considering i thought i did horribly. been keeping up w hw which is good. these holidays i am rlly gonna focus on honing in on my methods technique, since for some reason i find it so much more harder than spesh ?? idk. have already started studying for the sac in 2 weeks which is good.

specialists
i am sooooo behind in this subject. but, got our recent sac back and im over the moon :) with spesh i dont mind doing all the hw in one day, which is what ill have to do. looking forward to that i guess lol. expecting to do heaps of practice exams for this subject...

english language
finished content! just been working on gathering examples to create a master google doc for the next sac. this aos (2nd of unit 4) is rlly broad, so i need a much larger range of examples in order to ensure i answer the essay sac properly. i actually find researching for this subject rlly fun, nice break from my maths-science subjects.

french
just prepping for oral exam, which is surprisingly close. been working on my grammar and pronunciation and the weekly mock oral exams ive been having. oddly chill.. considering the exam is so close ahahaaha, french is rlly confusing ngl

general
ty briMT for your advice! exercising has rlly helped and ive regained motivation. i schedule zoom calls w friends to make sure. i dont feel alone, which is making me much more productive. i also downloaded an extension for chrome called momentum, which gives me a greeting everytime i enter chrome and displays a todo list. i find it rlly helpful for keeping me on track during this draining period. im ngl, i am still tired all the time but it is more manageable and im trying to find a balance right now to ensure i dont burn out during the september break... considering my school is giving us around 50 exams per subject lol, since we finish content t3.  i am also chipping away at uni applications :)

hiii everyone
first of all, how crazy is it that school is ending in 5 days... i am in awe.
long time no see... how are you all? excited about school ending, or nervous?? personally i am so scared. i love my friends and im gonna miss them a lot...

chem
have done 2 in school practice exams, and a tonne of at home ones. i really want to do well in this subject, as it has been my best throughout the year. learning material exams however... are way too hard, i CANNOT do them lol. i review my flashcards frequently to make sure the content is in my head.

methods
finally seeing some progress!! i got my first A+ in an inschool exam! methods has always been something I've struggled with, but i think I'm finally getting the hang of it...

french
i did my oral last week, it went ok. examiners were super nice but some qs were bizarre. honestly no clue how to revise for the upcoming written exam, I'm thinking ill write a few paragraphs for each commonly assessed them, get it corrected and memorise?? I'm stumped, advice with this subject would be much appreciated. i got an a in the practice exam but idk i feel vv unprepared

english language
ok... i somehow did super well on my practice exam. i have NO CLUE how. i just do company/vcaa papers, and add to my notes, revise and repeat. clearly its been working. i am so glad past me put in a lot of time finding original examples, because its so much less stressful knowing all i need to do is ensure i memorise them. my examples are vv obscure, and i tend to use my Indian heritage as a scapegoat for ethnolects :). Advantages of being multicultural, i guess. I am still not confident with ac's as i personally struggle to find salient features in the texts.

specialists
the exam 2's are soo hard omg. i am trying so hard to get around an a..but damn,,, its so difficult. i guess i just need to practice more..

FINAL POST
hiii everyone! its been a while..

Lets start with results day. I was convinced I got an ATAR of 90 (which is good, but not good enough for med) so I was truly horrified. But I got in bw 98-99 (not revealing due to privacy)
:D i was genuinely so shocked!! but results day wasn't the worst of my fears..I was still horrified about med applications.

This morning, I woke up 9am.  I saw that I got an email from UAC but I didn't think too much of it as I forgot NSW offers came out today...

I got accepted into UNE's med program!!! Words cannot describe how happy I am. Med has been something I always dreamed about, but thats all its been, just a dream. Seeing the offer just confirmed that I can be a dr...

I'll be honest, my interview for this uni was a disaster, so i WAS NOT expecting this.

The other unis i applied to give out their offers jan 14th, but, in all honesty, i'm not that scared anymore. I DID IT!! All I wanted was one med offer, and I got it !!

Thanks everyone for your support. 2020 was a year like no other, so here's to 2021. wishing you all the best of luck w uni, and i hope you all get into the course of your dreams <3

OMG Nemo I am so happy for you!! Congratulations - enjoy living the dream. You worked hard this year, achieved an exceptional ATAR, and now you did it!

Quick question - you elected to do the JMP interview early compared to their suggested dates for interstate interviews right?

Anyways, enjoy your day!! Congrats once again :D
