So there's a new study design for Psych this year, which sucks :(
So, to try and help our 2017 class of Psych masterminds, I've compiled a list of relevant exam questions from the last six VCAA exams (going back to 2012).
A couple of things to note about this list:
- Some of the multiple-choice answers may contain an option (or in a couple of cases, two options) that are no longer on the study design, so don’t stress if there is an option listed that you don’t recognise. The correct answer will be on the current study design :)
- This list is simply compiled to the best of my knowledge and may not be 100% accurate. If you see a question on the list that you don’t think is on the study design, or vice versa, please let me know so we can edit the list
Firstly, there's a couple of full exams available for the current study design:
- VCAA 2017 Sample Exam (MC answers on last page, no short-answer answers released)
- Unit 3 Psych Exam - epsychvce
- Psychology Topic Tests – ATAR Notes (not full exams but is for current study design – Available here!
- Other companies whose exams cost money but your teacher may have access to include NEAP, Insight Education and STAV
VCAA 2016
Multiple-Choice:
1, 4, 6, 8, 10-17, 19-22, 24-27, 29, 32-34, 41-44, 46-49, 53, 55, 58, 61-63
Short-Answer:
1 (replace ‘social learning theory’ with observational learning), 4b,d,e, 5, 9, 11a, 14
Section C
1, 2, 3, 4 (best guide for extended-response question this year)
VCAA 2015
Multiple-Choice
2-6, 8, 9, 12, 15, 23, 25-28, 30-43, 47, 48, 57-65
Short-Answer
1, 2, 4, 5, 6a, 6c, 7, 10a, 10c, 12, 13a
Section C
1, 2, 3
VCAA 2014
Multiple-Choice
9, 11, 12, 16, 17, 19, 24, 25, 27, 29, 32, 33, 38, 39, 42, 45-47, 50-57, 59, 62
Short-Answer

1, 2, 3 (although note that the extended response question is more likely to be similar to the one in 2016, which included Psych content as well as research methods)

So would you advise that we do the papers in timed conditions still, or cross out the irrelevant questions and set a suitable time limit accordingly? (E.g. If the 2003 paper only had 4 relevant questions should we only give ourselves 11 minutes to do it?)

A great point - this is something I might look at adding to the post. I think you have to set out new, suitable time limits, as there's no point doing half an exam in a full exam time limit - you won't learn anything about your personal timing, how much you can write etc. To give you an idea, in the Psych exam this year you have to do 0.8 marks per minute, so it's probably best to work off that ratio. I would even suggest challenging yourself and giving yourself one minute per mark, if you're confident :)
