Six new QCE subjects on the cards!

With OPs being phased out for ATARs, QCAA has decided to introduce five new subjects this year, with the potential addition of a sixth next year.

The new subjects are:

-Design
-Engineering
-Food and Nutrition
-Literature
-Psychology

The other potential subject for 2020 is:

-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural studies

What are your thoughts? A lot of these subjects already exist interstate; psychology in particular is super popular around the country.
2013-15: BBiomed (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), UniMelb
2016-20: MD, UniMelb
2019-20: MPH, UniMelb
2021-: GDipBiostat, USyd

I’m really surprised to learn that they weren’t available before. Pretty much all of those subjects are excellent. I’m intrigued about Engineering though. Seems like quite a broad subject.
2018: ATAR: 99.35
Subjects
English: 44
Methods: 43
Further Maths: 50
Chemistry: 46
Legal: 40
2019: Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine @ Monash

If you're interested here's the HSC version.

I'll link this as well but I wouldn't have a clue if it were up to date

I agree with Lear. I don't go to a particularly big school in QLD (very small, actually), but for our year 11 subject choices this year they've added Design, in replacement of ITS. I don't know why QCAA wouldn't have Engineering and Psychology before the switch to ATAR.  ???  Both would be very interesting to me!

Here's a link I found for a complete list of subjects in the new syllabus https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/senior-subjects

QCE 2020:

The lack of languages in this list is really surprising. In Victoria and NSW there is an almost obscene number of languages you can study, often with only a handful of students studying the subject.

What subjects are popular in QLD though? Beyond your maths, English and sciences?

I agree - not enough languages. I'm rather disappointed that there is not Greek or Latin! They would have been interesting for me at least.

If you're referring to the new syllabus subjects, I can tell you that Legal studies and Design are very popular, but my year level may not be the best indicator of popularity for subjects because there's only about 15 students  :-\. Quite a few students were interested in Film, Television & New Media as well, but the school couldn't find a teacher apparently. I'm a little unsure about this, but I believe there's about 5 doing Drama as well. 2 other students are definitely doing the same subjects as me (subjects in signature) and possibly another new student. But, there's only 15 in my whole year level, so, yeah it may not be a very accurate indicator. ;)
