Further Maths Exam 2 2020
« on: November 16, 2020, 11:08:41 am »
I didn't see any threads for it this year, how did you guys do? I felt that the Core section was tougher/longer than usual, and I couldn't double check.

Yeah, it was longer than previous exams. Anyone know if that one question was interpolation or extrapolation? I’ve gotten both responses from people so I’m kinda freaking out

It was extrapolation... Unfortunately, I put interpolation though  :'(

It was extrapolating because there was no original data value at 65 :)

I know its hard to tell, although, if im ranked about 3 or 4 with a solid top end and got 40/40 and 59/60 on exam 1 and 2, respectfully, would that mean i can get a 48-49, even a 50?

Much appreciated

I reckon that'd definitely be possible - if your SACs scale to 100% then you've definitely got a shot at a 50!

Just to provide context, with a 39/40 for Exam 1 and 58/60 for Exam 2, I've been told that a ~46-48 is possible, so you should be on track for a ~48+.

Hi guys,
what did y'all do for the question where they gave two points and asked to use it to find the equation of the line?

you could get the gradient from the two points.
after that you can substitute one of the given points and solve to find the intercept

Hi guys I don't really know anything about how study scores work for further so I wanted to see if anyone else knew.
I got a 40/40 in exam 1 and I think I will get 58/60 in exam 2. I was in the top 5 of a strong cohort with around 100 people.
Could that get a 48 or 49?

It was extrapolating because there was no original data value at 65 :)

i thought i saw the value within the range, so i put interpolation :/
that sucks, i should have read the question properly. idk how i didnt see that

Hey there!
That definitely sounds possible! I guess there is a larger element of uncertainty with the way exams will be marked and scaled, but with your ranking and exam marks, I reckon you’ll definitely be able to get a 48-49, maybe even a 50.

I actually found it easier than the multiple choice despite not really doing much study for either  :P

Could you have also just used CAS to calculate the slope?
