After someone graduates with a degree or whatever...they register with a professional body like Engineers Australia or The Victorian Institute of teaching...what is the point of doing that?

Teachers *have* to be in the teaching one if they want to work as a teacher.

Apart from that, dont really know the point of them

I think its simply for qualification purposes.

You can study all you like, but you're no good without work experience. I believe professional accreditation makes you ready for a job in whatever sector, approved by official criteria, rather than a new graduate with tons of uni knowledge but no clue how its useful in the real world.

Exactly. University is a just a step to get the accreditation, without it, It'll be difficult, if not impossible to get employment.

For example, take the actuarial accreditation (Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia). To get the FIAA, one must complete the Part I, II, III and the Professionalism course . However, there is an an associate level (AIAA) when you pass Part 1 and 2 (Part 1 and 2 being University studies). Once you have completed AIAA, you may go into employment and work your way upto FIAA :D

So, regardless of what University you went to, if you don't get AIAA or FIAA accreditation, you will not get employed to a real full time position. :)

My mum is a CPA, apparently their exam is harder than the ones you get in uni. A rather high proportion of people fail it.

Strange way to bold "will" out of "will not."
