This subject is offered in Semester 2, 2008 to high achieving first year students who commenced their course in Semester 1, 2008. You must have completed no more than 50 points in Semester 1, 2008 and selection is based on your grade average achieved across these 50 points.

This subject will focus on Classical Political Economy and Classical Liberalism and the inter-play of political and economic ideas. The central figures of this school, Adam Smith, Thomas Robert Malthus, David Ricardo and Karl Marx, are studied with the purpose of uncovering their ideas and assessing their relevance for the modern world. You will be expected to read primary texts as well as secondary literature.

Applications for this subject will open in July after the release of Semester 1, 2008 results. Information on how to apply will be available at http://www.ecom.unimelb.edu.au/experience/ closer to this time.
