I'm in year 12 now in NSW so I'm not sure if this is different in VIC. All I can say is try not to fall behind, especially if you do not engage in class. Economics is a hard cramming subject, there are a lot of fundamentals to learn before you can move on to the next topics, they are all somewhat interconnected(in the HSC at least). Try to start off with a clean slate, keeping up with everything your teacher says in class, revising it the same day at home and maybe even reading ahead. Also, practice essays help more than you think, my knowledge about the subject was sound but my essay writing was what brought me down in the end as I did not practice structure, language etc. enough.

1. Understand the concepts
2. Understand the cause and effect scenarios.
3. Know definitions
4. Know how to answer different types of questions <== Understand what the question is asking for.

Hope this helps :)
