Hey,
What type of singing are you interested in? Here’s a bunch of courses that may be good:

UNSW: I’m doing a bachelor of music at UNSW which is a 4-year degree. In the course, you do units on music theory, history and performance. You are able to major in performance from the 2nd year if you get high enough marks.

To get into the course you need to do an online musicianship test which was 30 minutes long and had 40 multiple choice questions on areas such as clefs, notes, scales, triads, chords, score reading and general knowledge. Once I passed the test, I then had to do an online audition which was due at the end of November. This included two contrasting pieces, a reference, music resume, short essay and an unaccompanied short song.

There’s a bit more info https://www.arts.unsw.edu.au/future-students/undergraduate/degrees/bachelor-of-music/, and https://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2019/3436. Feel free to ask me any questions about this course :).

University of Sydney (the Con): The conservatorium runs a bachelor of music, which goes for 3 years. I think it is very competitive to get into though, and would possibly have more of a classical focus. Theres a bit more info here: https://sydney.edu.au/courses/courses/uc/bachelor-of-music.html
If you have any questions about the Con angewina is currently studying there.

University of Wollongong: Bachelor of Creative Arts (Music) which goes for 3 years. One of my friends has just started this course and so far they are going through production, performance and a creative art core subject (that everything doing a Bachelor of Creative Arts is doing). There’s a bit more info here https://coursefinder.uow.edu.au/information/index.html?course=bachelor-creative-arts-music.

Western Sydney Uni: Bachelor of Music (3 years), I don’t know a huge amount about this course but you could check https://www.westernsydney.edu.au/future/study/courses/undergraduate/bachelor-of-music.html or http://handbook.westernsydney.edu.au/hbook/course.aspx?course=1659.4.

AIM (Australian Institute of Music): This is near Central, and they run a bachelor of contemporary music, and bachelor of performance which both go for 3 years. There a bit more info https://www.aim.edu.au/programs/undergraduate/bachelor-of-music-contemporary and https://www.aim.edu.au/programs/undergraduate/bachelor-of-performance.

Hope this helps!!  :D

I can't 100% tell you which course what be more suited to you (especially because the only course I know very well is UNSW's). It's probably best to research the courses and ask your teachers/careers advisors. You could also go to one of the careers expos later on in the year and ask questions there. :)

Hey thanks again for the help!
I saw this reply and ummm.... I can talk to my careers advisor as I have before but the thing is that my music teacher / head of CAPA teacher is bias towards me because of me joining the school at the start of year 11. Would you know anyone I could talk to on ATARnotes or any hotlines that might help? My careers adviser wants me to check with my music teacher but thats just gonna demotivate me because she always has something to nag on about me.

sorry for bothering you BTW! I feel like I may be talking too much lol:)

Hey,
On AN, there's only 2 people who are doing a music degree. You can ask me any questions about music at UNSW, and angewina is also studying music/education at the Con.

There's no one hotline but you could possibly look at the different hotlines for each uni and ask questions:

UNSW: Future students phone number is 1300 864 679, and you can ask questions here https://www.futurestudents.unsw.edu.au/. Also the school of the arts and media (which music is under) phone number is Phone Number: +61 2 9385 4856.

Con: For prospective students the phone number is 1800 793 864 and you can ask online here https://sydneystudent.sydney.edu.au/sitsvision/wrd/siw_ipp_lgn.login?process=siw_ipp_enq&code1=EQQST&code2=&code4=IPR_FSTC=0

University of Wollongong: For future students the phone number is 1300 367 869, and their email is [email protected].

Western Sydney Uni: Their phone number is 1300 897 669.

AIM Their phone number is 02 9219 5444 and their email is [email protected]

I think there may possibly be a few other courses/institutaions but I don't know too much about them. You can always search online if you want to find some more.

Hope this helps   :)
