GTAC is cool. It's a centre that specialises in DNA. It's attached to Uni High and near Melbourne Uni. They have heaps of really cool equipment and you spend the day in small groups working with a scientist who specialises in genetics. I really enjoyed it! ;D

Oh really? That's so cool and so close by too!

Yeah, I went to GTAC last year and we did the same thing. Even though I'm not too interested in genetics or DNA as a career, it was really interesting!

I was stressing out on Sunday because I was writing notes for all of Bio Unit 1 and everything I know from Unit 2 (lol not much) for a friend who wants to do 3/4 next year without tutoring and is aiming for a pretty high raw score.

I didn't get tutoring for any of my subjects and I got 47 raw in bio - it's definitely possible to do well without having that advantage :)
(I also didn't stress out and do a bunch of studying for bio. I did a bit of prep but I definitely also had a holiday)

Just thought I'd let you know so you can maybe pass onto your friends and reduce their stress a bit :)

Also 4 hours definitely isn't enough sleep and is very likely to be undermining your ability to learn and remember. I did a bunch of extra curriculars (played saxophone (was in the senior school band), school leadership, youth council, scouts... ) and there was only one day in year 12 where I stayed up past 10pm studying. Please don't undermine your sleep for your academics, it's often counter productive & I don't want you to have to keep dealing with all of the negative consequences of sleep deprivation.

Really? I wish my school would've taken us but then again I can't complain with all the excursions we've had so far

Thank you for the advice! I let my friend know :))

I guess that's true
I don't have 4 hours every day of the week but unfortunately that's how much I usually end up with as I began a bad habit
Although, I have a friend who pulls a few days off without any sleep because she feels "more refreshed" but obviously it doesn't work for everyone and I think I should really focus on my inadequate sleep issue

Thanks for all the advice!

Extremely late response (so sorry) but yeah. Our school is weird as in we only get a Maths exam once a year + exam on Biology (and possibly any other VCE subject although I'm not sure.

The Bio one, which was fairly recent, was alright. I wasn't satisfied because I assure you, I gave in 0% effort. I only did four questions of the practice exam untimed and didn't bother checking I was correct. Honestly, for the real exam, I was aiming for a 30%. I skipped the whole last page because I couldn't be bothered. Somehow, I got a lot lot higher than I anticipated

Anyways, how was your exam

2019年12月10日火曜日 - Update

So, it's been a while since my last update (and by that, I mean almost a WHOLE MONTH). I think last few weeks were quite busy and all in all everyone was stressed.

I've only had good news lately. I got my two 3/4's and all the subjects I asked for. There are people I like in all of my classes. I also got to switch out of Bio 3/4 for Revs successfully!

The last week was when we had our VCE orientation days and camp (which I missed out on since I was sick). I snuck into my friend's Philo 1/2 class and ngl, looks like heaps of fun. Lit also seemed like a lot of fun and Revs was, by far, the most interesting. The only subject I am not looking forward to is Chem, even though it's the only class I share with my best friend. We had to do a prac for our Orientation (and if you know me, you know that pracs and I aren't the best of friends). But hey, at least my friends and I got to eat some pho after.

We also got our lockers and I think my class got the worst ones! They're so small it's hard to chuck stuff in there.

Anyways, that's it for my short update.

Macrob Fun Fact: There is a Netflix film or series or somethn which will be filmed at our school!

ALSO FOR EVERYONE WHO'S FINISHED YEAR 12: Congrats on finishing VCE and well, high school! GOOD LUCK FOR THE RESULTS ON THURSDAY!!!

Love reading your journal! (Especially the fun facts :P) What do you like the most about Revs so far? Chem is like a rollercoaster, sometimes it's really good and sometimes it pretty boring for 1/2. You are going to have so much fun in Revs, many of my friends loved that subject ;D

Wow, I haven't even started chem but I can already imagine it, it's like sometimes I like it but sometimes I just want the class to end asap

Aww thank you! Revs has already been so interesting
I've finished reading the French Rev textbook, now I'm just going over the sections in depth and memorizing things

Yup, sure is
People have been taking photos with the set changes in the school (by that I mean some things got painted over or somethn temporarily like a board showing the direction to the entrance) and posting it all over their insta stories

2020年2月3日月曜日 - Update

Wow, it's already one week into Year 11. It's nice having a good set of friends in every class

I like all my subjects so far and I'm starting to like chem again (maybe?). Methods is still obviously my favorite subject which is followed by Japanese. I haven't had a spesh class yet so I'm just waiting for that

I love the free periods in Year 11. I literally used my free period to go to Philo with my friend and the teacher is so sweet. She literally let me join the Google Classroom.

For chem, today the teacher went on about some shit that went in one ear and out the other; or so I thought. I had absolutely know idea what she was talking about. After the handed out the worksheets, my friend started zooming through it somehow. It was only once I looked at the worksheet that I realized that I understood everything she had explained? Somehow, I managed to fill up the whole sheet...somehow.

Aside from these good things, my class was granted the shittiest lockers in the school (which we obviously didn't ask for). Not only are they placed in the most crowded location in the entire school but also we got the brand new tiny lockers. I barely brought anything but my locker is already full? (well tbf, I don't have a good history when it comes to organizing my locker as 99% of the stuff I lose magically appears in my locker)

I've been getting my organized by using my school diary for once to record all of my homework (I have a shit ton of it oh god). To be honest, the only reason why I decided to use it was because the school actually bothered to make the front cover aesthetic by letting the students designing it and picking the best art. I've been able to consistently use my diary because I don't write in it in English. It's so much more fun and worthwhile writing in another language

Anyways, that's all for now. I don't know if I will be able to survive this year but oh well, fingers crossed lol

Macrob Fun Fact: The school introduced three more classes for the Year 9s (meaning they will take 3 classroom's worth of students in). In order to cater for the great number of students being accepted into the school, a bunch of lockers had to be moved and the locker bays became classrooms. We have too many year nines this year yikes.

I like where this is going ;D. Become one with Chemistry and who knows it might become your favourite subject🤣
Trust me, if you don't like 1/2 Chem you will definitely like 3/4.

I love the free periods in Year 11.
Who doesn't love the good old free periods? (Especially when you have them at times you can eat before the lunch rush or leave early). The true beauty of being in Year 11 is the luxury of free periods.

A little tip for Chem (applies to all subjects but I find best works for Chem) is the night before to read your textbook out loud on the section you will cover in class and have a small sticky note of all the main key terms (and any questions). Then go to class as normal and make sure that every word you wrote on the sticky note is covered (and also see how your interpretation of the word differs from each person). It helps to understand the content better and shifts you away from memorising it on the spot? Chem is definitely one of those subjects where sometimes things make sense and sometimes the concepts are seriously just going through your head.😂

Aside from these good things, my class was granted the shittiest lockers in the school (which we obviously didn't ask for). Not only are they placed in the most crowded location in the entire school but also we got the brand new tiny lockers.
This is an absolute nightmare. I feel for you on a spiritual level here and I hope you get through the year with these lockers! (Do you have a top or bottom locker?)

I barely brought anything but my locker is already full? (well tbf, I don't have a good history when it comes to organizing my locker as 99% of the stuff I lose magically appears in my locker)
I'm in this photo and I don't like it🤣. Same though, everything that goes into my locker usually never comes out.

Macrob Fun Fact: The school introduced three more classes for the Year 9s (meaning they will take 3 classroom's worth of students in). In order to cater for the great number of students being accepted into the school, a bunch of lockers had to be moved and the locker bays became classrooms. There goes the lockers once again. Seriously, the amount of Yr 9 students is ridiculous this year!

I'm really looking forward to seeing more updates soon Chopsticks! Sounds like you have a massive adventure this year and you will, of course, survive 2020. ;D

Plus, they LOST THE LOCKERS. Somehow the school lost 40 lockers, so half of my class (not me!) and all of 9J had to put their bags in a class room lol. Now they are just trying to work out where the hell to put them.
