Something spectacular happened yesterday...

(Image removed from quote.)

I got a straight HD score for an essay. It's never happened before, and I'm super stoked. Definitely one of my most proud achievements, it really motivates me to study more.

In case anyone's interested in gender studies - I've attached the essay too. Happy days! I can't believe it!

CONGRATS!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Definitely going to read that essay.

Yeah! The grey triangles are the cohort's average. This is the highest cohort average I've noticed for a while, actually. If my tutorial was any representation of the wider cohort, then I'm not surprised. Everyone was very involved and passionate with the topics in class, which is super cool, it made for a great learning environment.

Congrats, Elyse! You've worked so hard this semester, you deserve it. :)

Thanks Coffee :) I appreciate it :)

Part of the essay explores the American/Afghani situation and how women come into discussion there (spoiler: they're only a periphery interest). I really enjoyed a reading Do Muslim Women Need Saving, and it's a book published in 2013. It's easy to read and promotes a lot of very rich discussion about giving voices to the people that others claim to "save" - so if that tickles anyone's fancy I think it's worth a read, I learned a lot. I'm about to finish the last chapter as leisurely reading because I enjoyed it so much.

Abu-Lughod, L, 2013, Do Muslim Women Need Saving? Harvard University Press, USA.

Week 2 of my final year ahhhhh!

This semester I'm studying:

Communicating Differences (Core Communications)
Digging Deeper (Audio and Visual current affairs and news Journalism)
The Hive (collaborative Journalism)

Doing two Journos at once is definitely not ideal. There's a lot of deadline overlap and it's all a bit intense for about two weeks at a time, and then a break. If I didn't go on exchange they'd be at different times. yoloooooo

So far so good though. I've had two workshops in the tech labs learning audio technology and techniques. It's genuinely really hands on, very practical, and I can tell I'll be really happy I learned it.

Oh wow, final year already (I guess I've been living under a rock xD)?! My sister's in the same position as you- it's her final year of uni as well.

And your units (is what they call it in uni ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) sound really interesting! I remember doing Media Studies as an elective in Year 10 and it was so interesting going through the different media theories- our reality TV was the best part because everyone loves trash TV lol

Good luck in your final year :D

EXCITING NEWS
In a big effort to give myself more time to do tasks I care about better, ESPECIALLY uni...

I have resigned from Woolworths.

My career lasted a solid six years and one month. I have given three weeks notice of my departure and now have 4 shifts left (I think?)

I love studying. Genuinely, I love studying. I do every single required reading, I never miss optional lectures. But I can't give my all at the moment because I'm juggling too much. So the time to leave Woolworths has come.

I hope this gives me the extra time I want to put 100% into everything instead of a balance shifting between 50%-80%. I feel really positive. Yay final year!

Feel free to share some wisdom on how to get into this groove haha. I love my degree and find it interesting but I struggle so much with studying and keeping up to date.

Actually, I used to force myself on the train into uni (long train ride) to do the readings then as a way of getting my mind into it. But then I started setting aside specific time on a Sunday to go to a cafe and do the readings, and then I really looked forward to it. I always went to a quiet cafe with funky spoons (a real hit on my instagram story lol) and it was an hour or two of getting shit done, but also a time for just me.

If you're like me and struggle to actually sit and do one task at a time, instead of doing things in little pockets of time between other tasks, then this might be helpful for you :)
