Title: Help with Unit 3 Algorithmics before we start Unit 4
Post by: JamesHibbleHimself on June 21, 2017, 09:45:17 am
Hello all this is my first post here!

I've done quite poorly with this semester of Algorithmics. I'm completing the subject by distance education due to this i'm struggling to keep up with the weekly work and understanding the Alexandria Repository on my own. Is there somewhere i should be looking that is a great source of notes to help me revise and understand the work. If not does anybody have any advice on how i should be writing my notes and getting the information from.

Thanks  :)

James - I think you are awesome in the sense that you are taking a difficult subject such as Algorithmics.

For your information - Algorithmics is the equivalent of a 1st/2nd year computer science unit at university... so if you're feeling a bit overwhelmed, this may be why! It's definitely up there with the difficult subjects in the VCE.

Given this subject is relatively new (first year in 2015), there isn't many resources available. I think the Alexandria Repository is organised personally, with videos and so on... but you definitely should be given plenty of opportunities to practice the algorithms (e.g. through Edgy, Python etc).

Also, there are only 12 schools statewide that offer Algorithmics... so naturally there won't be as much support as another mainstream subject such as English or Further Maths.

Have you raised this with your Dist Ed teacher?

Alternatively - there is nothing stopping you from looking around to find out more about algorithmics. There are a ton of resources on each individual component: e.g. Big O, Dijkstra's algorithm and so on. You just need to start looking :)
